One thing to note is that doing this method you will probably chip some aluminum from the inside. I think this is better method because you wont risk messing up the seal from the outside. Make sure you clean up the bits of aluminum from the inside, if you have any.
Yoo how did you know it was fucked up?recently rebuilt my motor and I got no pressure and no oil comes into the filter housing,and when I pour it in the filter housing it just drains
You’ll know its messed up when you start pressing the valve and it is seating crooked or you can pour oil onto the valve and see it leak you have to remove the oil filter housing to check this for sure.

Did you get p0011 before ? I’m guessing the vanos is not getting oil because it’s getting drain faster than being pumped
I didnt get a code at all for me i noticed upon startup the idiot light would come on for 3 seconds with lifter tick and then go away
