Spent this week in St. Pete Beach with my family. Tropical Storm Fred was supposed to hit there Sunday as we arrived and Grace was supposed to hit just before we left. Both storms took unpredicted paths elsewhere. Great for family activities, but was looking forward to seeing what treasures the storms might churn up for me as I brought a detector with me this time. You are right...trash everywhere, but I had a little luck when concentrating on only the good sounding targets and brought a couple of rings back to MN with me. Hello, Gary keep writing those books, Hardcore beach hunter great read worth every penny I paid. So I ordered your How to read the beach just got it today. Its looking good. I been land detecting for over 30 years and the last 3 years digging in the water and picking gold up just about every weekend. Yes, gold rings and silver 30 years ago people wore gold not tungsten or Titanium. I hit the old swim holes on rivers, lakes streams you name it. But when it come too the sea I lack knowledge. For an experience hunter your books are a valuable to me. I moving down to the treasure coast in Oct. and plan on some hardcore beach hunting following Terry Shannon leads. So move over Big dog, this little dogs retired and can walk to the beach. Thanks Gary!
Good video Gary, thanks for the tips.,,,wish the beach was closer! We inlanders have to hunt the areas the Spanish Treasure originated, (Years ago, Mel Fisher showed up in our back yard after discovering the Attocha. The rumor was that he found a map on a slab of silver sealed in a canon barrel that showed the origion of the treasure. A friend of mine has a silver bar that has the same siglets as the Attocha bars. That bar was found on Hoyts Peak in Utah ) I have some ideas about all the big river crossings the Spanish had to make along their trek to the Spanish Main...not ship wrecked, donkey wrecked!
Hey Gary got a question. I’m in Florida as well. What metal detector would you suggest that’s under a $250.00 budget. I want to take my 5 year old daughter to the local parks and search but I also want to be able to grab it for myself and go to the beach and hunt. More or less I would be interested in gold, silver, coins and jewelry. I’ve gone hunting before but with a cheapie unit. I love seeing my daughters face light up when we find things. I really appreciate your time and input.
My step daughter moved to the west coast of Florida but she hasn't been able to go to the beach due to red tide closures. Does that affect your area? Do you detect the beach is there's a red tide? Thanks for the tips! Love them.
Yes it affects us on the eastcoast usually between Jupiter to Fort Pierce. (Martin County -StLucie county) Usually we get it worse. It's a major problem for the state and has been for decades.
@@johnathoncastro can you detect the beach? Or is it dangerous too? Here in Maine were get a red tide once in a while and they close the flats for clamming.
@@Downeastwaves It doesn't affect the beaches too much mainly certain rivers and inlets. Sometimes the beaches will close down but im pretty sure that just means for swimming. You may still be able to walk and metal detect. There's so many beaches that you can easily find another to detect if certain beaches are closed for red tide.
