So happy you got to appreciate the writings of Rizal. He was really ahead of his time not to mention 100% correct. If only the Philippines had followed his advice, had gone onto the path of education, we might be better off these days. We doomed ourselves forcing the revolution way too early and got a government totally unprepared and ignorant of best practices Rizal and his contemporaries already learned on their travels abroad. It's a huge what if. His novels and poems are worth revisiting often
He really was an amazing person. So insightful and bold in condemning the abuses of those in leadership in the gov and the church at the time through his stories. Thx for watching and your comment!
I’m Filipino-American watching from Antioch CA 👋🏼 I’m so impressed with this vlog featuring our national hero Jose Rizal. Thank you so much for sharing to others thru this video your research on Rizal’s works and achievements 🙌🏼
Jose Rizal is a relative of mine. He is a great great grand uncle. I come from the Alonso family, his mother’s family. Rizal’s mother is a sibling of my great great great grandfather.
Wow that is so cool! Any additional insights you might be able to share about him? I know there are experts who have studied his life and I am a novice at best. Just so amazing to have a family member comment. Thank-you!
This is the reason why education is so important for Pilipino The best thing that I admire Philippines country although the government are so corrupt is at least the have a free education for elementary grade to give them basic learning is good enough for the citizens for this country and for the next generation.
I have been so impressed with the people I have met there. I have visited to teach about disability issues and the kind hearts I have met have been remarkable.
Thank you for your appreciation with the Philippine history by learning Dr. Jose rizal it is rare forieners learn it, it's the Filipino story of oppression.. Just correction of pronounciation it's No-li-me-tang-he-re ❤❤
Thank you so much! Most foreigners don't want to talk about the social and political issues of my country. My country was once peaceful and progressive before the colonizers came and destroyed our heritage as Filipinos. Until now the remnants of the past still linger in the face of our current government and in society. The poor became poorer and the rich became more richer. Where is equality here? More power to your channel. God bless.

I recently watched the biography on Larry Itliong the labor organizer which was fascinating as well. Off topic, I watch you and Josh and your travels, which are awesome by the way, and noticed that you are claustrophobic and acrophobic. How do you manage that?
Thank you for your kind words. I’ve made 3 trips there doing some teaching and have really enjoyed the people! Hero Dr. Jose Rizal and other heroes died for the country the Philippines, help save the country’s faith in God, beautiful nature, and economy from China.
The violent revolt Rizal was worried for happened anyway and it is seen as an important part of our history. We even view the people who led said revolt as heroes, too.
Jose Rizal was fighting for equality and wanted the Philippines to become a province of Spain with full representation in the Spanish Cortes. Not independence.
if this happen in the era of social media he would have been the Gandhi of the Philippines but the colonial powers then are more unforgiving. In Gandhis time the colonial Powers have already soften and media coverage is starting to get stronger.
Xi Jinping recognized Rizal's Chinese ancestry during his visit to the Philippines, and many Chinese people who know this claim Rizal as one of them. They didn't even recognize his borderline racism against Chinese people due to their mindset of taking advantage of normal Filipino people. It's sad because this behavior is still happening, and Filipinos can't recognize what Rizal saw about them
America chose this hero for the Philippines in 1901 as a safe bet over someone like Bonifacio who was more like George Washington who actually fought for independence in the battlefield. Rizal was more like Thomas Jefferson, in regards his roles in the revolution. The national hero should be one of the people, not some rich kid who writes about how unfair the world is to him as he travels the world spending his parents money. Rizal was never about Philippine independence and he didn't even care about the common indios. Rizal was fighting for the illustrados to be given equal treatment to the spanish.
While the novel itself was written in Spanish, the title is Latin. So the letter G in tangere is pronounced as hard G in Classical Latin (like the G in the song Gento by SB19), while it is a soft G in Ecclesiastical Latin (like English J)
Mi Ultimo Adiós is directly translated to "My Last Farewell". Because of his overseas travels, Rizal would often have to bid his family and country goodbye. With his impending execution, he had to say goodbye for the last time.
Dr.jp.rizal,my,eyes,open,wide,wd his novels and writings the, greatest advice s,compare d, teachings of pope to teachings of Christ, religion of Christ stand for christ(letter 2d young women ofmalolos 1889)
His older brother, Paciano, was a student to one of the martyred priest. He was sent to study in europe to keep him away from rebel suspicion as what happened to his brother.
Rizal was revered in many parts of Europe where monuments were erected in his honor. It is unfortunate this brand of nationalism isn't inspired enough by educators in young Filipinos these days.
It's so unfair to be blaming young people for not being nationalistic enough, etc etc. older people should be the one blamed for failing to teach and guide these youth. Who are in power, who are the teachers, who run for offices, who are the voters if not the "older" adults.

The real Filipino Hero is: Lapu-Lapu and not Rizal. Why? Because Lapu-Lapu was the first Filipino who fought for the Philippines 🇵🇭. He was the first one who said NO to the Spanish Oppressors
Nahhh.. In Lapu Lapu's time, there are many Kingdoms in Philippines and it is not united as a nation yet. Lapu lapu was just a Datu who doesnt want to be converted into Catholicism because they have their own belief systems.. The "Filipino" only existed when the Spaniards occupied the Las Islas Filipinas.. and the "indios" of the Philippines that includes the mestizos is the one who first called themselves and identified themselves as Filipinos.. so technically, Jose Rizal is one of the Filipino Hero.. and the Philippine Government still cannot agree who is the National Hero because there are different people who gave their lives so we could have our freedom.. that is why, Lapu lapu, Jose Rizal and many more that you learn in Philippine History are consider as Philippine Heroes..
Just to add, Rizal didn't want independence but just want early Pinoys be treated as equals by the Spanish government. Back then, Filipinos are Philippine-born Spanish while Indios are the locals.

As do we in America.
Jose Rizal preceded Gandhi and Mandela as the first national heroes that were not warriors, soldiers or fighters.
A lot of truth in that. I also see him in a similar way as Dr. Martin Luther King.
