This is an interesting video. Pretty interesting to watch, although, I must say, I'm more impressed by Brandao's tone. They both sound ridiculously great, but Brandao's tone is so rich, and thick, and controlled, and his legato phrases just sound smoother (IMHO). Cool upload, regardless.
There’s also that difference between the American voice and the German voice that you may be hearing! I also hear much more control in the teacher’s sound
It's so weird when I hear only the trumpet play the waltz in the second part of the video, because i hear the other voices in the orchestra in my head like the flute and the english horn in the background even though they're not there, because I've heard it so many times
Ismael Brandão, the student in the video, has a channel (of course, UA-cam won't allow me to post a link...),. It includes a few videos, one of the extremely difficult finale to John Williams (composer of music for Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, and many other films as well as several concerti) extremely difficult trumpet concerto. Worth checking out! Just search for 'em.
You gotta love Brandao -- master himself -- getting critiqued. The ego of guys at this level -- well, "forgetabout it" . It would be interesting to reverse roles on a different piece, and have Brandao critique
Wow. What are you even talking about? Brandao comes to Gabor to be TEACHED and get a wider view of how it could be played. Gabor even said "it's perfect, your can play in any orchestra but I personally play it a little different. But it's perfect" There's not only one correct way to play it. Brandao play it very good and so do Gabor. What a stupid comment u do. Nothing is totally perfect and Gabor would defenitely critique himself aswell.
As someone going to school with Ismael, I can tell you the guy is genuine as it gets. He's willing to help anyone looking for advice, and enjoys trying to improve through the advice of others.

+jubjub594 Yea, what have that to do with my comment? Brandao still met Gabor to be TEACHED and if Gabor just say "It's perfect, you can go home" he would be a ridiculous bad teacher.
Dont look so sad, you played BEAUTIFULLY.
Great Mentor, he critiques with class and respect .
His last run through was much more relaxed and musical . It sang
Great playing by the student. He rushes everything though. Especially in the Mahler 5 video. Then again, he's under a ton of pressure.
I swearb i have seen this viodeo way too much times .. i just love it
They both have the same chops
The devil is all in the details.
Gabor is a great teacher as well which isn’t always the case with great players
You are right, I had the chance to take a class with him last February in Granada and it was so productive. Great artist and great teacher.
Love the difference in tones lmao. Gabor just has this depth in his tones, they're just so much richer and full. Love your playing man!
Years and years of difference. Very common when comparing a pro to a student.
Crazy isn't it. Although the student is great, there's a clear difference in the tone. Just sounds perfect.
True. But also remember student is using a C piston trumpet and teacher is using rotary
He had an excellent performance, congratulations Ismael. God continue blessing you and your future!
I love coming back to this video over and over... Love this lesson!
É DO BRASILLLLLLLL...BRAVO ISMAEL !!!!....DEUS CONTINUE LHE ABENÇOANDO!
Most interesting is that you can really tell the difference between rotary and piston valves.
The musicians are working on The Ballerina's Solo from Stravinsky's Petrouchka.
I like the respnse and the overall sound of the rotary trumpet.
Brandao is a great player and became a greater player after this master class. Bravo Brandao!

+WOOT Could also be the different trumpets you're hearing. Rotary valve trumpets are quite different from piston trumpets in construction/feel/sound.

He play really good, the student i mean...great job; i enjoyed the video.
3:52 Look at the trumpet!
Amazing Master class btw.
We're glad you enjoyed this Master Class!
My 16 month son is obseesed with watching this, and he tries to do the arm motions with the man. Too funny!

Gabor articulation is sooo good
Totally awesome, both guys!
He's playing a rotory valve C trumpet
Bravo, really enjoyed this!
LowReedExpert1 the keys are called vienna keys, for help with intonation.
An element of that difference in tone may be related to the difference between a german and a french style trumpet
I had that idea but go to his Mahler 5 video and look at 12 min he plays Brandos trumpet
this is a wonderful master class.
Thank you for watching, we're glad you enjoyed the Master Class.
he is blessed. make him learn piano with 2 years and with 6 the trumpet
Holy wow. Can we do Leonore 3 now...
Gabor has such a fat beautiful tone........feel that POWER!
Now play it in one breath :-D
Back in middle school the "teacher" expected us to go 4 measures in one breath.
@@ocularzombie6679 ummm as a trumpet player i don't think that's too much to ask, even if you're playing at a slow bpm
@@volkar8422 well when you're holding whole notes the whole time it can get strenuous, not to mention I was a middle schooler.
@@ocularzombie6679 ah that makes sense lmao
or is that a rotary cornet? The player may just have a very deep sound

Amazing
Does anyone know/recognize which mic is being used to record this session?
지렸다
What is the song called that they are playing?
bravo!!!
1:22 (for my personal reference)
Where have all the COMMENTS gone?

The Little Waltz from Petrouchka.
bravo jeune homme il n'y a pas grand chose à dire car ce solo anodin fait peur à beaucoup de trompettistes meme les plus chevronnés
What kind of trumpet is he playing
Are those register vents on the rotary trumpet?!
No, those extra claps can help you hit difficult notes. If you open a little hole it prevents the other notes around the note to being played
What instrument is the instructor playing?
Yamaha 4 ysl
Schagerl Berlin
4:22 😮😮😮❤
What is the second excerpt's name?
+Ryan Sowell It is the same, petrushka, but it is the Waltz-part of the petrushka
how beautiful

+magiking96 which is what I just said.
A rotary trumpet.
Your playing is fine, you don't need any help!
Fella needs to play with rhythm.
Who else is auditing for Phantom with this piece??,,
When people say Gabor is bad they sounds so stupid
by far my least favorite excerpt to play
