Worm drive hose clamp? (The ones you don’t use on radiator hoses as self tension genuine are best). Another option is Stainless Steel single strand wire (approx 2mm dia), wrap around twice, then use pliers twist as you pull hard, gives it a neat even twist.
easy fix options - circlip and some spacer washers - clean it all up and a big dose of sicaflex on the circlip side when it is protuding ( bit like a "sicalex fillet weld around the pin - Your split pin idea is good, but worried about drill access??
John, while the metal round end is protruding out of the chassis your idea looks the easiest fix. Sicaflex would keep it from moving back especially if there’s a circlip and spacer washers involved.🤓👍
I put a metal cable tie around it from Bunnings and it stopped it moving Forward. I didn't use the plastic cable tie because they break down from heat.
One thing I learned with my 4lt, if you replace one idler pulley for the belt, do them all. Initially I replaced one with a noisy bearing and it would throw the belt in 200km, replaced the rest and baddaboom!
