In this video I show you all the astrophotography that I have done using the Celestron NexStar 8 SE. The NexStar 8 SE can be a great telescope for getting your feet wet in astrophotography. It is what I started with to start learning the techniques behind astrophotography. With a Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer/corrector and 30 second exposures using a DSLR, you can actually produce some respectable images on the NexStar SE fork mount. The NexStar 8 SE also makes a fine telescope for imaging the planets.
That being said, I hope you enjoy all the photographs I have taken with this telescope!

I absolutely love every single detail of existence from telescopes to the universe
My lovely parents brought me a refractor telescope when I was a 13 year old kid and I vividly remember watching the moon from my backyard and even spotted Saturn it was a magical experience that still is fresh in my mind. I hope some day to get back into this and enjoy the heavens once again.
Fantastic images! thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of buying a Nexstar 8 this year so this has really help me judge what is possible at the budget. I've no doubt you have built up lots of experience of what is required to capture such good images. Thanks !
The universe is so beautiful 🖤
Very cool Slymin. I always enjoy your videos. It would be great to see your astrophotography workflow, from seeing how you set up the NexImage, to capturing, to processing.
Thank you for sharing these. I've just gotten a NexStar 8 SE and I'm getting ready to buy imaging equipment for it. I will probably get the same basic setup that you use. I get emotional seeing these amazing photographs and thinking that I will be able to see something similar soon.
Those are some beautiful images you've taken, you must be incredibly proud of them.
I'm just starting out, got myself a Celestron 102AZ but I hope to upgrade to a larger telescope as my hobby progresses.
I have a 8se and just picked up the focal reducer.
Your videos helped me out. Thanks for making and sharing them
Take care
I am glad you found them helpful! Take care!
I hope no one here needs the hint "Location: Solar System" for the sunspots ;-).
But thank you very much for demonstrating the abilities of the C8 SE, which can be seen from both sides and obviously differs from the pictures of the ads of Celestron (and Meade a.s.o.) in those wonderful wondermags of astronomy.
The planets look beautiful✨😍❤️
Can't believe you got an image of planet Uranus . ..that was amazing! ..even though it was blurry it was still great 👍🏻

Fantastic pictures… i’m just considering a nexstar 8… looks like it might be the one for me… thanks for your work.. fabulous, can’t wait to put my own pics on here…
Thank you for the details in your video, very informative indeed in terms of what the images look like through Celestron 8SE and the equipment 👍
I’m glad you found it informative!

The images were so awesome!
Wow, amazing what can be done, Uranus is really cool!
I just bought the Celestron 8SE because you recommended it. I love your videos keep it up.
Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks I watch several of your vid’s before I made my first purchase. Your vid’s are very helpful thanks.
Glad you like them!
WOW I DID NOT THINK AN 8" COULD SEE SOME OF THESE THINGS, VERY NICE !
I have the 4se Only, you would be amazed at what you can see with even that tbh 😊
You can re-align RGB using simple channel movement, easy to do even in photoshop, for sub-pixel just do an enlargement first. (Moon shots, Jupiter, Saturn) for perfect alignment you can switch to grayscale and put one layer in negative and 50% opacity, when your picture is gray, it's aligned then reverse to get back to RGB. Always center on green (bayer of the DSLR always had 2x green pixels).
I didn't understand most of this, but I still like it.
@@GavriloPewPew you should try, it's even good when you do a scan in an old magazine, you turn picture to CMYK then re align the channels, you get then a better picture than was printed.
These are great shots for unguided Alt-Az single exposures. You are spot on about the focal reducer. It makes this telescope far more versatile.
Very nice pics. I have a 6se and just ordered the neximage 5.
Thank you for your presentation.
Well thank you for your stunning views of our galaxy....
Now I am new to your channel and looking forward to 2020 as now I no which telescope 🔭 setup I am on for this year so exciting.... thank you.....👍🏼😉😎
Hi from 2020 you shouldn’t even excited
I bought my first telescope today, its nothing quite like yours, I can't wait to look at the sky.
How’s it going?
Excellent work!
Nice job dealing with the field rotation on top of not being guided.
Sensacional as imagens obtidas parabéns show de mais.
Ive had one for years now and its really lightweight and easy to use with the Starsense.
After imaging to the limit of the C8, I now use it only for lunar and solar imaging.
Most people will use this as a stepping stone to a true dedicated astro-imaging setup, with ASI camera and long exposure capability, but it isnt optimum for imaging anything but the moon or sun at a more detailed level.
The sun spots are very nice I remember the first time I saw sun spot with a back yard telescope and sun filter of course it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and as for the planets particularly Saturns rings wow!!! great hobby for young and not so young 🔭📡❇️
Agreed!
First time I used my used chepo refractor I saw Jupiter, two moons equally spacesd on either side, that was 35ish years ago, will never forget it!!
Great video. Indeed!
Amazing video thank you for sharing 💕
Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I'm trying to start on astrophotography and thought about building the same set up. Actually I was expecting a little bit more for it
I have one of these. The Alt-Az is fine for optical viewing and astrophotography of bright planets and DSOs, but I also have a GEM (German Equatorial Mount) for long-duration autoguiding. I have had some great planetary images using the GEM. For imaging, I have an SBIG ST-402ME monochrome CCD with colour wheel, with a ZWO AS1200MM-S monochrome CCD for autoguiding. For me, the 8" SCT is the sweet spot for light-gathering ability and portability.
Wow! This is impressive! I just received my Celestron NexStar 8SE hope to get as good results as you did! Thank you for sharing!
Tell us your experience please.
I have used it few times trying to capture venus and moon. Unfortunately, I couldn’t focus. Moon was out of focus if someone knows how I can fix that could you possibly help.
What camera are you using?
Jujubean none, I was just stargazing and it was unsuccessful. I don’t understand what is wrong. I am using the basic eyepiece which comes in the box
@@aisha3944 I'm not sure what's wrong. The default eyepiece that came with mine works fine with my scope.
Just making sure you are turning the focus knob right?...
This is beautiful
Great shots.
Beautiful man thanks
Great shots. I would love to a side by side comparison of these shots with and without the reducer

Hi, great images. Does the DSLR need any modifications to capture these images? I also have a Canon 3i and have seen videos showing removal of a
sensor for better performance in astrophotography. Thanks.
its amazing that you took a picture of a supernova

Hello slymin, I have a 6se and want to upgrade the eyepiece. Would you recommend the Orion premium eyepiece kit or the Orion eyepiece expanse with a 2x Barlow?

Amazing and thanks, I think I am gonna get this things and get going
You’re welcome!
Oh that's so cool! I want to buy this telescope.
Hey very nice video , did you make any mod. to the T3i camera ? thanks .
Wow nice 😘❤️
what magnification you use for moon video capture in this video?
Great photos. I recently purchased the NexStar 8SE. I am waiting on delivery for NexImage 10, a F/6.3 focal reducer and the attachments to hook a DSLR camera up to the scope. Are you using an equatorial mount for the DSOs or are you using the default tracking that comes with the NexStar? Also, are you using RegiStax to process the images?
Can you tell me what you used i3 lenses to get a good shot of Jupiter I have this scope with a 2x extender and a couple of lenses but not getting much
Thanks Slymin- I can’t wait to get some pics like these w our new 8 SE, once the sky clears!
What level of collimation have you/do you perform on your scope? Do you have it "in focus" collimated?
is the moon zoom photo at max scope`s useful zomm?would you need a 16` to get 1000x max magnification?
1000x?....is there even one available to you and I that can produce reasonably sharp images at that magnification?
Good question!
Buen video. Nitidas imagenes.
Please tell me what the second music is, I can't find it anywhere.

Great! Buddy, I am planning to buy the stuff.
Nice work. Finally, a video showing what can be done with a 8". I have a C8 and looking to buy a motorize base. Would you recommend the AVX?
I have been using the advanced VX8 myself for 2 years now and it is such an amazing mount! The stability it offers is amazing if you are looking to take clear photos. Also it has a feature called “all star polar align” which makes the polar alignment without a polar scope possible(I don’t believe most mounts come with that feature) Very robust design, it feels like it will last for years and years.
Awesome
Like a boss!
These deep space objects photos were AMAZING! The image of vesta was pretty cool too, but the images of the moon and mars got a bit blurry...
@@ZackWolfMusic And? Yes, this telescope has an autoguiding mount that has a database of 40,000 C.B. That does not make the photos fake. You are the "low IQ guy" here. Stop talking shit on the internet.
And IQ does not fully define a person's intelligence. Intelligence is much more complex to be just simplified in this way. You are nothing, just an idiot trying to keep your arrogance by shitting on people in the internet.
@@ZackWolfMusic WHAT? It's not a computerized telescope. It's just the mount that is automatic. Do you even know what a telescope mount is? OR DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT A TELESCOPE IS?
The thing is that when you have an alt-azimutal mount or a standard equatorial mount, you need to get the telescope pointed to a celestial body. But with an automatic mount you just press a button and it goes to the object selected. BUT THE OPTICS ARE REAL, THE TELESCOPE DOESN'T PROJECT AN FAKE IMAGE ON THE EYEPIECE. This doesn't even make sense.
I really didn't thought that people could be this dumb. OMG I want to puke, YOU HAVE SUCH A "LOW IQ" It can't even be measured
@@ZackWolfMusic OMG I am just laughing my ass off I really don't know if you are trolling me... BUT IF YOU AREN'T, you certainly have a big problem...
WHY WOULD PEOPLE SELL A TELESCOPE GIVING OPTIC SPECIFICATIONS WHEN ITS ALL DIGITAL (focal length, objective diameter, etc)? WHY WOULD ANYONE SELL A TELESCOPE THAT CAN'T REALLY BE USED TO OBSERVE REAL CELESTIAL BODIES? WHY WOULD SOMEONE APPLY IMPERFECTIONS IN FAKE IMAGES?
The only thing that is eletronic in this telescope is the mount. AND YOU CAN TAKE THE TELESCOPE OF THE MOUNT, AND PLACE IT IN AN STANDARD MOUNT.
And you are almost reaching insanity, you should go to a psychiatric hospital. offending people on the internet out of nowhere. Talking nonsense. Go treat yourself.
@@ZackWolfMusic you really are talking through your arse.
@@Bilbopedia Dont waste your time ever responding to these childish attention seeking Flatearth fruit cakes, just Ignore them, I never ever respond to them, it drives them mad because it deprives them of the attention they crave ( you can your getting to them when they try to get your attention by being abusive🤣) and its like arguing with a petulant child anyway. Besides, I have the 4se version of this telescope, and I've seen nearly all what the OP is showing here with it, the Data base has absolutely nothing to do with imaging, its actually just a set of coordinates loaded into the Tripod Hand set that just helps the GoTo section find what you want to view, nothing more 😊
Do you stack your planetary images?
Cool bruh!
Hi, great images! But certainly all of them are stacked and processed to reach these results, right? What we can see, directly on it, between these objects (especially Uranus and DSO)? Can we see them like in the picture? I'm trying to decide if I'll buy the 8SE and would like to know what can actually be observed with it. Thanks!
Hy Astroblender, I follow You a long time! I would like to know about the camera don’t strike the tripod. How avoid how to set on celestron. In this particular case I’m using a nexstar evolution 8 whith wedge. I appreciate your time and helps!!!

Nice sonoluminescent stars..nice photos.electric universe is awsome.
Steve Forever oh can you explain what sonoluminescence is:) What create it?
Wow Excellent images. What do you edit them with? are they original frame sixze or did you crop in on the image in editing?
I have been tempted by the lower price of an 8SE, but after seeing you planet images I will hold out for a good equatorial mounted scope.
What did you end up getting?
@@tymeframe Still on binoculars. 😢
Those are tremendous photos! Very impressive indeed. Yeah, Venus is always a bit disappointing but you got some great views of Jupiter, Saturn even Uranus wow!
Question - I’m looking to buy a telescope as my 4.5” isn’t really good enough. How do you you like the Celestron 8SE?
Amazing!! Push nexstar 8SE to the limit ..
Hi, thanks for the video! Can i check if the DSLR adapter is original from Nexstar or a third party adapter?
what is the correct setting for my 4se
why is track mode is always off when I set it to altaz ? when setting it to eq north it will remain eqnorth ?
hope you can help me set it properly ?
Hey Slymin - Your photos are really amazing for natural photography with no extreme post-editing done. Question: Do you recall what your manual settings were for the Canon? I'm still trying to grab my first good photo of Saturn and Jupiter. I have the f6.3 reducer, and I have a Canon 77D. When I connect it to the scope in prime focus, Saturn appears extremely small. It also just looks like a bright white dot, and you can't even see the ring... Clearly my settings need work. Same thing with Jupiter - It looks like a white dot, with four smaller dots surrounding it (the moons). I'd really love to properly capture the texture, etc. Thanks!
@@hooch1111 Would love to know because I've yet to get my first good photo...
Are these single exposures or layed/Photoshoped? Either way they look good. I'm on the very brink of getting a 500 telescope and was thinking the nexstar 127mm or 130mm. I have a cheap jason 323 that i purchased at a storage unit liquidation for 10 bucks. It allows me to see the moon, jupiter and moons, saturn and I even checked out the sun (all visual astronomy). It's left me wanting more to say the least. I'd love to be ableto photograph nebulas and galaxy's. Clear skys my friend🌌
These images are great! I am using a similar set up and am wondering if you use the reducer on the planets? Also, have you used a hyperstar with this scope? Thanks for sharing the knowledge! It is very helpful and appreciated!
Surely not. It would defeat the object.
@@lordprotector3367 hahaha, I asked that question 2 years ago! I have, in some cases, used the reducer on planets. I got a magic capture of Saturn with 8 moons that was liked and re-tweeted by the Cassini team and viewed over 200,000 times! I mostly use a 2x barlow, but it is great to get other perspectives... the reducer is great for catching a wide angle and lots of Saturn's moons... tried on Jupiter too!
Would the Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera work instead of the Canon T3i?
It should work fine as long as you have a T-ring that fits your camera.
5:17 interesting great video
Something that’s no supposed to be their interesting
What's in the moon crater?
Slymin, I recently purchased the Celestron NexStar 8SE. When you say quality eyepieces what eyepieces would you recommend for planetary viewing and deep space viewing? Any advice would be helpful.
If you want really good planetary views, I would recommend the Explore Scientific 82° 1.25" eyepieces, or even the new 52° series 1.25" eyepieces. Another great option is the Celestron Luminos 1.25" and 2" 82° eyepieces. The 1.25" eyepieces will give great planetary views, but since they have an 82°AFOV, they will also be great for Deep Sky. On the 8 SE you may not use the 82°AFOV to its full potential, but if you ever get a wide-field refractor, they will give amazing views in that too.

why did you use the focal reducer for imaging the moon?..is there an advantage?
What was casting that shadow in the last moon crater pic? Love it.
Maybe a giant ass rock
Hey I have a quick question. Are these images similar to what you will actually see visually observing? Worse? Better?
Visual observation of deep sky objects is drastically different than long exposure photographs. It isn't so apparent when viewing star clusters, but you will never see a nebula visually like you will in a good image. Our eyes just can't pick up enough light like a camera can. Visually the planets are similar to images though. Planets are bright enough that your eye can pick up enough light to present a great view. If you have a good telescope, and a clear night of seeing the planets are amazing!
More please!
so i have the Celestron nexstar8se. i only have what it came with. it has a lens 25mm plossl, thats all it came with. what elese do i need to buy in order to see what you saw? please let me know you can pm of u want or through here. than- ks a bunch
I have a special request. Could u please do a video showing one second exposures of each of the things you showed on here so that people who can’t afford a tracking mount can get a good idea of what they will be able to see or at least image with an 8” telescope without a tracking mount?
3:20 There seems to be other moving object in bottom left. Any idea what it is?

What do you use to take that photos?
3:10 what is the faint fuzzy to the right?
Nice work Slymin, I am using a Celestron 8"Edge on AVX mount here in SW Utah and am hoping to get some good photo's of
Comet 46P/Wirtanen this December, but have to say the geo engineering in our sky's here anyway has been a real bummer especially over the last year. Finding a clear night is getting very hard to do as the sky is bombarded almost daily now. Dont know if your having the same issues where your at or not. It does make for some interesting photos with my dslr at sun down however. >:/
Did you ever get comet pictures? I got a few with just a telephoto, but on short exposures as I didn't have any tracking at the time.
