. i posted this two years ago before i knew you could sequence synth parameters with the right equipment . aphex probably plugged a 303 or something into a c/v sequencer that was sequencing the parameters of another filter... or maybe just using conditional trigs on an elektron or something. either way the notes of the bass and the filter of the bass are being sequenced seperatly giving it that warm acid wiggle.
its just a modded+distorted 303, the cutoff changes are just 303 accents. He has modded 303 (filter fm mods etc) all over the series. No need for filter CV or midi CC or anything. This all could be done on the 303 sequencer (no way to know what he used to sequence though of course). You can tell its a 303 (or a purposeful recreation with a modular or something) and not just a velocity -> cutoff/cutoff EG patch cause the accented (higher cutoff frequency) notes have a shorter envelope as well, this is how the 303 accent works. This series really opens your eyes to whats possible with a 303
he also has so many songs, even a lot of his fans have only heard portions of his entire work. Also, to Richard, even his most intricate songs (like fenix funk 5) are probably simple sounding to him, ahah.
Funny, i didnt expect that i could, over the close relation of our languages come from stabbij, which simply sounded like a typical aphexian rubbish name to me (or, though not really sounding like it, perhaps, another cornish word) to "steh mir bei", which would be the german equivalent. Etymology rules! Also, what a nice name for a dog. Funny how before i associated it with something so violent like "stabbing" and now its a beautifully peaceful name that also defines the nature of dogs.
How did he sequence this bass line it's really good wow I've been trying to recreate for like 2 days I'm stuck
It's Aphex Twin, that's all you need to know
use a mc 202/sh101ish piece of gear
Well, its a two octave bass, with a bit of distortion simply put

A rare dog, whose name is derived from the Dutch saying "sta me bij" or "stand by me". There are an estimated 3500 in existence today.
