    Yeah, she didn't sound all that sincere about her apology, and even tried to be dismissive about both what he went through and her part in his misery. Sadly, that also makes it believable, since people like that try to whitewash their past and pretend they did no wrong

      I had an interview years ago with an accounting firm in Virginia. The interviewer was a Russian chick. She gave me the Natasha vibe (if you recognize the cartoon reference) with her accent. She was talking about the standard work week was 80 plus hours on a salaried position. Salary meaning you’re not compensated past 40 hours. At one point before I walked out she actually said “you don’t seem enthusiastic about working an 80 plus hours a week”. She actually said that. I had already decided I wouldn’t work there and asked about the salary. She rattled off a standard figure for the area which I did quick math and said “well at a 80 plus hour week that’s below minimum wage isn’t it?” I had a master’s degree and been working several years at that point. She really didn’t know what to say at that point. I thanked her for the interview and left.

    One thing she said right: just because "we were kids" doesn't make it any less hurtful. True as it may be that kids don't know better, as adults we still have to acknowledge it was wrong, otherwise we didn't actually grow up.

    • @jebbryant6522
      @jebbryant6522 6 місяців тому

      Ah yes because surely you're going to take blame and acknowledge everything socially unacceptable you did. Incase my sarcasm wasn't clear we literally have 0 responsibility to acknowledge qhat we did as kids since we were literally different people and were significantly less developed. Unless you wanna come out and take responsibility for all the noses you picked or the pants you shat in don't expect others to do the same necause it's insane to expect that from any adult

      @@javi_fc yes I agree you cam acknowledge what you did as a kid was bad but I have an issue with "we have to acknowledge what we do as kids" we have no responsibility or expectation to do as such. For example I made fun of my friend for being fat when I was like 7 and we're still mates today despite never acknowledging it. At a certain point you have to know people develop and you can't be held accountable for most shit you do as a kid when you're an adult

    • @jebbryant6522
      @jebbryant6522 6 місяців тому

      @@javi_fc just to be clear I'm now saying you aren't a dick for doing extreme shit as a kid like assault and what not but "we were kids" is absolutely an exceptable reason for giving people a mean nickname. I've given bad nickname and been given them it's just what kids do. If we have to apologise for everything we do wrong as kids we'll be saying sorry all day since kids literally have to do bad shit to learn.

    • @javi_fc
      @javi_fc 6 місяців тому +3

      @@jebbryant6522 I get it but there's nothing wrong with just hitting that friend up and saying "hey sorry for what I said as a kid" I agree that we don't have to but it is a great way to show growth and maturity to be able to look back and see those mistakes. maybe even try and figure out why you did those things and why you didn't think they were bad. acknowledgement of ignorance is part of development. you don't need to but it is a good thing to do. after a certain point "I was a kid" just seems like a shield to hide behind instead of realizing you made bad choices. not talking about you specifically but I know some people definitely do that.

    Not gonna lie. As soon as she said “I don’t think about that past that much” I would have walked out. Sounds like she’s quietly trying to say “get over it” in a nice way. Some times the greatest strength is not with facing adversity but knowing when to seek a newer possibly better option. You can fight against the ocean forever in order to build a house by the beach but a wise man knows when its best to realize that no man alone can beat the ocean so why fight it. This listener had their past ruined and rather than fight a tidal wave of emotions that would always surface when encountering this boss, the listener chose to instead move on to other possibilities even if it meant giving up on greater wealth. At the same time the boss is learning an invaluable lesson. The past is not a well where all things vanish in time. The past is more like a race. You can race ahead thinking everything is golden but things from your past can race ahead to trip you up for mistakes you made to get ahead.

Compare that to the boss who was our old bully and clearly not actually sorry. Ya ill go with the old boss for now.
