You have done a excellent job explaining all aspects of this wonderful resource, Im sure your videos will inspire our young kids to get outside and enjoy this sport. We are lucky to have good fishing and camping all over BC. Keep up the good work Petr
Ive just came across your videos over the last couple weeks as this is my first year salmon fishing. I've learned a lot pretty quickly from being out there every day almost and videos such as yours and a few others. you seem like a legit dude, really nice guy, humble. Appreciate your videos man. Good luck with your channel and future vids! thx again.
Thank you for the kind comment. It's funny that you'd say I'm humble because some people accuse me of bragging about my numbers of fish caught. For me that's a calculated action because in this world if you don't promote yourself, nobody will do it for you. Thanks for watching
@@petrhermanadventures9509 I can hear the humbleness in the way you speak man. I don’t think that’s bragging, at all, those guys are 100 percent not catching as many fish and are pissed. Haha. But yes very informative videos. Thanks again! I will continue to watch. Good luck with steelhead season this year.
Happy Birthday Petr. Really enjoy your content, but think this episode is my favourite by far. Love the honesty, vulnerability and down to earth feel of your videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us and wishing you all the best in 2024.
I belive you Petr : Cohos are still around on Vedder River in December and I also caught some Coho every year in December too 😄! My last 2 cohos ( still fresh with tiny tiny red ) caught on Dec 2' 2023 this year before the pouring rain storm 😄I love to use Soy Sauce too plus some white pepper and sesame oil 😋😋😋Happy Birthday Petr 🎂🎂🎂
Hello fishy petr'.. talked to you a few times on the Vedder' really appreciate your videos' all great wholesome' educational' fun for the whole family'.. and thanks for your stewardship in cleaning up after so many that just couldn't care' can't count the smoke filters I pick up let alone all the other garbage' you take so much out of the river' just because you have a genuine love appreciation for all that's yet accessible.. the gates and barriers are going up for good reason.. take care' and keep on enjoying '
Great video! Happy birthday Petr! Love this kind of content from you, makes us, your viewers have a little bit more connection with our favorite content producers like you. Keep up the good work and hope to see you out there again.
Happy 50th Birthday Petr. As you were chopping I was thinking you better be careful with that slanted foundation. Lo and behold, you nick yourself. Thank you for sharing your experiences, your knowledge and your adventures. Be safe and enjoy the holidays.
I had just sharpened the axe, so it was razor sharp. Really, I barely touched it and ended up bleeding all over the place. Thanks for the nice coomment.
Hi and a happy birthday Peter! I used to live in BC a few years back and studying and went to fish the Vedder river a few times. Every time I went, I was touched by the beauty of the river, it replenishes something that’s within me with joy. Today, I am glad to have stumbled upon your channel, thank you very much for who you are. I really wish that one day I could be on that beautiful river together, catching a fish or two, if not some time. With appreciation, Hyewon
I think the connection we feel with nature is easily lost in out modern lives. People were hunter gatherers for ages untold, our souls miss that somehow. Thank you for watching!
🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY Petr🎉!!!! You made it !!!! That's what counts and that's an amazing shore lunch !!!! It's what dreams are made of for us fisherman!!! There will be a time when your girls will join ya !!!!! Trust me you might be 65 or 75 by then !!!! Tight lines buddy enjoy the nature!!!!
i am of the feeling that tailing them doesn't hurt them as much as they thrashing around in a few inches of water and bashing into rock etc. a net is the best option, but i truly think tailing is second best at shore
Ive been wondering about the catch and cook procedure ever since the behavior came into view on utube with cultural practices unique to each group such as large family units having outings together, or picnics with many members of the group fishing . How do you maintain respect for catch allotment, size, species etc regulations when everything is shared, cut up on the spot, cooked, eaten or and possibly wasted, or given away, fed to dogs ect. How do you enforce anything related to the fishery, or fire bans, littering, bear attractants, open liquor, rings of rocks left behind etc. Im curious what people think about this . Thanks for the video!
Those are all good points, I try to always set a good example, because there really is very little we can do in terms of enforcement. I've been cleaning up our river for nearly a decade now and other places for most of my life. It seems kind of endless and futile at times, but if nobody did anything we'd be knee deep in litter in the more popular spots.
How do you personally determine when a fish is too far gone to keep? Unless I want eggs i generally don't keep anything that's colored up unless its a lightly colored buck. Some people say to look at the gills or the belly. Anything you look for in particular? (Could be an interesting short video)
I look at the belly, if it's black it goes back. I have eaten some buck coho that were bright red and still tasted awesome on the BBQ, does tend to got soft faster. I find it's the firmness of the meat that suffers, not really the taste.
LOL, I've seen bears up there, but not very often. I'm actually surprised there are not more bears hanging around this river. I have lots of bear stories from my 13 years working in the bush, but only one ever tried to eat me.
Yes, but after 2 months of constant rain the cedar is the only wood that's still dry inside, the alder is like a sponge. My favorite wood for smoking fish is alder.

2 of my daughters fish with me sometimes and the third one snorkels with me, so nothing to complain about there. Thanks for the kind comment.
Happy Belated Petr. Next time would you mind sharing that meal, that looks real good. :)
Thanks for the video
Well, if you ever see me cooking by the river, stop for a bite. Thanks for watching
Happy birthday, Petr. I enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Happy 50th Birthday Petr! Great video man, catch & cooks are some of my favourite videos, keep it up. 👍
Glad you like them!
Belated happy birthday, and happy new year..🎉🎉🎉
Thank you and happy new year to you as well.
Happy birthday..welcome to the 50 year club....about time you joined us lol. Great video Petr...enjoy the day.
Growing up I used to think 50 was old, somehow it really doesn't feel that way now.
Great video. Happy bday old guy 😂
They'll be calling me old man river soon enough, thanks for the comment.
i am of the feeling that tailing them doesn't hurt them as much as they thrashing around in a few inches of water and bashing into rock etc. a net is the best option, but i truly think tailing is second best at shore
Yes, you are right, but that fish had a lot of fire left in him and didn't want to be grabbed. I carry a net about 95% of the time.
Happy Birthday!! Appreciate all that you do
Thank you so much!
Happy Bday Petr. I really liked your comments about what you regret and your achievements. All the best for this new year.
Thanks, it's not always easy to talk about stuff like that. Happy new year to you as well.
You look much younger! I thought you were about 40. Happy Birthday!
Yeah, I've always looked younger than my age, it was annoying when I was getting ID'd for beer at 30, now it's kind of nice.
Happy Birthday and Happy new Year
Almost a year late but Happy Birthday. Great video.
Thank you for the kind comment.
Happy Birthday
Great topics you chat about
Just subbed
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel.

Happy Birthday Petr, btw you look a lot younger than 50, look like late 30
Thanks, yes, I've always looked younger than my age, it was annoying when I was 30 and looked 20, but not so bad now.
A cedar fire and a pair of Simms waders. What possibly could go wrong?
I had the same thought, so I got them nice and wet before I started cooking.
Happy bday new sub
Thanks for the comment and welcome aboard!
Happy birthday
Thank you.

Where abouts on the vedder is the spot 2:20 in?
There's a reason I didn't show background. It's not fair to people who frequent a spot to show it on video or name it.
Little late but Happy Birthday!
Thank you, better late than never :)
plot twist; due to the smell of the salmon cooking several bears showed up and ate peter. rip.
LOL, I've seen bears up there, but not very often. I'm actually surprised there are not more bears hanging around this river. I have lots of bear stories from my 13 years working in the bush, but only one ever tried to eat me.
Alder make a neicer fire for a catch and cook
Yes, but after 2 months of constant rain the cedar is the only wood that's still dry inside, the alder is like a sponge. My favorite wood for smoking fish is alder.
Happy birthday Petr. Tight lines.
Thank you. We're headed into steelhead season, so I expect mostly slack lines for the next few months :)
Happy Birthday! I will be 50 too in a few days
Well, happy birthday to you too! 50 is kind of a strange birthday isn't it? It sure was for me.
I am Chinese. The Chinese wise man Kong Fuzi said you know the destiny at fifty. I kinda feel that way. LOL@@petrhermanadventures9509
