Melon Geek, As usual, very deep and very wise. I account you one of the wise on our beloved Tolkien, so that is no surprise at all. May the hair on your toes never fall out. Namarie.
Happy Hobbit Day! I love that little exchange as they return to the Shire. It's probably one of the reasons Frodo can't go back to his old life, too much has happened and he has been through too much.
Great topic! I think there's also a connection to Feanor and the Noldor leaving Valinor. That might also be like leaving Eden. But I suppose the elves do in a sense reclaim Eden when they sail back
My friend, brilliant. Do you think the Arthurian ideal of might for right influenced Tolkien here? The knightly ideal of the strong finding validation in protecting the weaker?
When I think of the loss of innocence, I think of Celebrían. I don't know what the Orcs did to her but she never recovered in Middle Earth and had to go to the Undying Lands for healing.
I like your videos. Legolas heard the voice of thd seagulls. He cannot return to the woods unchaged. I rhin there is some loss of childhood there. The elves were meant go west. The one who stray and stall are kimd of the children among the elves.
Very well done! It is tragic that of all the Hobbits, Frodo is the one whose loss of innocence forever scars him the most.
