Narsingh Temple is a popular temple in Joshimath. Famous as a part of Sapt Badri, Narsingh Temple is also called as Narsingh Badri Temple and a sacred place to visit in Joshimath. The deity of the temple is fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Narsimha Avatar), in the form of half Lion and half man. Narsingh Temple is located in Lower Bazaar area of Joshimath.
Situated in the scenic district of Joshimath this temple is not only a popular tourist spot but is also an incredibly famous part of the Sapt Badri Yatra circuit. Also known as Narsingh temple the presiding deity at this temple is that of the 4th incarnation of Lord Vishnu i.e. Lord Narsimha, who is represented in the form of half lion and half human. Located in the lower parts of the lower bazaar region of the town of Joshimath, this temple attracts a huge throng of Vaishnavites and pilgrims from across India looking to offer their Darshan at this holy temple.
With the onset of the winter months when the temple Kapat of Badri Vishal shuts down for Darshan for a period of 6 months, the idol of the presiding deity of Lord Badri is then shifted to this temple at Joshimath. The idol is brought down amongst great celebration and dances and is placed right next to the idol of Lord Narsimha by the priests. The pilgrims on their winter char Dham Yatra or Panch Badri Yatra visit this temple to offer their prayer to the lord here which is more convenient since the entire region of Badrinath remains covered under a thick layer of snow.

जोशीमठ के प्रसिद्ध नृसिंह मंदिर में साल भर लोगों का आना जाना लगा रहता है और बताया जाता है कि यह मंदिर करीब एक हजार साल पुराना है। ठंड के मौसम में भगवान बदरीनाथ इसी मंदिर में आकर विराजते हैं, यह भगवान बद्रीनाथ की शीतकालीन गद्दी है। यहां उनकी पूजा-अर्चना की जाती है। मान्यता है कि जोशीमठ के नृसिंह भगवान के दर्शन किए बिना भगवान बदरीनाथ की यात्रा पूरी नहीं मानी जाती। इसलिए इस मंदिर को नृसिंह बदरी भी कहा जाता है।

नृसिंह बदरी मंदिर में भगवान की मूर्ति करीब 10 इंच की है और यह शालिग्राम पत्थर से बनी है। मंदिर में भगवान नृसिंह की मूर्ति एक कमल पर विराजमान है। भगवान नृसिंह के अलावा मंदिर में बद्रीनारायण, कुबेर, उद्धव की मूर्तियां भी विराजमान हैं। वहीं भगवान नृसिंह के राइट साइड की तरफ राम, सीता, हनुमानजी और गरुड़ की मूर्तियां भी स्थापित है और लेफ्ट साइड में कालिका माता की प्रतिमा स्थापित है।
मंदिर में स्थित भगवान नृसिंह की प्रतिमा की राइट हैंड साइड की भुजा पतली है और यह हर साल धीरे-धीरे पतली होती जा रही है। केदारखंड के सनत कुमार संहिता में बताया गया है कि एक दिन भगवान नृसिंह का यह हाथ टूट कर गिर जाएगा। जिस दिन यह घटना होगी, नर और नारायण नाम के पहाड़ आपस में मिल जाएंगे और भगवान बदरीनाथ के दर्शन नहीं हो पाएंगे। तब जोशीमठ के तपोवन क्षेत्र में भविष्य बदरी मंदिर में बदरीनाथ के दर्शन होंगे।
