my 8 yr old daughter has just started getting into Tolkien's work. she has asked for the first 4 books for Christmas. i'm so proud of her, she loves to read.
A Tolkien gift guide would be fantastic! Thank you for all of the hard work you put in on this channel. It is my favorite Middle Earth channel and I learn so much from your research and interviews.
Congrats with the 400K. Now lets ho for the 500K. Love your videos. Man you help me a lot with understanding the world of Tolkien. So thank you so much for making this content.
I'm truly getting excited about the new Amazon's LOTR adaptation. Since its focus will be the Second Age we will get to see Sauron in his elven form, the unrequited love of Celebrorim for Galadriehl, and her building Lothlorien (hopefully). I'm obsessed with elven lore. Please keep us posted with any little tidbits of the show you come across. I enjoyed your video analysis of the promo picture. Congratulations!!!
Congratulations on breaking 400,000. And thank you for doing these videos. Hope you're enjoying a pint or two. They do after all come in pints. 😁😆😅🤣😂🍻👍
Don’t know if you’ll see this since the vid was posted a few days ago but I would love to hear you read all of the books in audio book form. All the different voices for all the characters are great and your enthusiasm about everything makes makes every video great. Keep up the great work man!
Excellent live stream. You've got the right demeanor for this type of show. Well done. Keep up with the great videos. This is a great info source. Be well!
Bro I like your voices from the readings . You’ve become the voice I hear whenever the dialogue for Sauron or Morgoth come up in re-reads. You did a creepy Annatar & a fearsome Morgoth. No Brit accents? It’s all good, homie. USA! USA! Isidur is a great pick for show protagonist. I only fear it possibly limits how much 2nd Age lore they can adapt. Gimme more live-action Tolkien. I’m not gonna preemptively rant.
Just to think " the conservation of quantum information means that information cannot be created nor destroyed " whatever is said here in some way history of somewhere in a parallel universe where it holds true. Is an encouraging thought I think, I know I might be wrong still this notion gives new meaning to life and death.
yes! great 400k live stream! Congrats on the 400k!!! yes! I've kind of had the same thought when it comes to the orcs. since they were once Elves, would they still be viewed and judged as once being elves or still be viewed as orcs.
Congrats dude! Just found you a few months ago and binge watched every single video you've made. I really love how you condense such spread out information from so many places about one topic and put it together in a video. It really made me fall back in love with the middle earth lore. What do you think of the non canon stories in Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games if you've ever played them?
I love the SoW/SoM games! They’re super fun! My advice is always - play them for the gameplay, not the lore. They do some pretty wacky things with the lore that doesn’t make sense, but the combat and game elements are great.
@@NerdoftheRings yeah the gameplay is definitely amazing. To be honest, I'm quite enjoying the story as well. It's kinda like the made up stories in Assassin's Creed. They are sort of based in history (Tolkien's canon being the history in the sow games) with fun little twists that don't even need to make sense that much. It's a little parallel universe that you get to experience.
Because of you AND Amazons new show coming I finally just finished audio book Children of Hurin read by Christopher Lee and and in the middle silmarillion. Dang, it’s dense.
Call me crazy but, im hoping for a tv series on The Silmarillion that is done in the animation style of Star Wars The Clone Wars series. I think it would be amazing.
Agree but it shouldn't stop at the end of silmarillion it should go through the entire documented timeline and use well informed filler for stuff like the blue wizards adventure.
As for Niniel, if you read the passage before the spring time when Glaurung came, it states that Niniel conceived after marriage to Turin on mid-summer Day the year before. If she got pregnant in their first month of marriage, she would be between seven to nine months pregnant depending on when in the spring Turin killed Glaurung. This is disturbing to me. I wish Tolkien had written that she had a miscarriage or gave birth to the child before she died. Does anyone else have a different explanation?
I don’t like to dwell on the more grim details. I’ve made peace with with fact that on the whole, the Children of Hurin is an unyielding tragic myth. I still enjoy the story. lol it’s not 100% misery
Do I need to join the channel to get a link to the discord? I just have a few questions as a new tolkien reader and I figured discord would be a better avenue for those and probably already answered.
Thanks for the question! The discord is a supporter-exclusive. I wanted to make it a perk, but also accessible, so it’s available at the lowest tier (99 cents/mo) on both YT and Patreon.
@@NerdoftheRings thanks for responding so quick. Of course as soon as I posted the question you answered it in stream. Guess I'll have to join! Your coverage of the lore is great and encouraged me to give the books another shot.
In Jason O'Keefe's question about Arwen, he seems to think Arwen was given the gift of Man, but I am pretty sure she never had a choice. She was an elf to the end, wasn't she.
Her father had the choice of being a Man or an Elf and he chose to be an Elf. Thus both Elrond and Celebrian were elves and therefore Arwen was too. She shouldn't get a choice.
She does have the gift of men. All of Elrond’s line have the same choice. In the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen, Arwen tells him that the choice has long passed to be able to go west and that she must embrace the gift of men. Also: “The Third Age ended thus in victory and hope; and yet grievous among the sorrows of that Age was the parting of Elrond and Arwen, for they were sundered by the Sea and by a doom beyond the end of the world.” This is why the separation of Arwen from Elrond is so sorrowful for him - it is truly goodbye until the end of the world.
@@NerdoftheRings That whole thing is confusing. "Too late to go West?" That is at least a lie, as her father went West way after she said that. If she chose to be human, wouldn't she be united with Elessar in her death? Yet she wasn't. This looks like a paradox to me.
So as I’m looking at this and re-reading the section, I’m more and more confident that she indeed would be reunited in death with Aragorn, as she would be counted among the race of Men. I think a disconnect here is that the films use the “no ship now that can bear me hence”, however this line actually is from when Aragorn dies, long after Elrond has sailed west.
@@NerdoftheRings Thanks for the clarification. I also reread the passage and it clearly states, "But Arwen became a mortal woman" after she married Aragorn/ Elessar.
Matt - huge congrats on all your success and content! Think I subbed in around the 30/40’s. so it’s been very cool to see your rise. Bring on 1Mill 🤩🤩🧝♂️
