yes you can use pnly one ink cartridge.

I have black ink cartridge and no color ink cartridge. The printer doesn't recognize the only black ink.

Try reinstall it.

@@CopyPrintScanChannel I ordered a colored ink cartridge and now it works. I guess it doesn't work with only the black ink cartridge.
