So happy you got to appreciate the writings of Rizal. He was really ahead of his time not to mention 100% correct. If only the Philippines had followed his advice, had gone onto the path of education, we might be better off these days. We doomed ourselves forcing the revolution way too early and got a government totally unprepared and ignorant of best practices Rizal and his contemporaries already learned on their travels abroad. It's a huge what if. His novels and poems are worth revisiting often

This is the reason why education is so important for Pilipino The best thing that I admire Philippines country although the government are so corrupt is at least the have a free education for elementary grade to give them basic learning is good enough for the citizens for this country and for the next generation.

Thank you so much! Most foreigners don't want to talk about the social and political issues of my country. My country was once peaceful and progressive before the colonizers came and destroyed our heritage as Filipinos. Until now the remnants of the past still linger in the face of our current government and in society. The poor became poorer and the rich became more richer. Where is equality here? More power to your channel. God bless.

My gf is Filipina & I've spent time in the PI as a young sailor. The history is fascinating. I recently watched the biography on Larry Itliong the labor organizer which was fascinating as well.
Off topic, I watch you and Josh and your travels, which are awesome by the way, and noticed that you are claustrophobic and acrophobic. As I've aged I have become more uncomfortable in close settings as well. Caves. MRI scanners etc. I'm worried I may have a problem with flying. I haven't flown in quite a while but would like to. Xi Jinping recognized Rizal's Chinese ancestry during his visit to the Philippines, and many Chinese people who know this claim Rizal as one of them. They didn't even recognize his borderline racism against Chinese people due to their mindset of taking advantage of normal Filipino people. It's sad because this behavior is still happening, and Filipinos can't recognize what Rizal saw about them

  • @MsBakyamoneneng

America chose this hero for the Philippines in 1901 as a safe bet over someone like Bonifacio who was more like George Washington who actually fought for independence in the battlefield. Rizal was more like Thomas Jefferson, in regards his roles in the revolution. The national hero should be one of the people, not some rich kid who writes about how unfair the world is to him as he travels the world spending his parents money. Rizal was never about Philippine independence and he didn't even care about the common indios. Rizal was fighting for the illustrados to be given equal treatment to the spanish.

While the novel itself was written in Spanish, the title is Latin. So the letter G in tangere is pronounced as hard G in Classical Latin (like the G in the song Gento by SB19), while it is a soft G in Ecclesiastical Latin (like English J)

Lapu lapu was just a Datu who doesnt want to be converted into Catholicism because they have their own belief systems.. The "Filipino" only existed when the Spaniards occupied the Las Islas Filipinas.. and the "indios" of the Philippines that includes the mestizos is the one who first called themselves and identified themselves as Filipinos.. so technically, Jose Rizal is one of the Filipino Hero.. and the Philippine Government still cannot agree who is the National Hero because there are different people who gave their lives so we could have our freedom.. that is why, Lapu lapu, Jose Rizal and many more that you learn in Philippine History are consider as Philippine Heroes..
