    Hello Josh, just wanted to tell you I'm impressed with your level of knowledge and more importantly your skills and experience. There's so many pretenders out there but you are definitely not in this category. I go a long ways back in wilderness survival skills and was fortunate enough to spend 30 days in the boreal forest with Mors Kochanski. After that experience I learned of Glen Garner who was trained and taught by Tom Brown and took every BOSS course they offered in the 90's. Had my own survival school in 2000 and offered courses through 2004. A lot of what you share is the very things I was taught. Keep up the great work and remember that you never know where your influence begins or ends. Peace my friend...✌

    Got my pack afew weeks ago, setup watching your video on, Alice frame. Added molle belt/straps, been on few ruck walks, with it. Christmas day, did 8 miles, hit some pretty steep hills, with 60 lbs, very comfortable pack, rides high and tight against my back, at 55 years old zero back pain, after walking with it.

    I can't count how many ebay listings and surplus store finds where I've seen alice packs put together wrong. Nice having a clear youtube video that mentions how to do it even if its not for the original alice pack. I learned off of youtube videos but this one would've have been so much easier to decipher.
    If I didn't already have a pile of packs I'd be jumping over that thing like a chicken on a junebug.
    P.S. They have a woodland one... I'm not drooling. I promise.

    I had a good smile, because Dave from Really Big Monkey did the same exact thing a couple of days before you posted
    I think Malcolm sent a tropica light sack to more than just one person to test out and attach to an old Molly frame.
    Like I said, Dave from really Big monkey beat you to it by a couple of days. However if you have ever watched his channel he sometimes takes forever to explain things. What I like is the fact that you just get down to it and don’t waste any time.

    Hey Joshua, I ended up camping because hotels were to expensive for work. I liked that video where you brought tent steaks, and recommended them. I even bought some extras. When I travel with a crew I have to pack light and inconspicuous. To make a long story short, I forgot tent steaks, and the tent wouldn’t set up without them. I had to make some. The whole time I was thinking. Ghgb “ I would rather have steaks than have to make them. Thanks for your videos.

  • @jamescrowe7892
    @jamescrowe7892 3 роки тому +1

    They ought to do one based on the large ALICE pack now. Back when I was in boot camp we had the old toggle and slot (p*ssy) connections on our web belts. We were instructed to were the belt with the p*ssy to the left. I always wondered if they were making a statement there. I have a Camelback ruck with an internal frame (sort of) with nice padding in the waist belt, shoulder straps and on the back with air channels. Clam shell openings, side pockets and water bladder pocket. Comfort ain't bad. But now all you professional ruckers have me rethinking my ALICE packs and their frames.

    Is it better to make a shelter out of a mylar blanket instead of just wrapping it around you? Perhaps if you only have a blanket it would be better (please correct me on this) but in my case I always make sure to have drum liners and cordage that could be used to make a half decent shelter with raised bed which makes it seem like using it like a tarp shelter would be a better value

    Tried a few different backpacking packs, but none ever jived with me like an alice. Bought a Hidden Woodsmen after watching this video, so now I’ve replaced my stinky, patched, and sewn soft parts with some high speed gear! Fit my frame perfectly, is more impressive in person for sure. I did find that my dry bag that fits in a GI issue duffel fits perfectly inside the pack, so I stuff it in first then put in anything I want to keep dry during some major downpours. The top drawstring is much improved, but it’s still an alice, so not a waterproof closure. One word of advice when you first get one, the buckles are all a bit tight. Don’t panic, after you unclasp and snap them back together a few times they break in. My only complaints so far are there are no external molle or other means for extra gear, except on the bottom. This leads to my other complaint which negates the first, which is that this pack has enough room I don’t need any outside attachments. This does cause me to want to overpack though! Just gotta ask myself if I really need what I’m putting in there. Good product and great work, Josh!

    I wish, instead of the side pockets they just had PALS webbing, and made the pockets, pouches that came with. And then cover the back and the waist belt with PALS webbing. I love modularity. Being able to set it up the way each person wants makes it an "everybody" pack. Plus it would make room for a bunch of Hidden woodmen pouches you could buy in the future.

    Question:
    Hello! I recently discovered you channel and found your bug out bag videos very helpful. My question about the Alice frame is wether or not this type of system is worth the added weight? What are the pros and cons of an Alice frame? Best use cases? Is something like this better for long term missions or hunting where you might need to carry a lot of extra weight and gear? Do you already have a video about this and I’m just blind? Thanks in advance! 👍

      Back in the day, there really weren’t any internal frames so a sturdy (but lightweight) one like the Alice helped keep heavy loads from moving around so much.
      Now, the primary benefit of an external frame over an internal one is that in warm weather you are kept cooler because you don’t have the material pressed up against your back as you exert yourself.
      Hope that answers your question.

    • @redfangsociety7636
      @redfangsociety7636 3 роки тому +1

      Gear shifting on you as you move puts strain on your muscles and wears you out faster.
      Another benefit of the external frame found on the Alice is that it is well proven as a design. And the improved Alice frame sold by Tactical Tailor is even better than the one we were issued.
