Anthony Barrie This right here is exactly why I was a terrible person when I was younger and have worked so hard to become better. I used to be a greedy, cheating liar, and I have no shame in admitting it because going through depression and finding out exactly what it feels like to be given something I might have deserved has given me a reason to be better and make sure I am the best person I can possibly be.
I think that's the same reason rich people are greedy and dishonest and poor people are generous and wonderful. We know what it's like to be as far down as a person can go, and we know that to have a greed for other peoples' wellbeing is the best thing we could possibly want.
Carmenyoohoo You tried to portray yourself as a liar, cheater, etc., but your story reflects a golden part of you and I am not mistaken about it. You struck a chord in me.
Amitava Manna Thank you very much. I always try to affect as many people as possible. Pay it forward, you know? One of the most memorable moments in my life is when I was in a terrible depression and a man on the street, someone I didn't even know, came up to me and said "Don't worry, it's all going to be alright." He saved my life by saying that, and I've always hoped to repay the favor by inspiring someone else to do something similar.
(Sorry for the holy speech there! I'm on a bit of a high right now because I just decided to stop being a doormat and have already made my first step toward making it clear I'm not a living doll to be played with. Becoming an adult, woo!)

This was one of the most genuine, heartfelt things I've ever seen. The man who was holding up the sign has great things in store for him - it might take a little a while, but he deserves to have great things in life.

Pride is a good thing but it can also be destructive. Family is supposed to be there to share the good times but also the bad. We don't know this guy's story but it's so sad that he doesn't want to or can't lean on his family.
T Bone, I don’t know if it’s pride or fear. I had an aunt and uncle come to move-in with them to my home state after becoming suicidal and 3 weeks in the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. Because of what a VAMC nurse falsely told my aunt that I didn’t want her in the meeting with my provider, my aunt’s feelings were hurt. My uncle told me I had 4 days to get my shit and get out; and, they didn’t care if I killed myself. They later blamed me for choosing to leave on my own. I have lost jobs, been discriminated by employers including the federal government for military service. I’ve lost multiple relationships, including marriage and friends while on deployment, and afterwards. You never know what caused someone to be homeless or be afraid to reconnect with family. Maybe family has reached out to them but not with a helping hand. It took a while for me to ask for help when I was homeless. Being in the VA homeless program has hurt me more than it has helped. I had more Joy when I was homeless, primarily because I was in control, mostly, of who I let get close to me. Besides, I bet all of these people that seem to feel bad for the homeless guy don’t volunteer in their community to bring Joy to their family or community members that hardly have anyone to visit them and share the kind of gift that cannot be taken back-their Time and the Joys of Life. I continue my struggle for my own joy and value each day.

I’ve seen a lot of homeless Vet begging for money and I always give whatever amount I can give them which is not really enough to pay them back from what they did for me and my family and for this country. Think about it from the perspective of that homeless person, he's got no reason to keep on living, he is just trying to get some food, but really he has nothing what so ever. why wouldn't he try to help that guy? he knows that a child is everything for a parent so he helps, and I think that most of us would have done the exact same thing...

I know he isn't the only homeless person in the world but you should try and find him again and help him even more if you can, because he just did something no other homeless person would do for a stranger and I think that if you manage to get him a job somewhere he would basically have a new start. how can this guy not have a decent place to sleep and shower, obviously he seems extremely honest, also he doesn't seem to have a drug problem since he sat there for hours without wanting a fix! I am sad and confused how he isn't working even at a place like McDonald's unless he is under age than the social services aren't doing their job.

ALL people need to be more like this. Though my short attention span and boredom can be blamed on ADHD, I can usually entertain myself with things like PlayDoh, or putty, or even a stick. Yes. I can be entertained by a stick.

It's amazing, ADHD is. We can be entertained by dirt, which to most people isn't all that amazing, yet most of the time focusing in class is almost impossible. I think class or school would be a lot more entertaining than dirt to most people, but IDK.
