- Likely musicians are: Jimmy McPartland, cnt; Joe Rushton, BsSx; Jack Howe, tenor; Rosy McHargue?, clar; Squirrel Ashcraft, piano; Ormond Downes, drums; Bud Wilson, trombone; Howard Kennedy, guitar.
McPartland's gal pal here is aspiring actress, Gloria Faye.
He got kinda fresh there with the hands prior to moving in for the big kiss. Adorable!
Josh, it sounds like one of many JAZZ ME BLUES, but if it's the one from Informal Sessions at Squirrel's (MIS 3) it would be Jack Howe, tenor; Rosy McHargue, clarinet; Squirrel Ashcraft, piano; Ormond Downes, drums; Bud Wilson, trombone; Howard Kennedy, guitar; McP and Joe Rushton. 1939. Who's the lady in the film?
I'm going to update the personnel with a caveat that one or more may be incorrect. Clarinet (to my ears) might not be Rosy. The lady in the film is an aspiring actress named Gloria Faye. Her name sounds like someone famous, but she’s not.
I knew Jack Howe and these guys pretty well, and I can comment that it must be Rosy McHargue since he, Jack Howe, and Rushton were the only clarinet players at the session and it is clearly not Jack Howe, an example of whose playing can be heard on the studio Riverboat Shuffle which can be heard on youtube, and of course it is not Rushton, who is playing bass sax. By the way, there is no tenor sax audible on this tune, so it looks like Jack was sitting this one out.
Jimmy looks quite the Lothario here, and the young lady doesn't seem to mind his hands.
