Eternal thanks to Zev for putting out the Ahmad Jamal "Emerald City Nights" set. My college friend - Steve Feldman - introduced me to Ahmad Jamal with "Live at the Alhambra" in 1971; and I've been listening to his albums since then.
What a great interview. This is the best video on vinyl and the business of bringing a project to market that I have heard.
Thank you Mazzy and Zev. I can't get enough of these stories!
Zev is a hero. So many great releases. Some Other Time is one of Evan’s absolute best recordings.
I am so excited about these Jamal releases. Great interview Mazzy.
This is an AWESOME video Mazzy - thanks so much.
Excellent video keep doing these videos and you're going to be top of the Heap
Thanks for the update .
A very, very interesting conversation Mazzy - thanks!
I was lucky enough to discover Zev Feldman and his great work way back when he/they made the Bill Evans "Top Of The Gate", which he mentions.
That concert was recorded by George Klabin and mixed on the fly while he recorded it (in 1968). Broadcasted one time for his University's radio - and then the tapes were saved for almost 45 years until it was released (first as a 3 x 45 rpm LP box and later as 2 x 33 rpm gatefold).
I still have one extra if you need one 🙂
Amen, Zev! Always do what you love! Life is SO much better when you do!
Thanks for this one Mazzy!❤
Very cool, great talk guys :)
Thank you, Zev Feldman, for the amazing work you do. I just want to mention a project you were involved in for Elemental that didn’t come up in this discussion - New York Concerts: The Jimmy Giuffre 3 & 4. Very special!
Thanks for this one The Jazz Detective was great. Zev and Resonance Records are really putting out great stuff Particularly those recordings from The Penthouse club in Seattle, Coltrane and Ahmad Jamal
Mazzy you’re doing a great service here
Your videos are much more in depth than a magazine article or even the occasional NPR spot of what 7 minutes Thanks a lot
Molto GRAZIE!!
Releases from Walter Bishop, Sonny Stitt, Shirley Scott, 2 Bill Evans and a third Ahmad Jamal........roll on 2023. Zev is just a great force in jazz music. Great interview
Wow! So much to look forward to!
Anything by sister Rosetta is an instant buy for me!
As soon as Zev said they discovered a few more of the Nat King Cole 10 album releases I paused and just ordered it.
Thanks Mazzy and Zev for this video.
Love you guys.
Ah Zev you have SO raised the "bar" of record making. I have Bill Evans Morning Glory, Inner Spirit and Live at Ronnie Scotts. Such a delight. And so great that you respect and reward those that were behind the recording. Thanks Mazzy for exposing us to this man and his work. So exciting.
Really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing, man. Fun stuff.
GREAT VIDEO
Mas.... I have a live recording of "A Love Supreme" in Paris, 1965... Very good sound... And in French....
Have you bill Evans album the banjo in America
Great vid , nicely done!
ahhhhhh ..... i wish i was live with it to ask ZEV : when is the DON SCHLITTEN book coming out ?! ....... cool to have you 2 talk ..........
Hi Norman
Can you only purchase the Ahmed jamal records on record store day?
I ask this because .
I live in the UK 🇬🇧 so buying jazz records is very expensive from overseas.
Do you know if these will be available on Amazon.
Thanks Gordon
Soul Brother Records in London have both in stock on CD and LP. As Mazzy writes, these are RSD releases and so only available through independent record shops.
Nice to have Zav on the channel. If you have him on again, could you ask him about the BN Francis Wolff, photo / prints. You could buy them up until about last year from Mosiac records. The site seems to have gone now? Some amazing images at high quality.
Michael Cuscuna (Mosaic) sold the Francis Wolff photo archives to Blue Note Records a couple years ago so they are now back in the family. Maybe reach out to Don Was and Company at Blue Note Records to see if they will sell fine art prints. ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic ahh cool
Didn’t realise that, I should have got one while I could
Ahmad never worked with horn players, though he did work early on with guitarist Ray Crawford. The Cadet recordings featured strings and voices. They've never been reissued. Did these sides go up in flames with the Universal fire?
@@mazzysmusic thanks Norman for the insightful interview. Q: did the music come from R2R tapes from the radio station? remind me the call letters please. I've listened to all 4 vinyl sides and will write up something soon.
Thanks for this Mazzy. If you had to choose one of the two releases, which one would you pick?
What is the difference between Monks Palo Alto and the Custodian Mix, sound wise? Which is preferable if I was to only buy one, which I’ll probably do when I figure out which. Thanks. Enjoying the video.
Very good and informative video.
Very well done, Mazzy.
🍸✌ cheers.
Dollar bins are fascinating, why are there thousands or hundreds of thousands of Ahmad JAMAL vinyls in them in the USA. Did he sell millions, did people not like his sounds much after a while, or soon after buying them, did they make thousands more than they could sell...................?
It's a mystery to me. The game commences for the usual fee, plus expenses.
Thank you Zev for allowing me to write the liner notes for these three Ahmad Jamal records.
