    I'll use it to learn more easily. I'm an old guy, and the tiny pieces are hard to hold and get in the right place, so doing it with a mouse will make it much easier to learn and do!

    I used to teach the BASIC STAMP along with the BOEBOT in college, but that was 2000 - 2013. I began learning C++ programming, but fell out of it due to an extensive hospital stay.
    I am currently going through the ARDUINO lessons included in the parts kit. This will make it much easier to learn and possibly a bit more fun as I don't have to pull everything out to work.

    Played with this thing all day. Found it very informative and addictive. I played with the only one Optocoupler circuit that was listed. I wish we could contribute new parts to it.

    I just found this video. The main purpose why I need a simulator is to test code modifications without upload to the physical board 1000 times. I hope it will meet my expectations.

    When I was just starting out I used the tinkercad code block for programming. From there I was able to tweak it and make it work for my needs.

    Hello! Really nice video! Thank you! I noticed that when the simulation runs, the usb is connected to Arduino. When it stops, the usb is disconnected from the board. Much easier to visualize when the simulation is running. Thanks!

      Cant afford hardware? Order arduinos from AliExpress for a single dollar (pro mini) or 3 (nano) or 5 (uno 3 leo). Affordability is what makes arduino SO great!

      ​@@GyroGearlooseHelis the shipping expenses are outrageous. the cheapest we can buy here are about 5 bucks and no Leo or nano. And that doesn't even include the shipping fee.
      I'd rather buy a data package for 1 dollar to run tinkercad and the rest of my money for me and my moms' food and other expenses.

    Thanks for this information! I'll be checking this out, since acquiring an arduino and every bit of hardware needed to tinker a bit and learn the basics is very expensive right now in my country and so, to order a component you must be almost 100% sure you can capitalize your build and be already sure about what you'll make and whatnot, which defeats the purpose to those of us who just want to learn a new skill and tinker a bit. I had no idea such a thing existed -I was already resigned to the fact Arduino was just unattainable for me-. I'll be trying it right now! And perhaps some day I can physically build my designs. Thanks!

    Hey, an update for Arduino Simulators: (also free) Wokwi. ThinkerCad didn't had the OLED display that I physically have. There are no docs how to create one component with ThinkerCad. Nor import external library. Woki was pretty easy to use. Click + and add the component (several and you can create your own), wire it up, code, play. Also, has Serial output. I've read few docs about how to create devices I2C, and teak the code from uint_8 to uint_32 just for fun learning.

      Got me thinking how this works. If its client side processing or needs to call the server. Client side could be ported as a web app that can be basically downloaded and run from any device that can process web code.

      Too bad it's only on line. A downloadable version would be better. The library are missing components I use a lot, too. e.g. 16x4 LCD display.

    For a simple routine check or a test circuit i often use simulators, but for real projects i'm still relying on my breadboard mostly because the simulator is struggling with custom libraries

    I have a question, | did the basic hello world blink led and I changed the resistor to 1ohm to see what would happen.

    Thanks for making this video! I'm getting deeper into arduino and this helps allot! Either I missed it, and I've looked allot, or I'm not getting it yet, but how do you "save as" a circuit that you either build from scratch or one that they have and you have modified? Thanks!

      That is kind of a tricky one! Great question.
      When you are looking at the designs from the dashboard (the different designs are laid out like icons), they have a gear in the corner of each design that gives you a drop down. One of the options is duplicate, which I think is as close to "save as" that they have right now.

      Hi, Thanks for answering! You've put me on the right track. I've learned through experimenting that the "system" appears to save your project automatically.
      I tried making a simple circuit, simulated it and then closed the program. Upon restarting the program, and going into 'circuits' on the left side of the page, it brought up what I just made. Mousing over each project shown, is when that gear shows up. In that drop down list, there is the 'properties' selection. This is where you can rename it as well as edit other stuff about it. Cool! I'm probably telling you something you already know, but this is how I found that it works.
      Kind of a round about way of doing it, but it works fine!
      I guess I'm too used to creating circuits in windows based programs and expected the same method in this one.
      I see a small amount of IC's available. Is there a way to add more to the selection of our choosing or are we limited to this amount?
      So now on to creating!

      @@cinibar I don't think there is currently anyway to add components like ICs, this is one of the limits of the system right now. Not sure of that will change or not.

    Also free and also very good is SimulIDE. It works as a simulator for Arduino as well as Atmel microcontrollers. Perhaps for a future video you might consider comparing TinkerCad and SimulIDE ?

      Hey John - I thought the exact same thing too; in fact, I interviewed a guy at TinkerCad for our podcast some time ago, and I had no idea they did the circuits part until he told me, and I was blown away. The IDE you use with TinkerCad is pretty similar to the Arduino, with the bonus of having a debugger built in.

    Thanks even if the video is quite long for not so much information. The most important missing things (for my point of view): is there a way to debug the code? I mean put break points, run step by step, seeing the register/memory values, etc. I know that Atmel Studio do it, but it's quite complicated as it's for the chip itself, not for Arduino boards.

      There is a debugger for stepping through code, though I am not sure how full featured it is.

    Please forgive me if this has already been already answered is there any way to download other sensors like a 3 pin IR obstacle avoidance modules. This would work great and save a lot of time if they have these for download. 😁

      Hey Lenny - I don't think it has that ability yet - so it is definitely one of the limits of the platform at this point.

    Nice introduction to Tinkercad. Could you explain how to simulate outside conditions like light on light sensor or distance on distance sensor? Because I didn't see some simulator that is able to do that yet.

      In many instances, the easiest way to simulate missing items is to simulate them with their electrical equivalents. The equivalent to a photocell (LDR) would be to substitute a potentiometer as that is electrically equivalent. That isn’t always possible with more sophisticated sensors or modules, but it does significantly expand your options to simulate missing components since many are either on/off, serial data, or analog signals.

    These guys never make a mistake. The Blink example worked first time. The gallery is full of working examples. What I'd really like to see is that Blink example where the presenter "forgets" to wire in the resistor. Or puts the LED in backwards. What does the simulator do then?? Is this truly a simulator - a design tool - or is it just an illustration tool?

    The best, you can create classrooms and students and teacher accounts. And text code and block code. And export it to ARDUINO IDE. But I would prefer Tinkercad will soon connect directly to ARDUINO and integrate more shields.

      And you can setup projects fir students to mixe or reply. And have courses about ARDUINO and even integrate ARDUINO to 3D print projects (not simulator yet).

    It might ve a stupid question if I missed some info, but how did you select the 220 ohm resistor if you didn't have any data for the led itself?

      Great question! I think if you click the resistor image, it brings up a window to adjust the resistance.

      @@programmingelectronics that one I spoted, I was actually wondering why you set it as a 220 ohm resistor? I did not notice there is any power supply or LED data, and the resistance should depend on source voltage, LED voltage drop and LED current. Can you see the correct data for components in tinkerpad, or do you just set the resistance to real world needs and the simulation just works whatever you put in?

      Great question @@filips989! I see what you mean now. You're right, 220Ohm is kind of a sloppy resistance value but usually seems to do the job. I think the sim will adjust accordingly for different component values.

      It's a great way to get your feet wet with about 0 commitment. Though, I must admit, watching the actual hardware do it's thing is far more enjoyable.

      Programming Electronics Academy yes, exactly. I am trying to decide which kit to buy myself. Also, I live in SE Asia and there are kits galore. Some of them, I have learned, may have some issue with USB port on a Mac unless they are the genuine Arduino kit. Not sure if you know of that and could advise about that. Thanks for the reply and now am going to subscribe to your channel.

      Hey Bruce - I primarily use mac as well. I haven't personally had any issue yet with different Arduino clones, but I know anecdotally where others have to download different drivers to get the device to show up in the Arduino IDE. Popular kits in the states come from elegoo and seeed studio, and I have had luck with their Arduino UNO clones.
      As a side note, it also doesn't hurt to have a genuine Arduino UNO, as it is pretty much guaranteed to work with the Arduino IDE off the shelf. Just my 2 cents - best of luck in your endeavors!

      Programming Electronics Academy thanks for confirming what I heard about the USB drivers. I will be using my old, reliable Mac Air. Great advice to get the UNO. I will look it up here - they’re pretty cheap kits in Asia with many, many different flavors. Best regards!

    I have tried it but when we have to use tools like Bluetooth it does not work in simulator.
    Eg I want to control Arduino with Android.But I can't use tinkercad as it does not do anything like connecting it with laptop Bluetooth so that we can try to connect it with Arduino

    I'm looking for simulator where I can load hex and use virtual serial port. Tinkercad does not provide any of this

    I think tinkercad is awesome since I retired that’s all I do is make stuff using both designs and circuits .
