- An introduction to the eight tones of Byzantine Chant, taken from Professor Cutsinger's USC honors course "Mysteries of the Christian East". The syllabus for this course can be found on his website: www.cutsinger.....
Actually the enharmonic scales are the ones that sound most harmonic to western ears because they are only scales that really consist of half tone steps and whole tone steps. The diatonic, hard chromatic and soft chromatic scales can in fact not be shown on a piano keyboard.
This is genius instruction!! Exactly the clarifications I was seeking and found.
Tone 1 00:01
Tone 2 03:45
Tone 3 07:15
Tone 4 10:13
Tone 5 13:57
Tone 6 17:36
Tone 7 22:39
Tone 8 25:57
Utterly, utterly brilliant. So imaginative and informative.
I have gotten so much from this teaching. As far as I can tell-and I’ve looked-this is the most concise instruction on the tones anywhere. I would only enjoy it more if there were more! Thank you!
This is phenomenal. It’s the best way to learn ❤!
Completely in agreement!!!
Thank you Dr. Cutsinger, for everything. You are sorely missed 😔
