This genius was way ahead of his time. Tackling social issues 40 years before it became fashionable and risking his career to do so. Listen to Mercy Mercy Me, Inner City Blues and What's Going On to hear his messages.
I was lucky enough to live across the river of one of the greatest rock'n roll cities, Detroit Michigan. Producer's of the likes of Bob Seger, Ted Nugent and ALL the act's from MOTOWN! These giants would come to Windsor to try out their stuff and tune their act's before going on the road. On just about any given weekend you could see any of them at a local bar, club or high school. We were so blessed. To boot the local radio station "THE BIG 8", CKLW was playing their records. Those days are gone but youngsters like yourself are now finding these gems of music. A time when you HAD to have talent. Looks really didn't enter the picture (but it helped 😆). No autotune, just pure singing talent. Thanks for dredging them up. They ALL had a message. Great reaction!
As an aside, I think the group backing him are The Funk Brothers and that's James Jameson playing the bass. They were THE group who did all the sessions at Motown. They used to play in local jazz clubs around Detroit.
No young fellow. You weren't watching a movie when you look into the video. You are watching how things used to be years ago. We didn't have cell phones. We didn't have computers. When we didn't have all this materialistic junk. We had to go outside and play and makeup games. That's what you watching. You watching our families used to get together and come together back in the day. That's how I used to be. I lived in during those times I lived all these experience that you seen the videos.
Marvin Gaye, what can I say, I loved his music, and I was so heartbroken when his life ended. His birthday is 7 days before mine. Man he could sing!!!!
