This is a really cool prop to showcase, because it's the kind of prop that a lot of people don't think about. It's not for a hero weapon, or a macguffin, it's for an every-day object that many people might assume is just a real bank box. But it's not, it's a custom piece designed to fit the needs of film aesthetically and practically (it has to look cool and hold all the things we see in the scene where Bourne opens it).
Great to see a well-edited Tested video that focuses on the actual building (the the drumming and SFX bits were ok but not what I am talking about here). I have had to skip through most Tested build videos in recent years. Thanks, Joey.
I love how excited you become and how happy you are to create these prop replicas. It's infectious. My favorite build is one I saw you talk about in a video some time back--the efforts you went through to create a replica Maltese Falcon.
Yeah, i am looking into starting a small collection of prop replicas, for example i have a friend of mine helping me track down a count dooku lightsaber as honestly he was my favorite of all the Sith lords and a chakram for my brother as he loved xena growing up
Just saw this and loved your ability to problem solve on the fly,it’s a testament to your experience. That said my ADD is jumping up and down about one detail, the lock. Your solution is great the only problem is that when locked it will not let the box sit flat on the end. That would not be acceptable to the bank as it wouldn’t fit with their image of being detail conscious people. The fix would be to make a thicker registration plate so the lock is flush when the box is locked. That set of the ADD as it would have been easy to bend the lid to bypass the lock. At that point I decided that I was over thinking it and remembered that you have to get in the bank then access the box in its vault then remove the box from its storage space only then would you be able to force it open. Most of the inner client boxes don’t have a lock anyway. I would just make a stiffer lid out of a thicker plate and set the lock flush in the locked position. (Had to get that out sorry)
Yeah that cat bit was hilarious, props to you guys. It is not the first time they do some hidden post production/editing joke. Please more of that! The only thing that bums me out is when you start and promise a multi part dinosaur build and suddenly it disappears after the first episode... hahah.

There aren't hinges in the other Bourne security box (but) there is 2 rod's, you can see them in the bank scene if you look closely , but GG's on alternate hinge solution..
I jumped to this video from listening to Joe Porter playing video game music on unusual percussion instruments and was very confused for a minute. Awesome build Adam, very much enjoyed watching it.
Fine custom prop making! But may I ask: did You notice that in the movie the lid is detachable and slid into place with two locating pins, so the lock keeps the (slid) lid in place. Please explain the Delrin Acetal comment from the video. I think you said off casting? I couldn't hear what it does very well on the video. Approx 9:00 min in. Very curious what it does in space.
Ordinarily I would think this is too nitpicky a comment, but your dedication to perfect realism calls me to action. If this is the bank box from Bourne Identity, why would Bourne already have a photo of him and Marie either in Mykonos or Goa, when he hasn’t even met her yet?
Absolutely a killer project, thanks! Having had some small experience with Swiss banks, though this was some time ago, I can say that key fobs varied in style and quality. One of the more elegant ones used antique replicas (I would assume) of actual original gold strong-box keys, which formed the fob itself. A gold keyring was attached to the handle of the key. It was a great look. Cheers!
This is one of the coolest videos Adam has ever done. Love the lock. If he learned tig aluminum welding, I'm sure he could have some blind rivets or screws for the hinge.

i feel like the screws through the top into the delrin would be a bit of a dealbreaker if i was building something similar. it just makes no sense having outside accessible screws on a safety deposit box.
