Very nice idea to seperate them like that with the rock, I wanted to have a ying and yang tank but my blackmoor and white shubukin keep mixing up all the gravel with their never ending foraging.
LOL. You should post a video of them. My Fairy Cychlids move some of the sand and white small rocks around but not much, and I have Danios and Leleupi in there that don't do much at all except chased eachother of course. Thanks for the comment !!
White sand might sneak through the gravel pretty quickly if the layer is not thick enough. Crushed coral has more weight to it but may raise your pH and hardness depending on your KH. I hope this didn't confuse you. Let me know if you need further clarification or have other questions. Thanks for the comment and hope you subscribe to my channel.
Dear Sir: I've kept shell-dwellers (Neolamprologus multifasciatus) so, I understand your desire to have a sand substrate. Be careful to avoid scratching the glass when you scrub off algae. I was hopeful that you would go with the black sand. Algae is less noticeable on a dark substrate. This is a terrific build and I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
I went with grey sand for my shell-dwellers. It was a mixture of black and white. But, even it looked bad when covered with algae. I would recommend black sand for cichlids that like to dig.
Dear Steve V.: The shell-dwellers I had were Neolamprologus multifasciatus. I had them before I began YouTubing. I tried to rid the glass of the algae between it and the sand substrate with a product called “Algae Destroyer,” because using filter floss tended to scratch the glass due to sand it picked up. Though I used the product as directed, it killed all the shell-dwellers. I returned the product to Walmart and I believe it has been discontinued. There is a fine, profile video of this fish on Prime Time Aquatics: ua-cam.com/video/LymOSgIcDss/v-deo.html Thank you for your, continued help and encouragement. Sincerely, Brinegar
I really enjoyed your video. I would love to do this. How is your tank doing now? Do you have a follow up video to show us your successes and concerns with this type of set up? Thank you for the video :-)
You can see the tank in the Baby Cichlid video. It does not focus on the tank but it is doing very well. Thank you for the comment. I hope you subscribe if you haven't yet 💕💕
So I built a live fish tank in to my fairy garden. First time I went all out and used aquarium sealant worked great !! 4 years later the plastic bin I used had been worn out; so time for redo. I tried using that silicon ... killed every fish I put in. I think it has a mold resistance built-in to this product. In my humble opinion ... I would only use aquarium sealant. Do you have an update ?
All my fish are fine. I use "GE All purpose silicone 1. It does not contain mold resistance which will kill fish. Also I use the clear kind. Color additives make the silicone less effective (because there is less silicone in it). Thanks for the comment and sorry to hear about your fish.
Yay this is exactly what I want will be looking for follow ups !! I’m starting a new 55 gal tank and I want to keep my lovely plants but am going to be hopefully able to find some geophagus and do a South American cichlids set up. How did this workout for you. I’m considering using some type of clear material as a barrier & adding hard scape to cover. I have subscribed and found you looking for exactly what you’ve shown. Thank you sir for all the info😊❤️
This is exactly what i had in mind . Thank you for passing down the knowledge
I'm planning a scape using gravel and sand. You gave me some good food for thought so thank you!
Looks really nice!

Can u use sand and a led bubble wand? Or will the air blow it away and expose it too much?
I'm thinking bout putting a layer of white and on top of black and blue gravel any THOUGHTS

Can aquarium plant roots grow sideways?

We will see how it goes. Maybe I will switch it out. I almost did black sand, but wanted a more natural look for this tank. Thanks for your insight.

What kind of Shellies do you have? Have you done a video on them?

I prefer gravel. Just seems easier to clean to me👍👍👍👍
It certainly can be easier to clean. Thanks for your input and for watching.
Do a video with the new fish in the tank
I uploaded a video with Fairy Cicvhlid fry in the tank. Hope you can watch it. Please consider subscribing if you haven't yet.
Nice to meet you!I don't know much about fish, but let's communicate!🤗🐠🐺💕
Thanks, Please consider subscribing if you haven't yet.
Problem is that cichlids will constantly sift through the sand and it will be displaced. Great idea though.
Looks good " NEW SUB") I'M THE SAME WAY BROTHER
