exactly what I was thinking..... but the out of gas wont be cause he forgets to fill it like Matt... IMHO..... when that rig is working....... 28gal will go waayyyyyy to fast.. that is just NOT enough go juice for the job. Get a used big round diesel truck tank.... problem solved. Will look real damn good to have a round drum tank on it too.
Gee!! A "new" fuel tank for the snow cat!! Looks like it should get you at least a couple hours of run time! LOL!! No idea how long it will run but a lot longer than the 12 gal. tank you had before. NIce job mounting it too. I think maybe even some rubber straps all the way around where the hold down clamps go would be a good idea too. Oh yeah, and a ground wire for the static electricity thing.
Eric, I'm with you! Simplexity is a lost art. To your point, NOT everyone has access to cardboard, and the few I know that do, don't have any to spare - Can't blame them for that. As they say on the off-world...Tell me something unbeknownst to me! Thanks for posting and can't wait to see your winter adventures!
I'm a pretty big fan of Delrin. It works really well in between things that you don't want to rub together. Here in Washington state it's used on the pilings for the ferries to rub against as they dock. Always like to have a chunk around to cut up into various sizes and pieces of things
not throwing shade at the guys who just weld things together, I perfer things bolted on. It takes a bit more time but seems more homey built. Well done Mister. And Paint is always a good thing. Thanks for sharing and it's looking good and coming along quite nicely.
i used to do a lot of carpentry work noticed so many carpenters that were either left or right handed me being right handed. i started practicing every day until i got to where i could use either hand for most task like nailing and cutting really opened up a whole new world makes so many things so much easier now but took a long time but has been well worth it doing mechanic work
Look at a marine fuel tank from a boat chandler. They come in a multitude of sizes & shapes and include the sender units for a standard fuel gauge. Moeller makes a 50 gallon (Can) tank for example.
In Rory's latest video helping an old squarebody, that old fella had an 80 gallon fuel tank out of a Peterbilt. As others said, might be worth finding one from a wrecked big rig if the 28 gallon doesn't work out
What about an old refueling tank that would be in a pickup box for a fuel tank. Or even a 55 gallon drum. Hold more fuel than that little tank. I've seen some of those tanks local not go for more that $75 if no pump. And a drum for $10 or less clean. Barrel on side. Electric fuel pump from the bottom bung. Fuel filler from top. Love these build/refab videos. Don't have the needed time, money, energy, space, etc. to do one anymore. Keep up the good work.
Eric, I was born in Colorado. 50 gallons of gas in a 2 to 5-mile-per-gallon sno-cat isn't much gas! At altitude. Take the time to use a map and estimate your range of travel. You might want two of those 48 gallon tanks. Especially IN THE SNOW.
I am thinking here in the midwest most of my recoveries won't be too far off the beaten track, or recoveries off frozen lakes. So I might be able to get by with the small tank.
@offroadrecoveryteam Your choice, I was considering -40 and no gas could be deadly. You are certainly more aware of your situation than I've am and I trust you to stay safe.
you dont need no cad eric its old school your old school it matches although i do like it when you catch up to times like when you put the efi on the wrecker that was nice
I usually don't coment but I think it would work perfectly for your application bailer belt between the straps and I understand rust I'm from Michigan but I think it would be a good option
Idk if people get rid of them around you but fuel tanks for an oil burning stove pop up on Facebook marketplace for cheap around me pretty often. You'd have to clean it out really good, don't want to mix fuel oil / diesel and gas but it'd give you plenty and you have room for it...if the tank you have proves too small
Eric you would be proud of robbie he just pulled off his first off road recovery in his new wrecker. Gene were they running timed drags or bracket racing?
An idea for ya is you could use an auxillary diesel tank that goes in the bed of a pickup truck. Just dont put diesel in it of course. It may have to be vented but that wouldnt be to hard.
First off use that gas engine for a fishing anchor ⚓. Now we got that over with go and get a Cummins turbo diesel you can probably get a nice one at a salvage yard thier all over the place.
Try not to do a lot of metal shopping at the big Home Depot stores. I bought a 24" by 24" sheet of diamond plate it cost half of what a full 4x8 sheet would have cost. I have never bought metal from there again except for all thread rod.
Put a little bit of barsoap or candle wax on your cuttin disc, cuts quicker & disck lasts longer.... I cringed when i saw ya buying sheet metal...youre in the offroad ,you have to know welders.
Love the work in the shop and the recoveries. However, I feel the need to fast-forward past anything Gene is doing as it doesn't pertain to your original youtube content, which I have followed longer than Matt or FabRats. Eric, please keep your excellent videos separate from whatever Gene is doing as he should be producing his own videos and not piggybacking off you.
We had a Tucker Snowcat for our snowmobile club. It got 3-4 miles per gallon. It had a 318 motor in it.
I love how Eric goes old school in the shop
It’s refreshing to see the old ways still used
That snow cat is awesome. Can't wait to see it out in the snow
More sno-cat videos, woohoo. Just in time, its chilly today. Cant wait to see it in the snow.❤
Thanks a lot Eric, now I've been window shopping for a snowcat. I'll find a reason to need it later.
there is snow on the ground, found the reason for you.

Eric , if you run out of gas all the time you will know what Matt feels like !
exactly what I was thinking..... but the out of gas wont be cause he forgets to fill it like Matt... Eric's run out plenty of times, the diffence is he's not hours from service or help.
Besides an auxiliary diesel tank. You might be able to use a tank out of an old piece of farm equipment or even an old chevy dump truck.
Eric had the same idea for my scrap truck. Bolts for everything...till I ran out and had to zip tie everything. It worked good.

Had a 1973 John Deere 8430 tractor 4X4... 75gal fuel tank on each side ahead of the rear duals... 8 hours and it was time to fill up again.

Hey i have a red 1966 C10 like that one you showed in this video i put up a short video of it at a car show a few weeks ago

Could do a dual gas tank setup like old Fords and other pickup trucks had and you could just switch to the other one when you get low when needed
In Rory's latest video helping an old squarebody, that old fella had an 80 gallon fuel tank out of a Peterbilt. As others said, might be worth finding one from a wrecked big rig if the 28 gallon doesn't work out

I am suprised you do not have a spare filler neck at that dealership you are at, they arent much new, great video thumbs up, its really coming along

Great video, nice combination of work and play! Loved it!
Eric I like the way you do things the old school way that is a lost art that I wish more people did to be honest.
you dont need no cad eric its old school your old school it matches although i do like it when you catch up to times like when you put the efi on the wrecker that was nice

Good job
Looks mighty fine
Love the snow cat guys
I enjoy your 'in the shop' videos.
Fits like a glove
Old school - figuring : ) ..... OUTSTANDING : o ....

Thanks for making
We use to make gas tanks for combines and anything else that was square
Just mount some snow shoes or cross country skis to the back and the 5 gallon gas can so if you run out the wife can go get you some more gas.
keep the clips coming
Yes. You need a bigger fuel tank. Good job 😊
Shoot Eric ain't nothing wrong with that buddy looks great
Should find ya a good simi truck fuel tank, cause with the drive systemon that unit it's gonna suck some fuel
Eric you would be proud of robbie he just pulled off his first off road recovery in his new wrecker. Gene were they running timed drags or bracket racing?
Timed drags. Lots of 11’s and the fastest a 8 at 164 mph. All these cars, aerodynamic like a brick. Times were pure horsepower. Great fun
@@genedwg6689 an 8 not bad ,glad you had a good time gene. Be safe and have fun out there.
An idea for ya is you could use an auxillary diesel tank that goes in the bed of a pickup truck. Just dont put diesel in it of course. It may have to be vented but that wouldnt be to hard.
You should get a inbed tool box with a built-in gas tank for it that way you get a gas tank and storage!
Eric did you change title of your channel to recovery team ? Nice , good Job 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Look into a fuel tank from a transport they are normally not to expensive used
Eric, Sir, was that yellow tool both a cutter and a grinder you used on the steel sheet?
looks like tje original was a tank lile the one on reefer containers that go on the trains
Tank should be edequate, not like you're driving it hundreds of miles non-stop. Loved the nostalgic drags.
First off use that gas engine for a fishing anchor ⚓. Now we got that over with go and get a Cummins turbo diesel you can probably get a nice one at a salvage yard thier all over the place.
Sell it to Matt if you run out of fuel alot it's right up his alley
get a truck bed tank and add a transfer pump to fuel on the trail
That will get you started at least till you find something bigger
I think that Mercury Monterey just became my dream car
Does seat cover work part time?
There has to be a wrecked semi some where near you, there you’ll get a tank
You should have built a cradle for a 55 gallon drum that would be easy and about the size you want and affordable
And it already has 3/4 &2" ports fill and feed
Only pipe fitting to install
Ah yes, all the technology, CAD programs and Cardboard!!!
Looks kinda a combined tank
Eric, you're going to be in trouble when Mara sees this and finds out you were working on the Sno Cat instead of her wrecker. 😂
He was working on her wrecker. Didn’t you see what he hung the pieces of metal to paint?
Welding may be easier / faster now, but if you have to take it apart cutting the welds free won't be fun.
Try not to do a lot of metal shopping at the big Home Depot stores. I bought a 24" by 24" sheet of diamond plate it cost half of what a full 4x8 sheet would have cost. I have never bought metal from there again except for all thread rod.
Maybe find a semi trucks diesel tank, aluminum so won't rust.
just remember it uses 2x under heawy load..
Why would you get such a small fuel tank
Nope crazy about chevelot's
Winter is coming lol
You didnt blow, tack and static it. lol.
A lot more enjoyable when your doing thinks by yourself, instead of 3 or 4 others putting in there 2 cents worth.
Oh yeah Eric go and get you a marine tank out of an old boat 🛥.
What with that size tank are you trying to be like Matt, lol bahahahahahaha
A lot
And half the weight.
Umm i care about a squarebody! I'll take a square over anything!
Gday guys
if u need a bigger tank get a tank streacher lol yes i no i can.t spell
Put a little bit of barsoap or candle wax on your cuttin disc, cuts quicker & disck lasts longer.... I cringed when i saw ya buying sheet metal...youre in the offroad ,you have to know welders.
