Merit is wholly dependent upon opportunity. It might have been a case that if those, who are uneducated, had gotten a chance to study they might have been more successful than today's meritorious people. It's just that some people are at lack of something that could be in the form of money, social privilege or circumstances.

Reservation is not only for Job but it impacts the competitive exams as well. If you include that detail - basically all the institute giving 50% seats - those seats do translate to a job - mostly in the private sector.

For that we need complete annihilation of caste. Why were reservations required in the first place? Because backward castes were economically backward. My mother is teacher in a semi-rural high school. The correlation between caste and economic state is painfully obvious there.

@@anweshaguha7366 Not sure I agree with the annihilation of caste concept - that is the idealistic approach. Discrimination finds a way - if not caste then it will be the region or the skin color or the education.
The result of the current caste system is economic backwardness which can be answered using reservation for them which will also help them to grow.
The social deformation hampers the poor most so that should be the priority.
I do understand the rich Dalit also faces discrimination but that should be dealt with laws of the land - not reservation.

90 % villages in India still practice cast discrimination....the houses of dalits are on outskirts....manual scavenging of sewage is still done by chamars....(is there any upper caste person who does this...I don't want any person to do this ..but till we get the equipment and resources to do it mechanically is it not good to share the burden)

Sri K Tamil Nadu is in no way any different than an average Indian state, even states like Himachal outperform it in most indicators.
As far as domination of upper caste is concerned it is not due to privileges but the persuit of excellence that is embedded in their mindset. That is why they are successful all over the world. I got scholarship due to my caste? While my reserved category classmates even from better schools struggled.
Did Ramanujam succeed due to his caste even after being poor?
While there are people like Ambedkar who succeeded even after facing 19th century discrimination.
What reservation has actually done is to make general category students more hard working and unreserved ones less competent thereby increasing inequality, this is also encouraging brain drain from India- from Indira Noyi to Sunder Pichai all are high caste.
Instead of promoting excellence India is becoming a bastion of mediocrity while the world is marching ahead.
Instead of reservation the depressed castes should be exposed to intense competition that is prevalent in the world and make them help themselves.
What they need is support in form of best education and health and not substandard teachers and doctors which are going to service them again creating another generation of mediocres.

Anyhow I will give personally account of my grandfather......he had to tie a broom to his waist which is used to erase his foot steps....his had carry his own container to spit into...he was not supposed to speak to upper cast people with his head up...mind you this was just 80 years ago...if a group of people were this kind of subjugation for thousands of years.....fear and risk aversion will be instilled in their genes....

So that one day... Hopefully we will be known in our society by things we did, and not by our mere surnames. Just make an undercover series where you go to a village of Brahmin and upper caste dominance , with Dalit surname... show to the World where we are standing.
In next part, go to a residential society ...live for few days with Dalit surname ..

Slightly disappointed as I was expecting some probable solutions to this hotly debated topic. While in theory, it does look good, in practice, the ones who deserve the reservation cannot utilize it because the "privileged" among the reserved are using it repeatedly. As a result only one small section among the weaker section keeps getting stronger, while it's status quo for the remaining lot. This pivotal point was missed. Secondly, only reservation in jobs was focused. Quality of the job opportunity depends on which college you've studied in. Rest is self explanatory.

      A. Savarnas should stop boasting their caste status and marry their progeny into bahujan families in their economic (income)group. Such exogamous family can completely give up their caste instead of giving father's caste to the child.
      B. Or else wait till all Bahujan women end up marrying into Savarna families while Bahujan don't raise male child. But even then Brahmins discriminate among themselves too.
So B option is not really an option.

@Arindam Das bt brahmins r not poor bcz of their caste. Bt a dalit is poor bcz of their caste, even though they work more. Thats how privilege work i think.

Why haven't they explained it? It's because there's no valid stand that they can take. Reservation was initially introduced to do away with the separation of people of the basis of economic benefit. It has now become the banner mark for creating the same alienation that it was meant to eradicate.
Again i would still adress it as an issue, but those would be on communal grounds. And the people who endorse it for such reasons, let me be clear, i do not defend them. But as in my own case, when the 40 percentiles hold higher positions than the 90 percentiles, that it when you see problems such as inefficiency at typing, not being able to handle numbers, inability to interpret and analyse data. Need i elaborate further?

Before starting viva they used to ask name when i answer Priya they say tell full name so indirectly know the cast and then they start viva wd all the judgements……these are the professors who are well educated still illiterate.
