Maah e Mir was amazing movie, The way Fahad read "Hai Naam Majlison Mein Mera Mir e BeDemagh" is very heart touching. I never once doubted that he was not Mir.
Ufff… Sarmad sahab’s insights on culture and colonialism really hit close to home. That is exactly how I feel. It is how the British robbed so many peoples around the world of their culture. If only more of us understood the significance of this insecurity that colonialism has marred the subcontinent with.
As an English person who literally grew up with Indians and Pakistanis friends since primary school, I’ve had the pleasure of being exposed to your SE Asian culture, from your ramadan to Diwalis to individual customs pertaining to Muslim or Hindus, Sikhs! My fascination lead me to teach myself Urdu as I’ve often heard poetry recitals and Qawalis at friends places and was curious enough to want to know more! I do agree that European colonialism has had the awful legacy of racism, and we are seeing this translate against Palestinians, by western leaders! However the ongoing European colonisation of people’s minds is harder to overthrow, just look at Indians following Modi and in support of Israel!! Or how black American officials are used do the dirty work of being lie tellers about Gaza/ Hamas etc! Going back to Urdu, it’s such a musical poetic language and I’m often amazed that many of your actors do not speak it well or read their script in the Roman script format! I find myself questioning much that I had been taught at British schools British history, colonialist perspective, and I truly feel many people are awakening to the subtle and overt racism from our colonialist past! I feel humbled to have known wonderful Pakistanis who introduced me to your culture and music, poems, which spurred me into learning your beautiful language!🌹
