7:40 very nice adjustment, thats how it should be. Gunson blue at idle, turns orange after throttle blip as the carb injects extra fuel, and stays bluish at a steady higher rpm.
I follow you for a while now and you are doing a really good job! Your videos are concise, easy to understand (even for a non-native English speaker as myself) and I always learn new tips. Thank you for that.
you've got a new subscriber, i checked out some of the progress of this bike and now I'm so intrigued on the outcome of it, thanks to these videos my whole perspective as to what i want when i actually save up to buy a motorcycle of my own has completely changed and this seem a lot more appealing to me, the bond you get with the bike is amazing, not to mention the amount of knowledge one gains by actually being hands on with the bike rather than just buying it made or buying the mainstream models which are becoming too common and something like this is a lot more unique and like someone else said in a comment, just knowing its YOURS and everything about it has ones touch in it has got to be a great feeling, Great vid! keep up the great work!
Sounds good man! Glad to see you rolling the gs out again, appreciate all your videos as they really helped me finish mine. I dident know about the color tune, may have to pick one up
I saw this Video, subscribed and by now watched all of your videos, but this is still my favourite. The bike really looks stunning! Big Fan of your channel and can‘t wait for new Stuff, especially on the CB 750, for I‘m building one myself. To be honest, your videos gave me the last kick to start a Project by myself. Keep it up and cheers from Germany!
Man your videos have gotten me more motivated than ever to finally get on with my CB400n. I don’t have any mechanical knowledge at all and need to go out and get some tools, the bike has been sitting in my garage for years and it’s something I have wanted since I was about 12! thanks 👍 hopefully I won’t get too stuck
Great video thanks. I already had a quick fiddle with my Gsx400f when I bought the kit but will defo revisit your video in the winter as I feel I didn't give it full attention first time. Cheers.
9:10...cheers for being a good neighbor. I wish more people in the US had as much consideration...I mean, I like to think we used to be nice to each other...
Such a bummer in the winter, you can get away with revving at any time of daylight in the summer. People in the US have always been nice whenever I've visited.
Thanks, the knee dents play a trick on the eye and the lines go a bit everywhere when looking at it from one angle, something I hadn't thought of but once you walk around it, it all changes. Seat cowl next to paint.
Cool tool! Didn’t even know it existed I wonder if it is just a tool or if it could stay on the bike as a normal spark plug for aesthetics purposes… for example on the CX500 that has the sparks in plain sight, being able to see the combustion would be awesome
The GS is my favourite out of the to bikes I think it will perform a bit better than the Cx ,love the kick start only its going to be a beast keep up the good work
Hey man, great video, only issue you need sync carbs first as you could get different amount of vacuum in carbs, and it would suck different amount of fuel. I would advise if you have huge sync issue is to colortute again.
I was debating whether to sync first or not, I opted for colortuning first as the bike wasn't running properly and the main things to change was the fuel screw, I imagine I'm going to have to go back and forth with both colortune and synchronising.
Thanks. Final jets were 17.5 idle - 87.5 mains, with the fuel screw at 1.25 turns out and the air mix screws at .25 screws out. (A huge difference from the 2 full turns out the book says for the standard air filter). Oh and I raised the needle by 2 clips.
Love the page! Have a GS550 with all the same options here in Canada. Curious if you are adjusting the top(air) screw or the lower(fuel) screw as you go through the color tune? Also, what did you end up with for your main jet and idle jet? Appreciated!
@@forthebold Awesome thanks for the reply. Also I swear I'm not copying you but on Tuesday this week I picked up my first CX500! stoked for the build and to watch your next one.
i have a GS750 that gets hung up at about 3k to 4k and adding throttle does nothing for a moment, then it surges the RPMS smoothly from that point on. Im guessing its my ignition or my fueling, torn apart the carbs already and they were pretty much spotless, floats working properly etc. Now every bike I had before this one has an idle mixture screw, so i figured turning the screws on top of the carbs wouldnt do much for hanging rpms. I cant find any information on the nature of these carbs and what tuning can be done with them, But i know for a fact the points have never been replaced by the previous owners, nor have they ever been adjusted.
Is it fuel injection or old school carbs? If old school then your carbs are very clever in that different parts operate different throttle positioning. Try moving the needle up one notch as from 3/4 open throttle it’s your jet needle and needle jet that controls the fuel. Points is another valid thing to check I guess. If it was m I’d check my timing and make sure the weights are working on them
its quad mikunis. Honestly I didnt even know these bikes had a "distributor" until I watched your video on your GS550. My first bike was a Cx500 and as you are aware it was a fully electronic ignition. I ended up replacing the ignition on that bike with an Ignitech, Im probably going to replace the GS's ignition with a dynatech like you did. Looks way too easy to pass up.
More videos in the series on jetting them. Most importantly by taping up the pods I figured out they were crap and put them in the bin for decent pods. The tape was only ever a test and never anything permanent. Should never be done
I think it was around £30, not bad for an effective bit of kit. I'm going to give the engine a little polish but no more than I did in the first videos of the series, it's got a little dirty since then but nothing gleaming.
For The Bold - dreegez Yeah it is. I didn't even know they existed. That kit would've saved me a lot of headaches in the past. Thanks for the cool find.
we lost an EMS WORKER my small town, in her garage both overhead doors open working with her gas generator , fumes gathered in building needs to be outdoors so the wind can blow away, she was found dead. buy an exhaust hose for your bike run thru hole in door. ,
I have a rear door of that same size at the back luckily so the workshop is basically a tube with good wind going through, luckily ventilation and any bad gasses quickly go out the back. Plus all windows are also open.
I honestly have to admit that this is a learning curve for me also, never used one before, but talking to an engineer the other day he said he used to use similar ones all the time with his old Minis.
I don't even own a motorcycle, but I love watching your videos. Love the project. Cheers!
Thanks for watching, glad these videos feed your love for motorcycles
7:40 very nice adjustment, thats how it should be. Gunson blue at idle, turns orange after throttle blip as the carb injects extra fuel, and stays bluish at a steady higher rpm.
It’s seriously handy visibly see the adjustments
I follow you for a while now and you are doing a really good job! Your videos are concise, easy to understand (even for a non-native English speaker as myself) and I always learn new tips. Thank you for that.
Great to hear that, thanks for watching the videos.

+Eddard Targaryen great. Thanks for subscribing and happy you've caught the cafe racer bug
Sounding nice , can’t wait to see it done
Thanks, hopefully not long.
Sounds good man! Glad to see you rolling the gs out again, appreciate all your videos as they really helped me finish mine. I dident know about the color tune, may have to pick one up

Excellent, take it slow, enjoy, if you get stuck, have a coffee, sit back and think. Take it chilled and it'll all come to you.
Oh also when your put the clip ons on the bike did you have to change the cable lengths for the throttle and clutch?
You can do if you want, alternatively just tuck them in a route where they wont get stuck.
Love my colortune it’s one of the best tools I had bought for me.
Well worth it.
You'll get close with Colortune but from what I've heard you still need to tune the bike under load. Maybe it's good enough for most of us?
Great video thanks. I already had a quick fiddle with my Gsx400f when I bought the kit but will defo revisit your video in the winter as I feel I didn't give it full attention first time. Cheers.
Definitely won't hurt to check it every so often.
9:10...cheers for being a good neighbor. I wish more people in the US had as much consideration...I mean, I like to think we used to be nice to each other...
Such a bummer in the winter, you can get away with revving at any time of daylight in the summer. People in the US have always been nice whenever I've visited.
That thing sounds awesome!
Thanks, it's getting there.
The bike sounds sick!
Yeah I'm happy with how it's getting.
That tank looks fantastic
Thanks, the knee dents play a trick on the eye and the lines go a bit everywhere when looking at it from one angle, something I hadn't thought of but once you walk around it, it all changes. Seat cowl next to paint.

It’s only a tool for temporary use. Not for long use
Thanks for the answer!
Great channel by the way
I didn’t know they still sold them, I remember tuning engines in the 70s with on of those!
I was talking to an engineer the other day who remembers using those years ago also.
Interesting tool, didn't know that one existed.
Very handy.
The GS is my favourite out of the to bikes I think it will perform a bit better than the Cx ,love the kick start only its going to be a beast keep up the good work
I think performance wise the GS will be the beast, the CX is pulling forward in looks for me.
Great video! Interesting piece of kit, not familiar with this before, thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching, it makes tuning a heck of a lot easier when you can actually see what's going going inside.
That is a real 4 cylinders motorcycle sound!
It's good.
It would be great to see the exact carb adjustment point.
There’s a video on that the n the series
Yussssss motovlogs!
Hopefully soon, and you by the looks of it, good job on yours.
Hey man, great video, only issue you need sync carbs first as you could get different amount of vacuum in carbs, and it would suck different amount of fuel. I would advise if you have huge sync issue is to colortute again.

For The Bold - dreegez
perhaps it would have been easier to do at workbench sync one of the times you had the carburettors of.
You wouldn't be as cold if you wore normal t shirts... love the content
Sounds great! High Five!
Thank you.
Wow, awesome Sound! 👌
What for an exhaust is this?
Greetz from north Germany!
This is just the standard shortys from dime city cycles.
Good video mate! Got a question for you if you don't mind.. is a gsx1100g from the 90's good for cafe Racer build?
Fantastic!! What was the final jetting you went with?
Thanks. Final jets were 17.5 idle - 87.5 mains, with the fuel screw at 1.25 turns out and the air mix screws at .25 screws out. (A huge difference from the 2 full turns out the book says for the standard air filter). Oh and I raised the needle by 2 clips.
Are the baffles installed on the silencers on this video or are these straight through? Thanks for all the helpful videos
The baffles are on these but I do have the option to remover them from the inside just with a screw,
Thank you so much for getting back to me! I'm building my 1980 GS550 right now and your videos are super helpful.
Hi, lean pops, have you checked that the intake rubbers between carbs and cylinder head are sealing ok.
Yeah, the intake boots were replaced with brand new ones in video 24, not the cheapest fix
Hi Being new does not mean that they where not bend on their way from the factory to you, just an ide to check them.
hey man, i want one of those built not bought shirts; i'll be in touch soon.
Great stuff, they're pretty popular.
Does the Colour tune kit come with different threads for the spark plug? Good video, so close.....
You can buy different colortunes for different spark plugs, and also if you buy the 14mm you can use added kits on that.
When you were finalizing the fuel screw and the air screw, what where the number of turns out for each?
Around 2 as a rule of thumb.
Love the page! Have a GS550 with all the same options here in Canada. Curious if you are adjusting the top(air) screw or the lower(fuel) screw as you go through the color tune? Also, what did you end up with for your main jet and idle jet? Appreciated!
Lower fuel I tend to leave at 2.5 turns out, I'm adjusting the top air here
@@forthebold Awesome thanks for the reply. Also I swear I'm not copying you but on Tuesday this week I picked up my first CX500! stoked for the build and to watch your next one.
Great video! How do you like those RFY Rear Shocks? I assume they are the RFYs because they are pretty popular right now...
So far nothing bad, but I haven't road tested these ones.
i have a GS750 that gets hung up at about 3k to 4k and adding throttle does nothing for a moment, then it surges the RPMS smoothly from that point on. I've been searching for the video (if one exist) where you give the results of the seal coat. Did it stop the leak?
No video in existence, but yeah, it holds.
another great video!
Thanks
Did you change the jets to suit the pods ?
mark h yeah that was in a previous video
Can't find anywhere that does a four into two exhaust for these, any ideas?
As standard they came with 4-2. You could modify the original like I've done here
You are awesome, thanks!
Thanks for watching.
What was done to the carbs after taping up the pods?
More videos in the series on jetting them. Most importantly by taping up the pods I figured out they were crap and put them in the bin for decent pods. The tape was only ever a test and never anything permanent. Should never be done
Brilliant. Thanks very much for replying. Excellent content. Thank you.
Sound great! How much was that color tune? Are you going polish or paint the engine? It looks like a battle ridden tank in a show cars garage.
I think it was around £30, not bad for an effective bit of kit. I'm going to give the engine a little polish but no more than I did in the first videos of the series, it's got a little dirty since then but nothing gleaming.

Yeah it is. I didn't even know they existed. That kit would've saved me a lot of headaches in the past. Thanks for the cool find.
Just ordered the gunson color tune for 12mm plugs, it comes from GB and worked out to about $51 US w/shipping
man it sounds fucking amazing! i love it lol
+Eddard Targaryen thanks ;)
Love it
Thank you.
So what is your background?
I'm a graphic designer.
can i borrow your color tune?
Sorry I never borrow an tools, a rule a live by.
Hi from Finland ! You think it's cold there ? Don't make me laugh LOL
Result
+Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions getting there slowly. Hopefully
Were you just conducting a symphony with all that hand waving in the intro 😂sorry man!
It's the Italian heritage in me.
we lost an EMS WORKER my small town, in her garage both overhead doors open working with her gas generator , fumes gathered in building needs to be outdoors so the wind can blow away, she was found dead. buy an exhaust hose for your bike run thru hole in door. ,
I have a rear door of that same size at the back luckily so the workshop is basically a tube with good wind going through, luckily ventilation and any bad gasses quickly go out the back. Plus all windows are also open.
i hope your ''wind tube'' functions well for you, BUT , the exhaust hose would also keep your ''heat'' in. , ''enjoy yr projects''
I may coin that term 'wind tube' now ;)
find an ''exhaust hose sponsor ; '' save a viewers life'' ha ha , carry on we love u
Hey bro
Hello
There you go again, teaching an old dog a new trick. Colour tune to be ordered directly.
I honestly have to admit that this is a learning curve for me also, never used one before, but talking to an engineer the other day he said he used to use similar ones all the time with his old Minis.
Motovlogs !!!!!!
Will be soon.
Sry but, visible popping???
Yah you can see a white pop of light with the sound in the colortunr
oh she sounds mean
Mean, needs to be tamed a little (synchronised)
speaking of synchronizing... will you be doing a video on syncing?
