Amazing content as always!
Thank you! 😍
Nice lines, however, as French Defense player, I'm quite sure that I'm happy with those on the black side. If I can live with exchange French, I can live with this too :)
I'm not saying that these are bad for white, just another solid way to play it. Objectively, main lines, with Nc3 will always be best, though, it is much, much more work for club players to learn all the possible continuations than lines presented here. Here, if black knows what he is doing, he will go with d4, c5 push and have equal game. More space, but those pawn pushes do create targets and holes. If he does not know what he is doing, he can get bad position in no time at all.
Yes, of course, you're absolutely right. This is no attempt at an advantage, far from it, just a try to change the character of the position. It applies to both White and Black and this doesn't exclude that Black may happen to be comfortable in those positions as well. Bottom line, it's an interesting attempt to steer the game away from the usual French structures, nothing more, nothing less.
This is what I play! I’ve played 110 5+3 games on Lichess (Elo 1700 now after 3yrs) in this opening with a 58% win rate… 🤷🏻♂️🙏 I find it super fun!
Glad to have some statistical proof of the applicability of the variation! Thank you! :)
1700 after 3 years of playing?
@@Dav-chess What's your point?
@@michaeltellurian825 thats quite a long time
@@Dav-chess Well, maybe to you. But everyone learns at different rates, has different goals, plays for pleasure vs tournaments, has a job, current age, age when they started playing, and many other factors. Your comment serves no purpose other than to ridicule another person.
I have your 1.e4 Simplified course on Chessable and you recommended the Advance variation. I am curious why you chose this variation with the quick development of the two knights and not the Advance variation for this video? By the way, I really like your 1. e4 Simplified course.
I guess it's because people paid for his Chessable course, so it doesn't want to leak his recommendations. ^^
Thank you! Well, the Advance is analysed in my course, so it made little sense to duplicate the work here. In my videos I try to offer some less common lines, novel developments, that can serve one as surprising weapons.
Are you available for weekly lessons?
Unfortunately, no. But I can suggest a good coach. If you're interested, please email me.
I tried this against a computer which as Black played 2 ..c5 transposing the game into the Sicilian. Is this common and is it OK ? Thanks
That's possible, of course, but not many French players are Sicilian players - otherwise they could have played 1...c5 instead of 1...e6. :)
I like this simplified series much
Glad to hear it! :)
Thanks 👍
You're welcome.
I do that with 2. b3, but sometimes I ruin it for myself.
I was considering 2.b3 but I didn't like some ...Nc6 lines so I explored this.
@@gmalexcolovic The advantage is that it's not a typical closed French position. The disadvantage is that there are good lines for black. I call it my bad habit and it works at my level.
My repertoire is more complex and theoretical, but it's still nice to watch your videos for a change of perspective
What do you play against the French?
@@Daves0 Winawer, Steinitz, I'm always up for a theoretical battle :p
Very nice.
Thank you.
