@@4WheelKid I know you going to thank I'm a little crazy, but I have a JL W7 12 system in my car but I want more Bass volume. So,I was wondering if I could add this to my system for more Bass volume?
Listening to it with an actual speaker/subwoofer setup on my PC the difference was night and day. For a small 150W subwoofer that is producing really good, clean sound.
@@4WheelKid Demonstrating the bass response of one song, as you would know, is misleading. These subwoofers need constant adjustment depending on the song, and are not loud enough when there are people in the car and you are actually driving. They also cut out if you try put out any decent volume.
yeah I think it sounds great for something that fits under the seat! same here didn't need something big for this vehicle, wanted to keep a lot of space for camping. no problem!
This video helped ease a lot of my concerns over underseat subs and specifically mounting them under the driver's seat. 8 years later still making a difference! Thanks :)
Wow! that sub provides a bunch of sound that others don't seem to appreciate. To my ears it sounds quite fuller and wider toned. Instead of sound like it came from one or two speakers, it sounded like the sound was coming from the whole SUV. I love how it rumbled and thumped pleasantly in my own ears. it provides quite a more fuller tone, with only being slightly less natural (less natural is better in this case). The dang thing sounded incredible. Good work, Kenwood.
This is great review. I recommend to everyone to listen with headphones in. I can totally hear the difference and I have to admit it does sound great. I was really doubtful about the Underseat subs but now it’s looking quite promising about me getting one 😊 so thanks!
+james randy hmmm it will be difficult to do an installation video since it is already installed. i wish i would have done one when i installed it. i may be able to make a video showing how i installed it though. the subwoofer comes with a harness, the yellow cable will go to the positive post on your battery, the black wire will go to the chassis ground (most metal in the vehicle is grounded so like a small bolt will usually work). then there is a blue/white wire this is the remote turn on wire. this needs to be connected to a power source that is only powered when the car is on (like a cig lighter, power outlet, or the remote turn on wire for your stereo). this is so the subwoofer turns off with your vehicle and doesn't drain your battery, next is your audio input, this subwoofer comes with speaker level inputs (white/black, gray black, black, white wires that go to rca inputs). these wires will have to be spliced into the left and right speakers (doesn't matter if the are front or rear). you can also get an rca cable (not included) for a low level input this will plug right into the back of an AFTERMARKET stereo if you have one. splicing into your vehicles wiring may void a vehicles warranty, i know in my country it only voids warranty if the aftermarket parts caused something in the vehicle to malfunction so if i spliced into the speaker output wires, and the speakers fail because of faulty wiring then they don't have to warranty fixing the speakers but if the engine or transmission fails they still have to warranty those because splicing into the the speaker wires didn't cause those to fail... this is how it works in my country, but it may be different in your country, so check on your laws for where ever you live. let me know if you need any more specific info and i will try and make a video on how i installed it soon! sorry it took so long to reply i have been busy lately
This is one of the best review videos I've ever seen xD And your voice is so calming; no homo. Unfortunately I've already bought my Subwoofer, otherwise I may have reconsidered and started thinking about a compact build.
SOLD! I would have been happy to get the results you have in your unplugged test which is significantly better than mine, but very impressed with how it actually sounds
First video that came up from "Subwoofer review" search. Pretty cool i guess. i know nothing about audio so i can't really say much but that was really professional and straight to the point. Great job.
@bassisgood - Great video. I'm wearing headphones and I could clearly hear the difference. I also like the fact that the bass is clean and it is NOT rattling your trunk and door panels. Bass is about music which I'm glad you demonstrated.
Do you have 2 of these installed ( one under each seat ) or one is sufficient under the drivers Seat. I have a Toyota Prado and your video was spot on as I dont want to waste the space in the trunk for Amp, Box and the woofer Just contemplating bout getting one or two
i only have one under the driver seat, it's good enough for me. you could always just get one to begin with then get another later on if you want more bass
I already have subs in my pickup and looking for a little more bass but don't have the room. Is this Powered Sub really that noticeable ? or is it only noticeable In a non premium sound system?
gottcha, I would say it's very noticeable if your sound system doesn't have a lot of bass. if yours does it may not be worth it just depending on how much bass your sound system has already I know the newer bmw have pretty good bass as is. it's enough bass for me personally and I can't live without bass. I have gotten the rear view mirror to vibrate slightly a few times haha. but something of that size can only give you so much. the kicker hideaway looks interesting to not sure how it compares to this one though
Perfect video man, and the bass sample was surprisingly effective even in UA-cam. Been looking at this little guy for a few weeks, and I think this pushed me over the edge, so thanks!
bassisgood so you mean the remote? yeah I never use mine either. pretty much set it and forget it, right! I'm glad I mounted mine in the glove box too! Yo! you have another channel?! I think I subbed it already, I just need to spend some time on it!. Looks cool! Say off the beaten path, make your own!!! Have a great weekend!
XB Ok, thank you. I have been struggling with what to do for some bass in my crew cab 2016 Ram. Subs from CT, Sundown, Rockford, Kicker or Hifonics require different box sizes that are a pain to fit in a truck. I’m not really a “bass head” anymore so this might fit the bill. Is this sub ever over power or is it just adequate?
I'm just hearing distortion with my Denon earbuds that can handle down to ~40Hz, is that a dubstep track you're playing? The bass is better but not really moving much air, just look at the air freshener, and then the side mirrors don't move at all. I would definitely need more power than that for it to be worth it. Thanks for the review now I can look into something else.
yeah it's not going to move a lot of air it's small, it's also not turned up all the way. I got my air freshener to move just a tiny bit once with the right song haha
For such a small sub, it is pretty good. However, it lacks the really low frequencys a larger sub (say 10") can produce. It is excellent for the price though and i am happy with my purchase.
yeah that's very true. could never compare with a bigger sub and enclosure but it's not bad for what it is. it's nice it takes up no space but there are trades offs to everything haha
Tip, you're get much better viewing angles if you place the camera either at your eye level or slightly higher. Also, edit out the umms and uhhs from your video. It doesn't matter if there's a slight 'jump cut' as long as you remain in the same position while you shoot. Or in other words, quite swaying as you're recording dude!
no problem! thanks and it should be good for smaller cars won't be nearly as much bass as a big subwoofer and enclosure but I think it sounds really good and tight, and it takes up no room if it's under your seat which is nice
Very well done video and review! Thank you for playing something that has "Bass" for the test! I like Kenwood products, as they seem to always perform a little better than you expect, and solid build means they last. So after subscribing I would like to share some tracks to say thanks: Pendulum - "Witchcraft" (drum and bass remix), UA-cam channel "Be a Baddie like a Demon" - "Blowin' Smoke" by Xtra Terra (it's a song mix), and for a punch to the gut White Bat Audio - "Shin Godzilla". These 3 songs are the hardest hitting D & B tracks I know about and are great for testing any stereo equipment. If your stereo sounds good playing these tracks, then your stereo will sound good playing anything! Honorable mention: Headsplitter - "Welcome to Night City", and "Irving Force - "Violence Suppressor" (Gor FLsh remix). Violence Suppressor original mix is quite good too. Thanks for the review, $150 for an all inclusive Kenwood sub (nice controller) not bad at all and sounded pretty decent. I'm about sound quality/fidelity than crazy subwoofer SPL stuff. I have a Rockford Fosgate 10 inch R2D2 sub in my car, with a Skar sub box which is a very good box for 10 inch subs. The box well crafted with internal port and "Perfect dimensions/ cubic feet of volume" for a 10 inch sub. Does take up some space. Plus loved your use of "Velcro". 101 uses right? I love the shit! Thanks! Enjoy!
I also ended up buying purchasing this subwoofer for my Dodge Charger because of this video. Big difference. Wondering what is the name of the song/music?
nice! I'm still rocking this same sub years later in my 4runner haha music: Hands Way Up - Gunnar Olsen (intro) Brown Bag - Silent Partner (sound test)
I have this thing collecting dust for the past 2 years. It overwhelmed me to install it and I didn't had a radio with AC connection. I never knew I could use speaker input. Is it just as simple as cutting the speaker connector. Attach 2 extra speaker cables to it and putting them into the woofer? Just like that?
yeah pretty easy to do, just make sure to use the high level input harness, and make sure the polarity is correct when splicing it into the speaker inputs and you will be good to go
sounds good man! I just ordered a rockville SS8P under seat woofer/amp. Im excited to install it. Just looking to get a nice, clean, decent bass sound in my vehicle.
Great review! I have been looking at getting an active subwoofer for my truck, and you just impressed me with this one. I know which one I am buying now.
One of the best reviews so far on any of these small enclosure's sub's. Also great sound comparisons with great sound quality. Hard to tell with all of the cell phone quality videos plus i like the with and with out the sub. Thanks. Wish you could do this with the Kicker Hideaway.
thanks for the comment! much appreciated, I just wish I had more time to make more videos for this channel, hopefully this winter I will make some more. the kicker hideaway looks pretty sweet
Hi there. Can you tell me what head unit you have? And would you be willing to share the settings on the powered sub as well as the head unit? Great video! Thank you!!
they no longer sell the exact one but here is the new upgraded version which is basically it's replacment www.amazon.com/DPX505BT-Bluetooth-High-Contrast-Variable-Color-Illumination/dp/B09YJ2Z63P/ref=sr_1_6?crid=YDYKIR9G2O6T&keywords=kenwood+double+din+car+stereo&qid=1684706369&sprefix=kenwood+double%2Caps%2C252&sr=8-6&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840 the settings are more of a personal preference kind of thing, just need to experiment
I got four infinity plate speakers in my truck they sound amazing Now I just got a new car I'm planning to upgrade the system and use two subwoofer I have sitting in my room or maybe just get this powered sub to keep it low budge is hard to work and be at school the same time The struggle is real man lol
I don't have one on this sub but working on a video installing a big sub, it's basically the same idea for all subs, yeah that's a lot of money, it's not all that hard to do yourself if your willing to learn some new skills
It can work but you need a ac to dc power supply to power the amp. Probably better to get a non self powered version and run it off a amp on your home stereo
thanks you caould probably put what ever you want there, the clock gets a ground, constant power and switched power, I removed connector off the clock and spliced it into the voltage meter so it plugs into the harness normally
Has it overheated and shut off on you yet? I'm just curious because I bought them cheaper under the seat subs, and you tend to get about an hour and to him of mid-volume play, and then they just crap out on you for a couple minutes. I'm looking for something that will stay solid bumping when I'm driving on a 2 hour road trip. Will this do the trick?
Would be this work in the boot (trunk) of a small hatchback? Just want it to provide some warm low end bass for conventional rock and jazz. Front doors can only handle 5 1\4 splits.
On my sound system here at work, I can really tell the difference. Just listening on my iPad, you can’t tell a thing. That’s why I think is silly to play something over YT because most people are on their phones.

Great inclusion adding the with and without the sub test, most other compact sub reviews don't include it and we're here for the sound test
hey thanks for sure, sound test's are definitely a must
Listening to it with an actual speaker/subwoofer setup on my PC the difference was night and day. For a small 150W subwoofer that is producing really good, clean sound.

Thanks! Enjoy!
thanks so much for the kind words. still using this same subwoofer many many years later haha
I guess if u really want to hear the bass, use a subwoofer 🔊
exactly haha
yeah
Just plug a aux into your car..you will hear a difference
Perfect review man!
Thnks...love❤ from India🇮🇳
Glad you liked it!
Seems to be equivalent to an 8" 12 watt RMS 60 - 180 Hz woofer
probably pretty similar
I also ended up buying purchasing this subwoofer for my Dodge Charger because of this video. Big difference. Wondering what is the name of the song/music?
nice! I'm still rocking this same sub years later in my 4runner haha
music:
Hands Way Up - Gunnar Olsen (intro)
Brown Bag - Silent Partner (sound test)
@@4WheelKid Thanks for your quick reply!
cheers
:)
Nicce simple and no Nonsense video !
thanks!
i really couldnt hear a difference
gotta have that bass to hear the bass
kk that makes sense duh.......I'll play through tv not laptop
I have this thing collecting dust for the past 2 years. It overwhelmed me to install it and I didn't had a radio with AC connection. I never knew I could use speaker input. Is it just as simple as cutting the speaker connector. Attach 2 extra speaker cables to it and putting them into the woofer? Just like that?
Yes
yeah pretty easy to do, just make sure to use the high level input harness, and make sure the polarity is correct when splicing it into the speaker inputs and you will be good to go
Its wigger Wes y'all.......
lol
Late to the party but awesome review man thanks for the before and after sound test.
No problem! Thanks for watching
well done with sound recording ! way to go
thanks!
sounds good man! I just ordered a rockville SS8P under seat woofer/amp. Im excited to install it. Just looking to get a nice, clean, decent bass sound in my vehicle.
Thanks still loving this one many years later. Going to get an under seat for my van as well too save space. Hope you enjoy!
Would I need one under each seat ?
you don't need it but would give you more bass
Great review , makes me want to order 2 of these to put under my back seats. Not a fan of extremely loud bass so this is perfect. Thanks
thanks! 2 would be great, I would put another under the passenger seat but there is a blower motor under there for the rear heater. no problem
Great review! I have been looking at getting an active subwoofer for my truck, and you just impressed me with this one. I know which one I am buying now.
thank you! glad the video was helpful! mine is still working great in my 4runner years later
Thanks for this. I could definitely tell the difference playing the video through my home hi-fi stereo system with powered sub.
no problem, awesome it definitely helps to have some good audio
One of the best reviews so far on any of these small enclosure's sub's. Also great sound comparisons with great sound quality. Hard to tell with all of the cell phone quality videos plus i like the with and with out the sub. Thanks. Wish you could do this with the Kicker Hideaway.
thanks for the comment! much appreciated, I just wish I had more time to make more videos for this channel, hopefully this winter I will make some more. the kicker hideaway looks pretty sweet
Very well rounded system looks like a clean install and sounds great.
hey thanks, it does pretty good for what it is
Hi there. Can you tell me what head unit you have? And would you be willing to share the settings on the powered sub as well as the head unit? Great video! Thank you!!
they no longer sell the exact one but here is the new upgraded version which is basically it's replacment www.amazon.com/DPX505BT-Bluetooth-High-Contrast-Variable-Color-Illumination/dp/B09YJ2Z63P/ref=sr_1_6?crid=YDYKIR9G2O6T&keywords=kenwood+double+din+car+stereo&qid=1684706369&sprefix=kenwood+double%2Caps%2C252&sr=8-6&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840
the settings are more of a personal preference kind of thing, just need to experiment
oh and it looks like you can get it without the cd player now and saves some money
The subwoofer is fine but wats wrong with the clock in dash?
it's a voltage meter
Great review, does it just plug straight into the back of the cd player/radio?
thank you! if it's an aftermarket radio and with rca out then yes but you will still need to power from battery, remote turn on lead and ground
How does your test with it unplugged sound so good? My stock door speakers sound shit!
this vehicle had an upgraded audio option factory, then an aftermarket stereo really helped too
Great Review! Nice Edits and Content is very informative
hey thanks! i'm working on some new stuff
Even without the sub your system sounds good man what speakers brand are you running
they are stock speakers, with a kenwood double din head unit, the head unit made a huge difference!
yeah not planning on replacing them haha, nice that looks like the updated version of my kenwood headunit
gottcha, I never turn them up to where the amp will start clipping, If I did blow a speaker out I could always make an install video!
I got four infinity plate speakers in my truck they sound amazing
Now I just got a new car I'm planning to upgrade the system and use two subwoofer I have sitting in my room or maybe just get this powered sub to keep it low budge is hard to work and be at school the same time
The struggle is real man lol
Subbed...great video. Quick noob question: will this cause power drain issues, dimming lights etc?
hey thanks, and this one won't it's pretty small and doesn't pull a lot of power like a bigger setup would
Is there a vid on how you installed ? Halfords wants to charge over £100 for 1
I don't have one on this sub but working on a video installing a big sub, it's basically the same idea for all subs, yeah that's a lot of money, it's not all that hard to do yourself if your willing to learn some new skills
bassisgood yaay can’t wait! Girls can do cars too 😉
nice! anyone can do it, just takes some time to learn
great review.... I'm getting one for my 2015 Hyundai Elantra... thanks to you bro...
hey thanks! awesome its a pretty sweet compact subwoofer
I read somewhere that these things can be used in home audio set ups. Any idea how that would work?
It can work but you need a ac to dc power supply to power the amp. Probably better to get a non self powered version and run it off a amp on your home stereo
Hey bud. I have an 02 4runner and I noticed where your factory clock is located that it appeared to be a voltage gauge. It that true?
yeah I just put a voltage display there and used the clock lens and connector, the clock was broken and I have one on the headunit anyway
bassisgood that is a great idea.
thanks you caould probably put what ever you want there, the clock gets a ground, constant power and switched power, I removed connector off the clock and spliced it into the voltage meter so it plugs into the harness normally
I also used the lens from the clock to and hot glued the voltage display behind it
Nice review bro! Do you think 2 of these will outperform the Kicker Hideaway?
thanks man and i'm not sure cause I havn't tried it, ill have to get under seat subs someday and compare them haha
Do you recommend this over the Rockville 800 watt?
not sure, never tried it, 800 is a lot more so probably a lot better bass
Has it overheated and shut off on you yet? I'm just curious because I bought them cheaper under the seat subs, and you tend to get about an hour and to him of mid-volume play, and then they just crap out on you for a couple minutes. I'm looking for something that will stay solid bumping when I'm driving on a 2 hour road trip. Will this do the trick?
I have never had that issue with this one. the name brand ones are usually better quality. it should work great
Would be this work in the boot (trunk) of a small hatchback?
Just want it to provide some warm low end bass for conventional rock and jazz.
Front doors can only handle 5 1\4 splits.
it should work no problem I would think
Jellybeantiger mine is in the trunk of my big ass sedan and it still reaches the whole car
On my sound system here at work, I can really tell the difference. Just listening on my iPad, you can’t tell a thing. That’s why I think is silly to play something over YT because most people are on their phones.
yeah that's a good point most people use phone speakers
