    for me these video are perfect the one skill I need to improve on and pos is the hardest is listening, I work for a Spanish company in the UK but when the Spanish talk fast ( and sometimes in vasco ) its really hard to understand even I've been studying for several years. my work are sending me to Zaragoza next month to work there as like an immersion, very excited :) listening and talking is now my top priority :) thanks

      Just finishing up a trip to Málaga today and have a recommendation for you. If you're like me and have studied intensely looking at words on a screen, and have been speaking aloud, perfect! However, you'll get a jolt of about 3 days not having the words in front of you. Had I realized, I would have practiced 24 lines of dialog in a pretend conversation aloud looking away from the study material. Near immediately you'll find tiny missing vocabulary to add and, you'll run face first into things you want to say but didn't know you hadn't learned. All your causal conversations with natives will be exchanges of about 12 lines back and forth. Aloud, eyes not focused on a page, let your thoughts inspire you. Finally, Spaniards are amazingly kind, if they see you struggle, they will switch to English. Estoy aquí para practicar el español contigo. Si quieres podamos practicar el inglés en un rato, ¿vale?

    I was quite pleased with myself becasue I was able to follow the thread of the conversation and grasp most of what was said. As such I was able to answer all the questions correctly. I find that my listening skills are far better than my speaking ability. Whilst I'm able to understand what is being said I then find it hard to formulate the sentences I need to respond.

    Seeing that this says "Advanced Intermediate" and I've only been studying for 5 months, I was expecting to be lost. Then I wondered if me having studied mostly Caribbean dialects would make it even more difficult. But I could understand around 90% of the conversation! It didn't feel like I was straining to understand a foreign language, it just felt like I was watching a podcast, completely relaxing. I forgot it was even in Spanish! I'm impressed with my knowledge and thankful for your approachable content. Definitely subscribing!

      This was good. There were a few parts that I did not understand, but knew the question or answer because i did make out the other words. I realized, the problem with comprehension (for me) is speed and word recognition. This paste (speaking) was good for me. And, i understood most of the words.

    That was actually a lot easier than I thought it might be… Thank you for making it easy to follow!
    I took 4 years of Spanish in high school (a long time ago), but I never became fluent. Recently I have been using DuoLingo to review and start learning again, but talking/listening has always worried me… (I’m not the most social person, and also there’s certainly no way I was going to become fluent from 1 hour of class per day with 30 other students for the teacher to focus on)
    DuoLingo does have “listening” exercises, but only like one sentence at a time. Actually, they do have a podcast, but I tried the first one and it seemed way too hard to follow the story (even though it wasn’t super complicated)
    I was worried I might never be able to listen in real time (even though I do think directly in Spanish for the A1 exercises I’ve been working on), but I enjoyed listening to your conversation, very approachable 🙂
    (Of course, I did have to pause and look up various terms, like “campo” is not just field, but also countryside! I also learned: rodear, bollería, me sabe mal, casera [which I proudly guessed from context], bizcochos, género… Many new terms!)
    Edit: After watching the questions, I also learned dieta rara, (uvas) pasas, and dátiles (some of which I had tried looking up before, but I couldn’t understand well enough to write them down). Ultimately I got all the questions right, except the ones relating to these terms

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  Рік тому +2

      That's fantastic!
      It's great that you could work out some new words from the context or from words that you already knew!
      Doulingo is a fantastic tool to get people started and to drill vocab and expression, but nothing beats chatting to native speakers and listening to them talk :)

    I was pleasantly surprised at how well I kept up with the conversation. I got all the answers apart from "dates and currants". Gordon doing the Geordie accent reminds me of a couple of jokes (not necessarily funny ones, but Gordon and Cynthia might like them)...Joke 1: A Geordie walks into a hairdressers and says, "Can I have a Perm" and the hairdresser says, "I wandered lonely as a cloud..." Joke 2: What's the difference between a kangaroo and a kangaroot? Answer: One's an Australian animal and the other one's a Geordie stuck in a lift. 😉

    I'm surprised that this is Adv Inter? I understood 90% of your conversation. I think its because you intentionally spoke slowly. Because my in-laws in Valencia speak so fast in their normal conversation I can hardly follow 🙂a lot of slang and words joined together. Anyway I appreciate your videos a lot! Muchismas Gracias

    Like you Gordan, I am an English speaking native living with my Spanish wife, in Spain. The other day we were speaking about something and I said, "no me interesa." She stopped me and suggested that I start using "no me apetece" more because it is not as strong as "no me interesa." Therefor, when you were both talking about eating cake, and you said, no me interesa, I immediately thought that you were being a little forward and a nicer way of stating this would be to use the other form I mentioned. Would you agree with my Spanish wife? Thanks.

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  Рік тому +2

      'No me interesa' could sound rude (or not at all). It all depends on how you say it and when. However, 'no me apetece' can't always substitute 'no me interesa', for example:
      ¿Qué opinas de la política? - Pues, no me interesa mucho la polítca. (I'm not interested in politics that much). Here, you wouldn't say 'I don't fancy politics' (no me apetece la política).
      ¿Quieres venir al cine esta tarde? - Ay, lo siento, pero es que no me apetece. (I'm sorry, but I don't fancy) If you said: no me interesa (I'm not interested) that could sound rude.
      I hope that that helped, Tommy!

      Thanks for the reply. It helped tremendously. In fact, your example about going to cine is similar to what actually happened. My “peña” which is obviously Spanish, wanted me to go to a Pueblo for a wine festival and my Spanish wife over heard me telling them “lo siento pero no me interesa.” Which led her to tell me “no me apetece” would have been better and nicer!She just lacked your professional explanation.
      Thank you again.
      Tommy

      One major attraction for me personally about full blown Iberian Spanish is the 3 layers of depth in the verb forms which equate to intensity. Whereas in English we must add more words to paint the car-wreck the language is, with Spanish being 85% Latin based, it embodies the three layer depth approach. Plus, it's an amazing way to amplify your vocabulary. Learn the layers of nearly every verb and it will lead you to a perfect understanding of the idioms. Good luck!
