The past three years have been the toughest time I've had to face as an adult... After losing my job, my apartment, my car, my mentor(who was like a father to me) and now my best friend, it felt like I had nothing left.
BUT, I still have a mother who took me back in and has been helping me get back up after falling down and that's when I realised:
I'm still blessed, many have had to endure similar situations alone, yet I have an extraordinary mom, loving caring and strong... And even when I was at my lowest, she didn't see me as a failure.
There is always something to live for, we just have to spot the little light flickering in the distance and then keep our eyes fixed on that tiny beacon of hope until we've escaped the darkness.
No matter how dark the night, the sun comes up every day to shine upon us once more. This too shall pass, eventually.
I went through all the exact same things as u, wasn't easy still living with some of these many regrets 😢❤

The After 😢
This might not be the right place to share such personal details, but I want to tell someone about what this songs means to me... On August 4th I got hospitalized with severe depression and I was there for 3 months. Those 3 months have been the hardest in my entire life and I can honestly say that did not think I would survive it. I have lost count of all the times I tried to kill myself. I just wanted to get out. I did not want to live anymore. I had convinced myself that life was not for me.
This song described everything I felt at the time. I know this was most likely not the meaning behind it, but to me it was about coming to terms with the fact that your life is ending. Right before I tried to commit suicide for the first time I was listening to this and the words "Morning has come and I have to go." resonated with me. This was something I had to do. I know it's probably hard to understand and some of you might see it as a bad thing. As if this song made me want to commit suicide. But that was not the case. I was very sick. I know that now. However, I really needed someone to understand what I was feeling, but no one could. I felt so alone. Which is why this song was such a comfort and relief to listen to.
It took a lot of courage to try and kill myself. Those who say that it's the easy way out really do not understand what it's like. Between living and dying, dying was the lesser of the two evils. I was not an idiot. I knew what this was doing to my family and I felt awful. I hated myself. I felt selfish for wanting to end it, but at the same time I felt selfish for staying and causing so much pain to those around me. I was a burden to everyone. Birdy and Rhodes sing "But if we're strong enough to let it in, we're strong enough to let it go." I had to be strong enough to let go of everything and end my life...
But I'm still here. At the time I did honestly not believe I could ever get better, but I did. I'm still fighting with these thoughts, but I no longer believe that I'm meant to die. I want to live - for my family and friends most of all. I still listen to this song, and when I do a lot of those feelings come back, but not in a bad way. It's a reminder of where I was, but also of where I am now. I'm not in that dark place anymore.
Thank you to those of you who took the time to read this. It helped a lot putting all these thoughts and feelings into words.
Without Birdy i would more depressed. Some people don't know how much singers can do. And how much they mean to you. I have in in a really deep depression. And Birdy was my only way to survive it

I strongly believe that we need more people suffering from depression to speak out and share their experiences. This would not only serve as encouragement for others in the same situation, but also help lift the stigma surrounding this misunderstood illness.

I had thought that I was a failure for not being able to give up on fighting alone. Then, today, my heart no longer feels burden when listening to this song. This song means a lot to me. I was struggling with depression when I met a beautiful boy filled with life. We spent some beautiful time together. I would feel an insane rush when he was around. For first time in long, long time, I could be vulnerable with someone, and felt extremely connected. But turned out, he wasn’t looking for a relationship, or even the friendship we had. I had extremely attached to him, but he started ghosting me and drifted away. It’s been more than three years, and some nights when I have depressive episodes, I still have dreams of him. But then I listen to this song and make myself realise that he will never love me the way I do and that “truth is beauty after all”. And I am strong enough to let it all go.

I loved this song right when it came out... it felt personal, a song I'd hold dear even though I did not resonate with the lyrics at the time. many years later, I'm suffering real heartbreak. It feels as if this song was waiting to catch me, to help get me through this period. sometimes grief and healing seem counterintuitive. "I don't know why" I need to feel such pain before I release.."to break so hard", knowing there is freedom in letting go. I love this song for this. it faces hurt and freedom at once. this is a moving song and it seems to have touched so many people when they've needed it.

at the beginning of september 2015, my bf of 4 years - whom i thought to be the love of my life and wanted to marry and who even asked my parents for my hand in marriage but never proposed to me - broke up with me. the next 2 months, i spent crying every night, listening to this song. it really helped me "let it all out". then, after a few months, i was able to listen to this song without crying, but actually listened to the lyrics and their true meaning. it genuinely helped me deal with the break up and with why we have to "let things go" in life. now, 7.5 months later, i'm with a new guy - never thought i'd meet someone again whom i could like in that way, let alone that quickly after the break up. but somehow, everything just aigned in a perfect way and i'm happy again. he helped me heal so much. so did this song. i was strong enough to let it all in and i was strong enough to let it go too, even though i thought i was never going to mend again. i'm just sharing this on here for all of you who might be going through something similar and who might be thinking he/she was your one true love and you will never be happy again - everything happens for a reason. if you were meant to be, you would have been. as cliché as this might sound, time WILL heal your pain and you'll be able to move on eventually. you were strong enough to let it in and you'll be strong enough to let it go and open yourself for even better and bigger things ^_^ in the meantime, may this song help you heal too. much love and strength! x
