- Performing a valve adjustment on an S54 M Coupe with 100k miles. Its last valve adjustment was 40K miles ago.
I am not showing the prep work or the buttoning up of the engine bay after the valve adjustment is complete, but there are many videos showing these steps if you are using this as a DIY source.

This is probably the most detailed video of someone working on a a car that exists on UA-cam. 10/10.
Edit: Bummed that the channel hasn't been updated in a year. Hope all is well @Marie Motors.
I had to go clean myself after watching this video; This girl is every gearhead's wet dream. Now that Ive gotten that out of the way. that was an EXCELLENT Video. Ive always wondered what this entailed and if it is something I want to try on my ZCP
I had no idea the valve adjustment was so straightforward. You made it simple! I'm way less intimidated of owning an s54 now.... and I do have a spare e36 rolling chassis ... 🤣
Can't believe I paid to have that done; never again, thank you...
Sweet! Always wondered what this entailed.
Welcome back 👍
Just discovered your channel this morning and I watch a LOT of BMW content. I really enjoy what I’ve watched so far! I hadn’t watched a valve adjustment process on a S54, really not too bad. Been very happy with my 6mt 330ci ZHP for 10 years. It’s pretty great as a “slow” car that is a lot of fun to drive on the street and great in the twisties.
Great video and extremely helpful.
Thank you for being straight forward yet precise.
Very interesting as I am planning to do the valve ajustment on my M635CSi M88/3 engine. Thank you very much for the great explanations.
Good job!
I always refer to lobes up (or off lobe) as 🐰 ears when looking from the front of the engine. It took me the 3rd time doing valve adjustments on Honda’s when I was 17 or 18? before realising the cylinder doesn’t have to be exactly TDC to start the valve clearance measurement and adjustment procedure.
Thankyou for the next video
Excellent vid! Cant wait for the next one.
cool video! keep doing this way!!
great vid!
the head unit seems well designed to allow quick change of shims. 👍
I'm really looking forward your next update on E24 project. Have you noticed a British youtuber Matt Armstrong purchased an E24 as well?
I’m looking forward to my next E24 update too 😊
I have to finish a few other car projects before the garage belongs to the E24 again.
Hope you put in the new spark plug tube gaskets too. I had to do a valve job on my old datsun with a pushrod 4 banger. I wish it had shims. There was a lot of fiddling going on with each valve.
Yes, those were installed. They are visible when I’m installing the new valve cover gasket.
@@mariemotors I figured you had with how meticulous you are. I just couldn't tell on my device.
I have 2002 z3 M Coupe with S54. What book would you suggest for all the specs needed for maintenance like the valve adjustments?
i know why you all love the imperial more than metric , the tolerance is zerozerozerozerozero ,the metric is so over complicated i know
Instead of turning the crank to measure in numerical order, why don't you just follow the firing order? Way less turning work!
Just personal preference.
