@Reichsbannerschwarzrotgold1924 so basically one day a few months ago I was bored and had the idea to remove all the npcs from the plaza map from hl2 map in hammer (the source engine map editor). So I did and idk what I felt but it felt off. So I decided to create a cfg file that removed every npc. I did that and made a video on that (its on my channel). In the video I said that I would make it a mod. I was gonna release just the cfg file but I thought "why not change the maps so it isn't a half asked job and the lighting looks good" so i decided to do that and here we are
You know something is there, you just can't see it. Or rather, it doesn't _want_ you to see it. But it's more than happy to simply observe you from the darkness.
Subnautica kinda does that, it gives you hope that someone else is out there only again after again are you disappointed that everyone died on the planet, and you are the only one alive on an alien world with oceanic horrors that have the primal urge to hunt prey, and that prey is you.
"Gordon is no longer needed, so i have had to... put him.. somewhere else, but, he is, still, out there", G-man said to Alyx Vance, who responded nervously "Where, where did you put Gordon, tell me right now!!!!" to which G-man said "You will... seeeee..." In an instant, a flash of green energy surrounded Alyx and everything went black... It had seemed like Alyx had been asleep for days, she could feel the brisk russian cold on her cheek, and perhaps could have heard chatter in the distance. As she opened her eyes, she saw the blue seat in front of her, and the window to her side. But wait, why was she even here? She didn't quite remember what was happening just before, considering the somewhat hypnotic state she'd just woken up in. Alyx stood up from the cold seat and observed the cabin. The strangest thing was that, there was no one there, no one at all... The last time she was ever in a place like this, probably on some resistance mission, she remembered dozens of people. "How long have I been asleep?", Alyx thought to herself, as she walked out of the cold cabin of the metro train, hoping that she would see at least somebody. Sadly, Alyx's hopes were quickly crushed and replaced with a calm and dour atmosphere, as if she would be here, forever, alone to ponder. "But wait, what is with this mood! How could I have been thinking this way, I know nothing of where I am!", Alyx thought. This was probably just some sort of abandoned city, Alyx continued out of the metro... It was a couple days after that strange event, Alyx's temporary amnesia seemed as if it were cured, and she could finally remember those events. She had still not found anyone, but remembered that G-man implied that Gordon was here, perhaps, if she could find Gordon, she could discover the key to escaping this place, or at least be able to live out the rest of her days in this place alone. Actually, wait 'rest of her days'... Alyx realized, this doesn't make sense at all! Nothing made sense here, nothing felt real, was she 'Alyx in wonderland' or was she dreaming! But no, she couldn't have been dreaming, how did she almost forget, G-Man had trapped her here!
I think the part where you pick up the baby doll at the playground is the worst part. Not only is everyone gone, but even the memories are gone. The lives of every single person that has ever lived there has truly become forgotten with history itself.
i thought it was a really cool detail in the mod because i picked it up expecting it to play the sound effect when you pick it up normally but when i picked it up and heard nothing i was like woah, ive made a half-life 2 map with that doll in and it's actually pretty complicated to get it to play that sound so that fact they changed the map to not have the sound is pretty good attention to detail.
Its not related to half life, just a similar thing. I was once messing with map editor in C&C Generals, made small empty map with bunch of random units, and one of those units didn't have any sounds when ordered to move. It was actually mildly horrifying. In that game(series), you are *used* to the fact that units *always have some voicelines, engine revving and etcetera, and once you have a unit under your control which is completely silent, its just wrong, wrong on fundamental level* @@RewRew_zerothree
Isn’t combine more like waiting for Earth to reach a 100% cooperation before providing them with any actual goods and turning off the suppression field? Like, in Alyx people live better, then Alyx destroys the G-man containment facility and human species is faced with the oppression because the combine wants to sanction them for misbehaving, when the misbehaving is gone they would allow for the left residents to begin reconstructing their home planet because at this point they are going to bee 100% loyal and would carry on the institutions of the human society but now with the full respect and support for the combine. Like, maybe my opinion is wrong because I view the combine as a Stellaris’s player controlled faction and that my impact my view on storytelling
Imagine if someone made a mod for hl2 where everything is abandoned and in ruins and resources like water, plants etc. Are totally wiped out. Playing that map would feel like this video but you would feel even more alone
Now this is a type of horror not shown too often. No monsters, No cheap jumpscares, No stereotypical horror tropes but one of the most terrifying concepts imaginable. Being completely and utterly alone in a world once filled with life and the player hoping for any sign of life even if it's just a headcrab jumping out of nowhere but alas none. There is a underrated horror game The Liquidators that dosent have any of those stereotypical horror tropes either but rather that if you didn't do anything the world would be doomed and to make it even horror terrifying that would have actually happened if the events of Chrynoble turned out differently.
Gman would do something like this too. Imagine an alternate reality where Gman uses another agent on another planet to destroy the combine or whatever, and he says "Thank You for your sssservices Dr Freeman. You are free to go." and he just abandons Gordon on Earth in an empty C17.
I think the scariest thing is that... There arent any bodies left behind to tell the tale. No corpses, no real signs of a winning conflict for either the combine or the resistance.. just the silence along with an occasional blood splat or two in areas where you would usually expect to see combat through a normal play through. and the environmental story telling utilizing the corpses to paint a picture or at the very least an interpretation. just dosent even feel like it exists in the first place..
Bad endindg: Gordon arrived too late and the Combine already took all earth resources and vanished mankind with the supression field. Now entire planet is empity, lifeless...
Such an eerie way to play hl2. Scary ambiences continuously play in the background despite the fact that no npc's are in sight. Props to the creator for making the mod.
Gordon has been teleported to hell. HE only grows more unstable like a ladder with no screws to keep intact, his mind grows into a mush of sight and the sounds of him. He grows restless. He rotts while wandering in an endless loop of the same places. But he isn't alone. Everything else ROTTS into just colour. Gman has teleported Gordon to a challenge made of fake everything. In reality. Gordon is dead, wondering a small cube of flesh until the end of time.
If you think about it… It does actually make sense. Remember what Combine was here for. Teleportation technology. And what did Aperture Science (which had the most advanced teleportation technology there) use for portals? Moon rocks. They stole the Moon for portal’s materials
That feeling... Of being watched. Im sure we have all had it, I certainly have. This video just feels... Well lonely. If i were here i would make as little sound as possible just to make sure i wasn't being watched. Normally when im alone i like some background noise just to make me feel comfortable like a UA-cam video or song. But there, i wouldn't make a sound. Not even speak to myself. Because if i was making noise i would fear that i would of missed the footsteps of the person or, thing lurking in the shadows behind me.
I would like to tell a small story of mine. It is not scary but it is more about how strange for some reason are feelings and memories. I was playing a Minecraft mod pack RotN (Rebirth of the Night, it is a good one indeed) and since the mod is based around the 7 days to die concept of a horde of enemies coming after you when come time passes I decided to build a giant box out of stone for protection. Even though I spent like 90% of the time in the cave under the house collecting materials for the construction of my house-fortress each time I try to recall the times I were outside I can’t stop the visualisation of looking at myself from the distance. Almost as if I am some herobrine looking at myself from the other side of the river surrounded by forest, I pretty clearly remember it even though that never happened, so real yet never happened. Btw I like that feeling, unique one indeed, makes me interested in how does my memory work
I believe the reason why emptiness is so scary is because you're not used to it. We've all played Half-Life 2 so many times we know every story beat. That familiarity isnwhat grounds us. If you were to wake up tomorrow and something fundamental about your reality, even if it has a negligible impact, you'll still get that uncanny feeling. "This isn't right". That is cognitive dissonance. And that is they key to good psychological horror.
on another video of a playthrough of this mod (just without the hl1 ending at the start) I remember a comment about how, in a weird way, the gman’s presence could be some small comfort to gordon when everyone else has vanished. But somehow, inexplicably, he’s gone too. There aren’t even birds or bodies there was another comment saying this would be better with background ambience, but I think it’s also unsettling in its own way with almost complete silence

maybe that’s why the video ended right there, both entanglement and our benefactors would be exactly the same, just without npcs, as the combine have their buildings well lit at all times
This shows that things can be creepy with out monsters or any jumpscares. It's the darkness and emptiness that make things creepy, It makes you expecting for monster or jumpscare to appears randomly, but as you keep moving, it's just nothing, not even a single headcrab jumping toward you.
@@RewRew_zerothreethis segment only works because almost all half life fans are heavily acquainted with the games already (what 2 decades of no hl3 does to a mf btw) otherwise that would just be unplayable on top of ruining immersion

The guy who would tell you to pick up the can is not there! this video is an absolute 0/10 That silly joke aside, seeing all the places without the familiar faces and voices is oddly saddening. Cool video though❤
I like to imagine this IS the true ending to half life 1, no combine, no rebels, not even a corpse in the barren tunnels, and deserted cities. just, a world, desecrated by time, and thus, the "free" man walks, alone. without anyone, or anything. just the air to breathe. and land to walk on. I think the fade out is gordon finally passing on, after hours of walking, breaking things, he reaches his resting spot, unshackled from the chains of life, as his body rots away from the cold, desolate earth, he reminisces about where hes been, and what hes done. an end to the one true, freeman.
This is what happened when gorden died the combine had enough they killed every single human and stripped every resource and left the planet abandoned this is the new reality of hl2
Such a simple idea with boundless possibilities and potential I hope the peoples of the lovely community will keep making mods for the once in a life time game
I remember on the last day of 8th grade, we had a graduation ceremony. Most students got to go home with their parents. Me and a few others didnt. Staff didnt care if we wanted to explore the school one last time. I was walking through the halls and everything felt empty and bleak. Lockers without locks. Halls without students or staff. Classrooms without anyone inside. I felt a sense of dread, recalling walking those halls and bumping into other students. It was usually loud, but on that day, it was deathly silent. Eventually made my way to a classroom with a few students who i knew. We sat on computers and passed the time. Eventually class ended for the day. We walked outside to find empty fields and parking lots. No students running around. Just maybe 10 walking home or getting in a parents car. Never wished for that experience again.

From the creators of "We don't go to Ravenholm..." We bring you the long awaited 2nd installment.
56:51 the closest thing Gordon has to a conversation
HL2 with the society: find a way to destroy The Combine and save the Earth
HL2 without society: find a way...
2:36 sentimental about police brutality 😭
Pov: when my schizophrenia kicks in
"Where's everybody going? Bingo?"
The Portal soundtrack fits so good.
2:36 In all this time, no one has ever picked up the can
Dang, Gman let him sleep a bit too long. Humanity now lives in Gordon.
I don’t know about you, but I like it, you walk around on your own and just explore everything around, no one touches or disturbs you, although suddenly you’re not alone there
The portal music was the cherry on top. It really makes you feel alone
21:28 Never ever thought i'd say this but...i miss the manhacks.
C'mon Gordon!
You overselpt again?
The guy who would tell you to pick up the can is not there! this video is an absolute 0/10
That silly joke aside, seeing all the places without the familiar faces and voices is oddly saddening. Cool video though❤
literally the echo sequences from rain world except without the distortion and time slowing
После этого видео я стал бояться одиночества. Даже будучи в весёлой компании я боюсь что сейчас все исчезнет и я останусь один...
This is actually genuinely terrifying. Like normal, you would expect something, anything to jump out and scare you, but no. Just nothing
Now this is an interesting half life 2 mod, pure loneliness, and darkness...
i like how gordon put the soda can into trash can, not throwing it to combine that said"pick up that can"
the suppression field killed of the human race and Gordon just decided to save the world anyways
GMan is getting fired by his "employers" for gross negligence
This is what happened when gorden died the combine had enough they killed every single human and stripped every resource and left the planet abandoned this is the new reality of hl2
Good for The Freeman. He doesn't have to fight The Combine for once.
Only because he has nothing to fight for
Liminal life
When Freeman is too late:
This could have been a great creepypasta back in time
"Gordon, the game already has been completed. You aren't supposed to be here."
All of this because Gordon was minutes late to work one morning in black mesa
Self Esteem Fund was such a nice fit. The loneliness that song already projects matched so incredibly well.
"The right person in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world..."
plot twist: he's having his first dream in stasis
0:13 soundtrack from Portal(I like this music), you're well done what you made this video with game half-life 2, I hope you understand what I writing
What is the music called?
@@jojoelgamer3144 Portal Soundtrack - Self Esteem Fund
@@markshabokha2399 thanks
*Plot twist: Everyone went to a party, and they forgot to invite Gordon*
The sun vanished, source edition
At that point, I'd even take a headcrab as a pet like Lamarr if I were Gordon instead of being this alone
Freeman slept through the alarm clock
This is scary as hell. Like, there isn’t a threat, but just you and darkness. You think there is something, but really, there isn’t.
POV: You're the only who survived after the 7 hours war
Looks like Gman accidentally (or on purpose) sent Gordon Freeman too far into a future where the only one there to care about his presence is himself.
Gordon got transported into the liminal space universe 😔
