A good technique for the larger fish is to walk backward to bring it towards the beach and reel in the line while slowly walking back towards the water. It will save your arms and really help out if you have any arm/shoulder/back injuries or issues. I brought in a roughly 40-inch black drum doing it along with a few large rays, in the surf near Mustang Island State Park.

You got it! The rods that I use were 12 and 15 ft. ugly stick surf rods. Really one of the best brands to own.
