Ok, I'm going to attempt to defend some of the comments from the last video. Those of us who have received actual cosmetology training and been to school, finished and obtained a license, we were taught that doing a relaxer and a lightener in the same day was definitely a NO NO (No shade to the non-license stylists so please don't take offense to that). Now doing a relaxer with a semi-permanent color in the same day, yes you can do that. However, to do a relaxer and then turn around to then pre-lighten the hair in the same day is like a disaster waiting to happen (as we were taught). Now, if there is something missing that we were not taught, then that should be stated but I don't think they are hating on you, I just think that they are seeking knowledge and going off of what they have been taught or have experienced themselves. Personally, I was taught NEVER to do a relaxer and lightener in the same day. I was taught to wait at least 2 to 3 weeks to do any type of coloring or lightening process on relaxed hair. Yes, you must make sure that you are doing the proper treatments to keep the hair healthy and they now have the treatment you can add to the lighteners and relaxers to protect the integrity of the hair. Now unless their is some type of treatment done in between (protein treatment to strengthen) and then go back in to lighten it, maybe so. Even then, I was even taught that the hair has already been broken down by the relaxer so to go back in and add a lightener on top of it, you are pretty much asking for the clients hair to end up on the floor, that's if they make it back to the chair with hair on their head and it did not go down the drain. lol I do love your channel and your work. You are very good at what you do! Please don't chew me up in the next video. LOL
That's where advanced education comes in, cosmetology school teached the basics! When you invest in your education you'll learn specialized techniques!
In my opinion as a former stylist of many years...it can be done BUT it all depends on the condition of the hair. It also depends on where you are putting the Lightner and the amount of time you're leaving the Lightner on the actual hair. In my experience if, you follow these necessary precautions you will be fine. Also, pre-conditioning before and after these chemical services will protect the client's hair. However, I can't stress enough...do your research beforehand and ALWAYS seek a licensed professional to complete these services.
I went finished school also and was trained to wait the 2 weeks to color after a relaxer as well it's been so long ago I graduate from cosmologist school way back in the 1985 and I know things have changed but I still do hair how I was trained but everything is different now.
