I'm from the Netherlands. Around 1960 I did watch the excellent weekly German documentary about the development of the Nazis in Germany from 1918 till 1945. Living at 10 km of the German border, we did receive German TV Transmitters. What I see now in the USA is frightning close to what I learned from the documentary in 1960.
America has a very serious problem with single-issue, poorly informed voters who will at least tolerate if not welcome FASCISM. That is fatal to the country.
@philipcollier7805 America having many "poorly informed voters" is a symptom. If we look further, we see they were never educated in HOW to learn, HOW to check "alleged info," HOW to be discerning, etc. Also, their intolerance comes from (is a symptom of) their poor education. When I say education, I'm not talking about "degrees", but "how to think clearly", "how to use intellectual hygiene (remove 'garbage' ideas from your head)" -- the kind of education we *_should_* get in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Blame our educational system. We don’t teach civics anymore, and kids don’t really learn History, they’re just interested in their grade point average.
My mother lived in Europe during WWII. She told me several times about how the tone of right wing broadcasters, starting with Rush Limbaugh, mirrored Hitlers tone and rhetoric in his speeches.
My SIL, a naturalized citizen from Russia, is quite alarmed by the rhetoric as well. He's heard it before.... Until Trump, he was a Republican but now he's completely against the current party.

When I was a toddler, my father would make me sit on his lap at the family computer while he listened to Rush Limbaugh. He tried very hard to indoctrinate me into his views, going so far as to drive me to school without my mom in the car and fill my head with conspiracy theories. One day he told me he'd heard on his daily radio show about how the government had come and slaughtered all of this innocent pig farmer's pigs. I went and told my middle school friends that at the breakfast table, to which they all laughed at me and said my dad was crazy.
The forest was shrinking, but the trees kept voting for the axe. For the axe was very clever and had said "Look, I too am made of wood - I am one of you"
Sounds like a children's book. Last I heard, "The Giving Tree" was considered having bad ideas; it wasn't good for the tree, of course, or the selfish child that cared little for the tree for its own sake.
#356 "Get the )ab! Get the )aaaaab!" we heard Brandon say again and again, then locking down churches, but not liquor stores. And then: _"I never said you had to take the )ab! It was always your free choice: No )ab, No )ob!"_ FJB!
@ardentynekent2099 The problem with that is that it's a medical condition and he hasn't been diagnosed by a doctor. We know he'd never allow himself to be tested for it, so don't expect to see it happen.
Strongmen by their nature are pretenders full of insecurity - a truly strong person doesn't need to constantly prove it to everyone. They simply get on with life, no bragging or displays of strength necessary, because it is readily apparent without dialling their activities to 11.
Thank God for Trump and his supporters who are not blind to what biden, his minions and his puppeteers have done to our beloved country. biden has let in 10+ million ILLEGALS since he assumed office. That alone she have been enough to have him removed from office. Drug pushers, gangs, spies, terrorists and lord knows what else has been let into OUR country while millions of LEGAL immigrants wait in line. Case closed!
I always have to laugh at Trump's stories of how well respected Trump and America was under Donald Trump's Administration! Not when I saw all the world leaders laughing at him behind his back for his childish antics!
My wife's grandfather (RIP) was a NASA engineer and a Korean War vet, and in his later years, he and I spoke about the rise of Trump. Over and over he emphasized "The first time I heard him speak, I said to myself, 'I've heard this language before, and I thought I would never hear it again!'." I am sad we lost him, but I am glad for his sake that he didn't have to experience Jan 2021. What Trump and his supporters have done to America is an affront to the sacrifices made by generations of people like him.
I always wondered how German society fell to fascism., how the German people allowed it , until this happened & a large group of Americans are allowing it to rise here. I wish I could have just been allowed to wonder , without getting a first hand representation of it in my own country.
You can read the facts in a history book and see the pictures taken , but nothing will bring context and clarity as seeing it slowly develop right in front of you. Like it has been , though it does make you wonder how bad it was before it became so obvious.
the std theory is the Versaille Treaty reparations, plus the depression in the 30s crushed the German economy which lead to the fall of the Weimar Republic, and the election of the many Nazis to the bundestag which Hitler dissolved in '33 unopposed. If this is what you see happening in the US maybe you need new glasses?
"When people tell you who they are, believe them "-Maya Angelou-Centuries ago,Ben Franklin warned that those who are willing to barter freedom for security, deserve neither, and risk losing both -
And that is the true lie Faux Snooze and the former guy are selling, “Give us power and we can keep you safe from them.” It is a lot like a street thug protection racket. Anyone willing to take that deal will have neither freedom nor safety.
@@StumblingThroughItAll because you see taking temporary actions to blunt the impact of a global pandemic as a loss of freedom. If people had taken responsibility to prevent overloading hospitals and health resources earlier the very mild close down the US experienced would have been even less. We did not lock down the way Italy had to. Of course YT keeps deleting my remarks.
@@tfodthogtmfof7644 My comments regularly get deleted as well, so I totally understand. I'll push a bit here. Trump was presented with a perfect opportunity to consolidate power, crack down on dissent, and implement self-interested policy during the COVID pandemic. In a moment of public panic, the public is far more willing to trade freedoms for security and restored order. Trump did nothing of the sort. In fact, much of the time he is criticized for the exact opposite. He didn't take enough control in many people's view. On the other hand, I watched democrat (or anti-Trump) leaders do the opposite. They consolidated their power, cracked down on those who disagreed with them, and implement policies that would help their own self-interests. Many of these exact policies were incredibly detrimental to the very people and institutions they so vociferously claimed to be "protecting". Even now, as they have clearly been shown to have acted wrongly, I hear very little willingness to address the profound damage that many of their ill-conceived policies caused to their constituents and institutions. Happy to provide receipts if you want specific examples.
Speaking for myself, Mr Reich and Ms Lofthouse, it is an honor to "put up with you." Your words, your time, a huge thank you. May God bless the United States of America.
I thank you for putting all of these problems together and calling it by its name FASCISTS Hopefully we have enough people paying attention and voting against it. VOTE for your LIFE! Vote blue !
Education in the US is lacking. We don't learn introspection, accountability and the greater good. And fascists like that. Yes misogyny is a profound part of the domination.
Slavery is a a component of fascism because slavery undergirds the mythology of the fascist regime which is an authoritarian hierarchical form of governing. The key to that definition is hierarchical meaning there are classes of people those designated to be at the top and those designated to be at the bottom and strict laws to make sure people stay in their designated classes. The slave class is designated to do all of the labor but reap none of the rewards because they aren’t real humans their designation is property or 3/5 of a person whose rights no one has to recognize. What nation’s history does this remind you of? It’s only been 61 years since we tried to legislate fascism out of America but it never left , it just went underground and now it’s back. People can always point out the wrong of others but have a blind spot when it comes to themselves. Ex. America ran across the Atlantic to fight fascism in Europe but continued to run fascism in America in the form of a code of laws called Jim Crow. The fascist are back in the form of Trump and the MAGA Movement. The question is what are we going to do about it?
Don’t know if my original post will appear here but i came back to edit it. I misread your post. The census is to count the reality of the number of people in a given area - illegal or not. By excluding the undocumented - they remain undocumented but still there nonetheless. (Edit) The undocumented are not allowed to vote regardless of being included in the census.
It's not education. Many well educated otherwise rational smart people fall into cults. People are driven by emotion and if something fulfills an emotional need or alleviates fear they will rationalize anything. A smart person can twist logic and rationalized awful things better than a stupid person.
For me as a German person it is hard to understand how the parallels between Hitler and Trump are so underestimated in the US. Thanks for your work. Keep it up.
American school children in the 1940s-50s should have been taught how fascism worked, so it wouldn't happen again. Instead we got far-right McCarthyism in the 1950s involving banning books, and witch hunts of alleged Communists with lives and careers ruined. I suspect its motivation was not only a reaction against the New Deal, but to forestall other societal changes like Civil Rights, women's rights, gay rights, unions, and the upcoming environmental movement. Someone must have worried about the environment in the 1950s with those above-ground nuclear tests. Even today, Hillary can face the Inquisitors in Congress for 8 hours or more and come out well; but University and College Presidents haven't a clue how to respond to McCarthy-style interrogations.
The thing that bothers me the most about allegations about elections is that Trump is insulting the hard, patriotic work of thousands of ordinary Americans who take time to make sure elections are run legally and correctly. Ordinary Americans need to have confidence in each other. Trump denegrates this!
A lot of old folks do that work and are tired of the fight. Younger people need to step up to take their place. Same with those who are librarians who don't know how to deal with McCarthyism-style attacks. They almost never say, "You are wrong to ban books; it's un-American, end of story. Using 'it harms children' and 'it's pornographic' arguments are lies; you just don't want people to hear ideas or life stories you disagree with, especially people who can't afford to buy a book a week." They also should refuse to defend books when certain passages are attacked as being offensive. That's the mistake the comic-book makers made in the 1950s; we don't know what good ideas may have come to America's youth through picture-books? Perhaps a violent war comic book involving decapitation or mass-killing may have helped stop the Vietnam War, before it began? And librarian should not self-censor or remove books based on what they think someone _might_ object to.
It may have been mentioned here, but one aspect of fascism is that big corporations and the government are very closely associated. Our laws permit lobbying of congress using money indirectly. One of the most egregious methods is allowing 'dark money' donations which the Supreme Court created by their "Citizens United" decision. The 'corporations are people' concept is ludicrous, and seems to apply in this discussion.
And every know-nothings who supports Trump keeps trying to claim that "the left" is fascist in America! A) we don't even have a left, or one with any power anyway, and B) as noted by David Walker, fascism involves corporations and government working together for their mutual benefit.
Well, that could be just "corporatism" not necessarily fascism, the latter has to do with a mythical past, traditional roles for women, supremacy of the majority ethnicity and religion, etc. However, corporations usually run like a dictatorship, not a democracy, which is one reason they hate unions, a democratic organization. And like a dictatorship they promote cronyism and incompetence, like the phrase "promoted to your level of incompetence." That means when you do your job well you get promoted, but then when you don't you've reached your level of incompetence and stop getting promotions, but don't get demoted back to where you were doing your job well. Corporatism also involves the corruption of government officials (elected or not) such that they look out for the private interests rather than the public interest or public good.
Kleptocorporate capitalism we are and have been in. I dont think the world oligarchs care what you call them so long as you shut up and go along. Alone we shall fall; together we can reverse this trend -whatever you call it. ACT dont just lament.
Secretary Albright’s warning was 200 years late because America had already been running fascism using slavery based on white supremacy. Then once the slaves were freed the government allowed Southern states to continue their fascist regime in the form of Jim Crow laws designed to make sure the slaves remained in their underclass positions in white society. It’s only been 61 years since America has tried to dismantle fascism on paper, but won’t pass the laws that will actually kill it. Instead America tries to pretend they’ve killed but Trump and the MAGA movement are proof we haven’t.
Madeline Albright celebrated the death of 500,000 Iraqi children. She said “it was worth it” She said so to Leslie Stahl on 60 minutes. You need to put someone else in a pedestal
Having read "It Cant Happen Here" as a teenager in the 1960s, then discussed with parents, a father who was on the frontlines from Casablanca to VE Day & a mother who basically turned our house into a library! So Lewis' "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag & carrying a cross" was a truth everyone needed to learn then & even more so now!
I want to take the time to verbalize my thankfulness for your enduring fight for democracy. Along with Bernie Sanders, Beau of the Fifth Column, and a handpicked few other people, you are a beacon of hope for a better future.
Thank you Mr. Reich and Heather Lofthouse for continuing to provide the public with relevant and much needed reminders of the lessons of history. I only wish that the people who need to see this most would be more open to receive it.
they’re not worth our time at this point, magats, better to vote blue and try to talk undecided and apathetic voters to vote blue in the elections and why it’s essential for this election
"They want personal freedoms, but then it seems like they're willing to give up on democracy." NO, they don't want personal freedoms, they want PRIVILEGE.
Exactly!, the "freedums" they scream about are THEIR absolute-personal privilege, no freedom for us, only for them. It's really neo-feudalism. Their absolute power/freedom, our peasant-serfdom.
They don't actually know what they want. They hate themselves and don't know it. If you listen to what they say and then watch how they act, it's what they hate. Makes no sense.
Why is there so much binary thinking on this issue? We could have a modified democracy that doesn't let morons have a vote. It's not all or nothing. Democracy elected Hamas. Democracy elected Hitler.
When an American can still support a party that is doing what the Democrats are doing with the border they are a useful idiot, and very much a big part of the destruction of the nation.
He and his ilk ARE bloody Fascists! My late dad was born in 1923 and served in the USAAC as a gunny sgt. on B-17 in the Pacific, so I know more about WWII than most anyone I know that was born in 1964. And what he did tell, not much about his own service (too painful), I was interested enough to read about, I knew it was important. I think I read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" when I was 12 or 13. He and my uncles of the same generation didn't fight in WWII for the US to devolve into a Hitleresque, authoritarian dystopia.
White "supremacy," male domination, plus predatory capitalism are at the core. If we do what's required to SAVE our global Climate, we'll likely save ourselves.
BTW some of Reichs bloggers are, if not outright fascist, uncivil, rude, closed minded blinkered and obnoxious as Trumps supporters - I dont know of any that are critical of Bidens proxy wars in Gaza and Ukraine.
💯 Thank you. Please continue to bring this subject to the forefront because it is a lesson to be taught and learned by each generation. I have been out spoken about this for years and will continue to be. To not be is to turn one's back on the capacity of humanity to evolve humanely.
Educating Trump supporters about fascism is nearly impossible because they shutdown immediately once his name is mentioned. The same goes with fundamentalist Christians, especially men who enjoy the benefits of authoritarian hierarchy and power over women. How do we break through those psychological barriers?
It’s impossible with maga, they’re cult all the way. Many leave on their own as they see for themselves how awful trump and his talk is. Surely, many independents will vote blue. 🗳💙🗳💙🗳💙
@@matt7561yes, leave the lying to all the Republican politicians who echo Trump’s lies, especially the notorious big lie where he continues to claim he really won the 2020 election. I can’t speak for all swing states, but I live in one of them, Georgia. Every single vote was counted 3 times, by machine, by hand, and an additional machine count. Biden was the winner in all three counts. So clearly, there was no “vote switching by Dominion machines” as was claimed by many Republicans and by several right wing media outlets.
Fascism refers to a bundle of sticks where one stick alone can easily be broken, but a bundle of sticks is strong. It's characterized by national unity by any means possible (even violence), and xenophobia against any "other" that doesn't conform.
Fascism : a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government ( as opposed to democracy or liberalism). For fascism to work one must have a strongman or dictator whose word and whim is absolute law. This type of government can’t stay in power without propaganda and violence. It can’t hold on to power without propaganda and violence. Fascism starts with conspiracies and grievances and a mythology of why this particular authoritarian leader and his followers should be in power. The authoritarian leader is almost worshipped by his followers as a type of savior. We always think our enemy is lurking somewhere out in the bushes or the woods, but the enemy is right in your front or back yard or even in your house. Vote Blue in 2024.
It actually goes back to the Roman "Fasces" Robert described which were symbols of political/governmental power back in Ancient Rome. A bundle of sticks with an axe-head inserted in it, symbolizing the power of the state to punish those who do wrong. IIRC, higher officials would have escorts who'd carry these Fasces around with them in public to denote the status of the politician/official they were accompanying.
What are the kinds of things that people are hungering for that make them grasp at the "security' they think they find in Fascism? These are important to think about. 💙💙💙💙 Grateful for the "preventive and prophylactic work" you and Dr Bandy Lee et al are having too. Thanks. ❤️
Understanding the fascist communication playbook is crucial. It involves constructing a narrative that appeals to basic emotions such as fear, the threat of an enemy, and the longing for a bygone, glorious past. The veracity of the narrative is irrelevant; its aim is to captivate the less informed masses. Discussions on tangible political issues like reforms and budgets are avoided, as they open one up to critique. The MAGA movement has thoroughly embraced these tactics.
Yes, that's what I found by reading _How Fascism Works,_ though there were several books of that theme with the rise of Trump and others worldwide. It also takes mere seconds to put forth a good lie. It would take an hour or more to contradict it. People still think masks were bad during the Pandemic. But they don't hear or question why doctors wear masks during surgery.
You don't think the left has embraced these same tactics? instead of glorious past they use other narratives.. climate change, racism, etc etc. two wings, same bird.
I started watching John Stewart’s weekly podcast that addresses the failing aspects of our democratic institutions with possible solutions. How can we take action towards commitment to democracy, instead of complaining with fear or cynicism. Thank you for YOUR podcast because history informs reform. And you are not bringing anyone down… you are lifting all of us so we can reject apathy and embolden ourselves to fight for democratic principles like justice and equality for all.💙
@piku5637 It truly does depend on the _nature_ of those cooperatives, unions, etc. If their purpose is to not take power or take peoples voice/"votes", they yes. But any group, cooperative, union, etc. (which are basically groups of people -- i.e. "bundles", from the root-definition of fascism) can have fascist goals, to remove people's power. So, it's incorrect to say that groups working together is an antidote to fascism. Fascism requires ppl working together.
Fascism in the US has been around since slavery, Jim Crow, ethnic cleansing of the natives and the eugenics movement. It's well baked into puritan law and Christian conservatism. It just wasn't known as fascism yet.

Thank you 💥the “Raygun” was the beginning of the normalization of Autocracy… the rise of toxic capitalism is our biggest issue…
Warning signs that someone may be fascist: claiming to be able to easily and quickly solve difficult problems, but not able to go into detail about the solution, lying in general. This is from Rick Steves address of fascism in Europe.
E.g. Trump’s famous “I’ll announce my solution to XYZ in two weeks.” He promised that about: health care, infrastructure, Covid, etc. And he’s still making “in just 2 weeks” promises during his rallies.
Democrats and people with integrity must mobilize to protect and preserve Democracy and commit to preventing fascism in the U.S. A most important message, and one I never thought would be of such critical concern in my lifetime.
My vote is mine, and mine only. I will not be bought by anyone to change my vote or voice. When you get bought by someone, you are obligated to do what they want. Everyone's vote is sacred and needs to be protected. Vote for democracy, vote blue 💙
Germany admitted its errors and did so much to remake itself. America is always papering over its faults, demonizing the people who mention them, and pretending it is perfect. Its a recipe for personal and national disaster.
The Germans are still fascists, though, when it comes to Palestine, and perhaps other occupied populations. I had no idea Germany was still so fascistic until these past eight months.
Thank you, Prof. Reich, for always taking the road less traveled. We need these conversations, so don't concern yourselves with always having "uplifting" topics! Any topic you discuss can be uplifting if one views them as informative and educational! Only armed with authentic information can we move ourselves forward and away from our enemies.
I have always thought that the meeting that takes place every year with the richest in the world has been orchestrating the world fascists movement for their own selfish reasons.
The Klatch has become a morning routine. Mr. Reich, you are one of the people in this world that I pay attention to and respect. I greatly appreciate your combo of knowledge, perspective, and compassion. Thank you for being a clear voice of reason.
Seems like all the regular media are desperately trying to avoid upsetting Fox viewers. Someone please tell them that they are watching Fox and not them.
Except when it comes to the military. We need a strong military to deter someone attacking. Keep it strong and hope we never need it. Unfortunately we use it all the time and it's becoming weakened. The opposite of what we want.
All these things said about fascism by mr. Reich are very true indeed. I just found this UA-cam channel today by accident. I was only able to watch just a few of its videos. But I’m totally convinced there’s a lot for me to learn here. Thank you. There’s just one more aspect that may sound like a small issue, but is in fact very important in fascism. I just read about it last month in a recent book on Fascism, its history and ideology by the Dutch historian Robin te Slaa. It’s about the exact way the strong leader tends to represent the people. These leaders usually start out by claiming they’re the best choice or option to represent the people: ‘Only I can truely represent the people’. Once in power their claim usually changes into ‘I am the people’. This change in vocabulary is not to be underestimated, Te Slaa notes in his book. Sometimes these claimes do not start with the leader actually making them himself first, but everything he says and does sometimes just implies them, so they actually originate from the people themselves. This strengthens both the leader and the people in the belief that the claims are correct. Just like we see happening right now in your country. Trump also successfully and easily incorporated strong fundamental beliefs of many right wing christians in his self-aggrandizement, exactly like Mussolini did with the catholic church in Italy. In Europe we are also totally aware of the simple fact that these types of leaders are amongst us here. Most of them remain wannabes (like Geert Wilders in my country), but we have more than a few more who are actually in power. Because of their individual personality traits and because our countries are far less powerful than the US, things might not seem so very dangerous yet. But the (hidden) ties these leaders have with Russia worry us... But, none of our countries are able to start WW3 on their own, like Trump can. And the direct ties with the far less extreme religious groups here are not quite that strong. Yet. Most of us hope Kamala Harris beats Trump!
Can you imagine, I saw a bumper sticker that stated, I would rather be an American than a Democrat . Perhaps we need an entrepeneur to print some bumper stickers that remind people of how inequality is destroying Democracy here, there and everywhere.
And we have the right wingers to thank for this unprecedented wealth and income inequality. In the early 80s, after Reagan took control, they began earnestly rewriting the economic playbook to benefit _only_ corporations and the uber rich, everyone else be damned. "The singular objective of the GOP is nothing less than the complete destruction of organized human society." - Noam Chomksy Of course, that won't exactly fit on a bumper sticker.
@texasbluebonnet4303 Inequality isn't enough. Every state & country has inequality, but few are fascist. Fascism requires "the masses" to organize and group together (again, *as Heather said @**2:59**,* the word comes Latin "fasces, plural" which means "rods" (a bunch of rods) and Italian "fascio" (bundle) -- fascists say a bundle is stronger than one). Social media is the perfect vehicle to let "weak twigs" find each other, to group together. It lets similar-minded people (whether good or bad) to organize, share info, make plans, etc. -- get stronger. When angry people form facebook grps (or on any social media), they CAN be stronger and more dangerous. *_That's why all social problems in the world got much much worse, only after social media (especially facebook)._* A more nuanced view is that it isn't only social media (which lets _both_ good & bad people organize). It's that human nature is amplified by social media -- and the fact that "bad" or "angry" people are more motivated, so they use social media more -- to organize & amplify their anger. Good people aren't so motivated to do this, so they stay disparate and quiet. Social media LETS bad people group into fasces/bundles and mobs -- to become (literally, in Latin) fascists.
God bless you, Robert Reich! I've been a fan for years. I regularly recommend you to my friends & neighbors, some of whom are recovering Republicans (!) For context, I'm 72. My local friends are 83, 77, 63, 62 & 59, hardly a demographic appreciated by advertisers or most pollsters. But here's the thing. We all live in FL, also known as "God's Waiting Room". We all live independently in our own homes & we all are plugged into the internet. There's a classic Byrds' song that contained this lyric: "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now." This is my roundabout way of saying I appreciate you no end. I applaud you coming out saying "Trump is a Fascist" because he is! Keep spreading the word. And to the lovely young woman who's also part of this ongoing podcast, forgive me for not knowing your name. You are a terrific counterpart to Mr. Reich. It's just that I'm more familiar with his output over the years. In closing, much respect to you both. Your voices are sorely needed in these troubling times. 💙
I would like to see Robert Reich create a playlist specifically about Fascism here on this UA-cam Channel. Secondly, I highly recommend a new NetFlix series, “Hitler and the Nazi’s-Evil on Trial.” The series really points out the qualities of Hitler that allowed him to become Germany’s “Savior” and the parallels to Hitler and Trump is phenomenal.
The evangelicals need this education. If he had said this - they would have claimed he was of the devil and never listened to the warning of an impending fascism coming home
Fair enough. This was just a half-hour discussion, though, and if it was going to have any depth it wasn't going to also be able to cover every possible angle. Maybe we'll see some further discussion to help fill some of those gaps.

the simplest description of fascism is dictatorial rule - such is not possible in your country as long as there are checks and balances and separation of powers and the other safeguards in your paper Constitution.
@@rd264 Unfortunately, such *_is_* still possible if those safeguards are not rigorously enforced.

And they project their own insecurities on others.

@@Mustapha1963regarding the census. It is the Republicans who are trying to exclude the undocumented immigrants. It is not the democrats.

💯 yes!!!!!
Thank you; this topic is excellent and important 👍🇺🇸💙
It may have been mentioned here, but one aspect of fascism is that big corporations and the government are very closely associated. Our laws permit lobbying of congress using money indirectly. One of the most egregious methods is allowing 'dark money' donations which the Supreme Court created by their "Citizens United" decision. The 'corporations are people' concept is ludicrous, and seems to apply in this discussion.
I have been saying that since Reagan - we have been moving toward a Corporatocracy. Now it appears to be a Fascist Corporatocracy.
Yanis Varoufakis's book "Technofeudalism" brought all these points together succinctly and thoroughly for me.
Kleptocorporate capitalism we are and have been in. I dont think the world oligarchs care what you call them so long as you shut up and go along. Alone we shall fall; together we can reverse this trend -whatever you call it. ACT dont just lament.
Umberto Eco‘s 14 points of fascism are pretty much a good description of Trumpism.
Lawrence Britt's fourteen points also line up pretty well.
Madeleine Albright warned us in 2018 with her book Fascism: A Warning!

Trump uses fascism because he is a criminal and he feels the only way out is to destroy the justice system.

Cooperatives especially and unions, and federations working together is a much needed anti fascist resistance.

Fascism? Obviously. I get a chuckle when I remind myself that I have moved to Germany to get away from fascism. The irony is rich.
Germany admitted its errors and did so much to remake itself. America is always papering over its faults, demonizing the people who mention them, and pretending it is perfect. Its a recipe for personal and national disaster.

Sadly Geert Wilders is actually in power.
Luckily we have proportional representation.
Goed geschreven 🤞
And please, do not forget the fascist contributions by the Not-So-Supreme Court.
Literally!
Give an example or two, please. Thank you.
I really look forward to these episodes. Thanks so much! 👍🩵👏
"The singular objective of the GOP is nothing less than the complete destruction of organized human society." - Noam Chomksy
Of course, that won't exactly fit on a bumper sticker.
*_That's why all social problems in the world got much much worse, only after social media (especially facebook)._*
A more nuanced view is that it isn't only social media (which lets _both_ good & bad people organize).
I live in FL. It's already here. 💙
@@keep-ukraine-free Thank you for your quite thoughtful, articulate and well-reasoned comment.
Cheers
Bumper stickers are cheap to make lol u don't need to be an entrepreneur lol just 200 bucks
In another video, can you discuss the difference between Democracy & Capitalism. Too many Americans don't understand the differences.
Thank you Robert and Heather for bringing truth everyone needs to know!
Thank you for your reporting and conversation. 🕊️🤍
Great video! As a student of 20th century , of this needed to be said and yes, your video about fascism is excellent.
Excellent Discussion every Saturday Share
Education for Citizens,
I would like to see Robert Reich create a playlist specifically about Fascism here on this UA-cam Channel. Secondly, I highly recommend a new NetFlix series, “Hitler and the Nazi’s-Evil on Trial.” The series really points out the qualities of Hitler that allowed him to become Germany’s “Savior” and the parallels to Hitler and Trump is phenomenal.
With trump, fascism isn't so much a philosophy but a lifestyle.
Trump has no philosophy, and couldn't define the word. He is evil, a destroyer and always has been.
Explain with facts
Trump isn't capable of such deep thought, but his actions and desires promote Fascism
Thank you both for your time and expertise 🤍
Religion, especially evangelical Christianity, primes folks for accepting authoritarianism/fascism.
I wish this was touched upon in this video
Me too.
The evangelicals need this education. If he had said this - they would have claimed he was of the devil and never listened to the warning of an impending fascism coming home
@@catpaladin1 Not only do evangelicals know about the “impending fascism”, they’re encouraging it. It’s uber charitable to think otherwise.
@waynedexter Totally agree. Religion requires indoctrination. Religious people can be indoctrinated into *_anything._*
Fair enough. This was just a half-hour discussion, though, and if it was going to have any depth it wasn't going to also be able to cover every possible angle. Maybe we'll see some further discussion to help fill some of those gaps.
Yes it is important. So thank you both ❤🎉❤🎉❤
Hard truths are refreshing when they are drilling through a thick wall of deceit. Thank you so much. 💙
Of course it is. Which begs the question, how many kind-hearted Germans ignored the signs which Hitler gave in the early 1930s?
Rachel Maddow published an entire book on it...
Anyone who believes a word out of Rachel Maddows big mouth is unbelievably gullible.
Along with an excellent podcast. It also went into some detail about how the movement was derailed, which is really what we need right now.
Thanks for your clear statemens , Heather and Robert!
