    Great playing by the student. He rushes everything though. Especially in the Mahler 5 video. Then again, he's under a ton of pressure.

    They both have the same chops
    The devil is all in the details.
    Gabor is a great teacher as well which isn’t always the case with great players

      You are right, I had the chance to take a class with him last February in Granada and it was so productive. Great artist and great teacher.

    Love the difference in tones lmao. Gabor just has this depth in his tones, they're just so much richer and full. Love your playing man!

      Crazy isn't it. Although the student is great, there's a clear difference in the tone. Just sounds perfect.

    Most interesting is that you can really tell the difference between rotary and piston valves.

    This is an interesting video. Pretty interesting to watch, although, I must say, I'm more impressed by Brandao's tone. They both sound ridiculously great, but Brandao's tone is so rich, and thick, and controlled, and his legato phrases just sound smoother (IMHO). Cool upload, regardless.

      +WOOT Could also be the different trumpets you're hearing. Rotary valve trumpets are quite different from piston trumpets in construction/feel/sound.

    It's so weird when I hear only the trumpet play the waltz in the second part of the video, because i hear the other voices in the orchestra in my head like the flute and the english horn in the background even though they're not there, because I've heard it so many times

    Ismael Brandão, the student in the video, has a channel (of course, UA-cam won't allow me to post a link...),. It includes a few videos, one of the extremely difficult finale to John Williams (composer of music for Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, and many other films as well as several concerti) extremely difficult trumpet concerto.
    Worth checking out! Just search for 'em.

      No, those extra claps can help you hit difficult notes. If you open a little hole it prevents the other notes around the note to being played

    You gotta love Brandao -- master himself -- getting critiqued. The ego of guys at this level -- well, "forgetabout it" . It would be interesting to reverse roles on a different piece, and have Brandao critique

    • @magiking96
      @magiking96 9 років тому +9

      Wow. What are you even talking about? Brandao comes to Gabor to be TEACHED and get a wider view of how it could be played. Gabor even said "it's perfect, your can play in any orchestra but I personally play it a little different. But it's perfect" There's not only one correct way to play it. Brandao play it very good and so do Gabor. What a stupid comment u do. Nothing is totally perfect and Gabor would defenitely critique himself aswell.
