I live right across the street from this lake. Have literally never been fishing before but have become obsessed on the idea of fishing this lake. This video was helpful.
nice! I used to live in the green lake hood too, glad my cheesy ways could help you.. :) google " washington state fish stocking " and you'll be able to find out the dates of when they stock the lake, its usually march and april every year and Green lake gets the most fish in King County. right after they stock it, its real easy to target the trout on the rowing center side of the lake.. I moved to Texas, trying to learn how to bass fish now.. :)
Many years ago---like over 60 years ago!...I would walk the few blocks from my home North of Green Lake, cast a line with a bobber on it, from most any point on the shoreline, and would eventually catch several decent sized rainbow trout...they would be in the 7-10" range...I would then take them home, clean them, and have my mom reluctantly (she thinks fish are gross!) pay fry those tasty fish. nothing quite as good as a freshly caught trout!...it is nice to see, that the lake can support the thousands of fish that are stocked, every year. Green Lake, like many urban lakes, has a problem with inflow and outflow of fresh water...the water can be a little brackish, and there is an ongoing issue with milfoil, and other weeds that can grow in relatively shallow lakes. Green Lake has an average depth of 10'....the only deeper part exists near a "man-made" small island, recently named as a game preserve for various birds...The island was made in the 1930s, and the southern end of it(the island is small, like 60' in diameter} was dredged when it was constructed, so a small area around that island is 30' deep....Green Lake is treated by the thousands of local residents, as being a part of their "back yards", so to speak...the city developed nice footpaths and biking paths...I spent much of my youth there, during summers. Great memories from a more innocent time...Seattle was an excellent place to raise a family, back then!...Not so much, now.
thank you, my winter is over, nothing but fishin addict for the next few months :) .. i just saw your gooduck video.. entertaining as always.. i really like your style..
Bah! I dislike the new youtube lay-out. I didn't realize you had so many new videos out! Oh well, guess I can watch a bunch at once now! Awesome jump shot-- as always your great film making ability makes the an average day of relaxing fishing into a feast for the eyes!!
I fish the same way up here in Vancouver BC at the local lakes., Also on clean bottom lakes just a single salmon egg with a piece of worm .And Deli shrimp under a float in places where i just have to do short cast.
Wow i just learned about this lake i live about 20 minutes away I’m about to get my fishing license and gear just wonder what other species of fish is there
Maybe you have not seen a video about this....but a couple of years ago, a guy from the Middle East, fishing from the shore, caught a fish that I never knew (Seattle native here!} existed in Green Lake...he caught a 40lb carp(catfish?)...I could not believe the photo...and the dude took it home and ate it!!...I did not even know that those types of fish were edible...I am now 75....and have lived in the Seattle area all my life...never heard of fish that large being in Green Lake!...as a kid, if I had encountered a fish that large, while swimming, I would have panicked!.lol
the rooster tails work good right after they stock the lake because they're concentrated in that one area by the stadium.. but power bait suspended 5ft off bottom is always gonna be money.
I am planning on fishing there this Sunday. Has anybody fished their recently? I heard it was stocked in late November of this year. I am planning on going in the mid afternoon, and using live night crawlers.
I haven't fished their lately, haven't seen any posts on the fishbrain app either. Did you have any luck? Does anyone have winter tips for carp or trout in green lake?
What weight is your line? I have 1 and 2lb line with size 12-18 treble hooks from Missouri trout fishing. Was wondering if my current set up will be ok with the stocked fish in Green Lake. Thanks!
Pretty sure I use like 6lb or 4lb in green lake. And then a single point small ass hook covered in rainbow power bait, sinker attached to about 5ft leader.. if they are stocking right now per the usual. it should fire right now.

Trout, carp and some bass.. trout is the main attraction though as they stock the lake heavily in spring.

I only tie knots to the swivel i use beads to help protect my knots and eye-lits on the rod.. thanks for the views!
Have you use a spinner to catch them there

@@oneshotjonny Thank you!
how long does it normally take for them to bite? and how do you tell?
If a fish is on, you'll know.. :)
@@oneshotjonny okay then!
What time of day was this? What was your jig setup?
John Fox never had much luck there after like 10 or 11am.. so its safe to say in the morning and it's powerbait. I show the exact setup there.. ;)
how far out are you casting?
As far as she'll go.. but right after they stock the lake, around this time of yr. You can cast anywhere off this dock.
@@oneshotjonny thanks, I caught a 2.5 pound rainbow this january, it was fun! i'm going again this weekend! would flies work? (flyfishing flies)
Flies would work um sure if they have stocked recently..
