And finally I got this video from you and I feel so happy. Thank you so much for your video. I want to ask you about fashion school recommend for not having much money for school and need to make my own money for my fashion journey. I am interested in Fashin design and want to go to school in western with English language.
I am glad that you enjoyed this video. It means a lot! FIT was the best option for me money wise. It is one of the most affordable fashion schools in New York City. I am not really sure about schools in other parts of the US so I would just keep looking into it and researching.
The fabric swatches can be digital printouts? (I don't really have access to much fabric near me so having that option would really widen my fabric choices!). Also your work was great and I too have watched a lot of videos off ppl taking classes and what not and your video was a lifesaver that its possible inexperienced! Tysm!
Yes, I used digital printouts and real fabric. I just tried to find ones that showed the texture. ( If you look on websites that are selling the fabric they often have high quality photos/scans) Also I would not worry to much about the fabric, some of my info about the swatches was probably wrong, but that is why we are trying to go to school. ;) also I am glad the video was helpful, makes me so happy. Best of Luck!!!
I am so glad this was helpful to you! To be honest I don't remember having to change the image size. It just has to be able to upload to the slide room (which is where you submit your portfolio). So other than that I don't think that it really matters.
i am a senior in high school and i’m going to be apply to FIT for the fall semester in 2024. i’m trying to major in photography. the only thing i’m worried about is i don’t have too much experience with a professional camera. do you know if FIT is strict with knowing background knowledge? like for example if you’ve only taken photos from a digital I-Phone. This was not your major so i’m not sure if you’ll know this information but anything will help if you do. thank you.
i doubt it, you go to the university in order to learn and excel in your passion. They just need to see a clear motivation and attempt to your passion.
They will teach you how to do all of the technical parts of your major like camera settings and stuff so I would not be too worried. They are looking for your creativity and passion which is not something that they can't teach. But If you have the ability to get your hands on a real camera play around even if it is not perfect.
I am so happy this was helpful. It took me about 2 weeks, but I had done my sewing projects before hand. I would recommend giving yourself more time than I did. lol. Best of luck and if you have any other questions feel free.
I am glad this was helpful. To be honest I do not remember the website, but what I did was go to a website that was selling the fabric that I wanted and they have really high quality photos, that I just downloaded. I just used a regular 2b but I had to erase it before i painted so it probably would have been smarter to use a watercolor pencil. But It also depends on which medium you want to use, marker, watercolor, ect.. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey, this is so cool! But I have a question: what kind of videos did you use for building your skills? Or what kind of influencers? Thank you so much and greetings from germany😊
Hi, thanks for watching the videos. I really like to watch bliss foster he did not really teach me anything related to actually making clothes but he has a lot of great content and it really inspires me. Other than that I just look at other fashion and see what works and take parts and pieces to better my work
For the portfolio requirements, the sportswear project asks for 3-6 images. By image do they mean one design. Like the first two you showed side by side, would that be considered two separate images? (My question may sound dumb sorry)
No, your question makes perfect sense. So I did three images; I had the moodboard as my first image, then for the other two I had the flats and the model on the same page, witch counted as one image, but technically I could have had them on different pages and then they would be two different images. So to answer your question, on image does not equal one design because you can combine your flats with the drawing of it on the model into one image or have them in different images. I hope this is what you were looking for, and best of luck!
@@annahudson4692 thank you so much for replying and clarifying it. I was unsure but now I get it. You were a big help. I am a senior and am thinking of what colleges I want to go to. I have no experience in the fashion industry whatsoever, I have more cosmetology experience. But fashion has always been an interest(from the clothes I wear to what I see in models)?”, I’ve just never had the confidence to pursue. However after seeing your video, I have gained confidence and will apply. I am willing to put in all the work needed. Have a wonderful day and thanks again❤️
Heyy this was wonderful video XD but I was just wondering that can you get into fashion schools like parsons, fit just after high school or do you have to do some programs or courses?? I will be overwhelmed if you answered my query. ♡♡ Thank you for makin my confidence go high by just watching this video. ♡
I am so glad that you found this helpful. You can go to FIT right after high school. I did not do any programs or anything before hand so you should be fine. I wish you the best of luck!!
Hello sis! First of all thank you so much for making this lovely video that help so much people💖 and I'm currently a junior in high school and I have zero knowledge toward fashion design and may you please give me some advices for applying fashion design schools like parsons, FIT, Pratt, etc. And I wanna to ask what basic (minimum) knowledge I need to know before going into fashion design? Like maybe learning how to use Adobe illustrater, drawing, sewing and stuff. Would you be so kind to answer my question please? Thank u so much!
Yes, I applied to all the schools that you listed. FIT was the only one that you had to do fashion drawings for. To get ready for fashion school I would just practice sewing and drawing (on paper) mainly. They will teach you photoshop and stuff like that when you get here and they want you to do it their way so I would not worry about that. I hoped that answered your question.
this was so helpful thank you! do you know if the portfolio can be digital? or is it better to do it on paper + did you submit the digital mood board you made on canva? also what was the size of paper you used for your portfolio drawings?
You can do your portfolio on paper or digital it does not matter, but when you submit it is digital, because you are submitting photos. And yes I did submit the mood board. When you apply they tell you a website and how to submit it. I hope that answers that question. Also for the paper I think that 11"x14" is standard or at least that is what I used. Best of luck!! I am glad you found this helpful!
I used water color. Personally I would not do that and just use markers bc it is much faster but which ever you are better with i would go for. Thank you so much for watching :)
Anna: Well Done! I have been looking for a video to show my high school class and this is it! You are very talented and yet your video is so approachable, not so flashy. What did your submission look like? You mentioned FIT told you the program to upload it into. I am trying to figure out how my students will actually construct their portfolio, a physical product or a digital product?
This makes me so happy. I am so glad people are finding it helpful. When it comes to actually putting the portfolio together you have to have applied to the school already and there will be a link to a slide room account. You can take pictures of the art and download it to your computer and then in slide room you can upload it and write about each piece. It is pretty simple but you can only really see what you need to do once you have slide room. I hope that answered your question. Also If any of your students are interested in going to FIT tell them to subscribe to my channel because I am going to continue posting videos with detail about what it is actually like studying fashion design.
Hi, thanks for the video it was very helpful but I have a question to ask. Was it a fashion school you learnt this or was it a university you went that you learnt this?
I went to a regular high school. They did not teach me how to do any of this it was just on my own. But now I am at fashion school which is basically university. I hope this answers your question.
As someone who is in thier sophmore year of high school, I don’t know how to draw at all or sew anything. What actions should I take right now for the future when I’m making my portfolio? I’m thinking of finding sewing classes and asking my school teacher to help me with drawing and painting. I have no idea😅
Yes, the sewing portion is required for the portfolio. If you have access to a sewing machine I would still try. My sewing projects were really bad because I had no experience but I still got in. I would make sure that if your sewing is not strong make sure your illustrations are really strong. I hope this helps.
I used water color in the video. I now use makers, because they are much easier. Make sure you use copic markers and marker paper or else it will be very dificult for it to look nice.
The school i want to go to doesnt have any requirements on the portfolio except: 10 images, showing who you are and your progress adn a moadboard, but does that mean i dont need to make flats or patterns, because i never use patterns and i jsut sew it out of my head and it always goes well most of the time, so i will just put in my sewn garments but idk if its good enough like that
If the application does not say that you need to show flats I think you should be fine. FIT just has really specific requirements. As long as you fulfill what they ask for you should be fine. I hope this was helpful!
Hello. I was wondering how you cutout certain images such as the sculpture of two kissing/embracing one another. I have Canva but it only allows me to crop not cut along the edges so its precise. I also enjoyed your video the most. I'm currently working on my portfolio for FIT. Wish me luck:)
Yeah, it is annoying that Canva does not have a tool to do that. What I do is look up " Remove background from image website" some should pop up that are free. It is a bit sketch but gets the job done. lol. Then I just download it and bring it into canva like any other photo. I have faith in you. Good Luck!!
Hi Anna, your video is really helpful I will use yours as a guide as I’m applying for fashion school. I also want to ask a question about the video part. Do I have to film each style on my portfolio. I will really love to get a feedback from you🙏🏻 thank you
Hey, I am not sure if I understand your question. You don't have to film your portfolio. Just take pictures or scan everything that you make. Let me know if that answers your question.
where do you include the text that's required? For the mix/match....the inspiration/who/where are they going and then for the designs...the two sentences that inspired you?
Hi Im a highschool student and I want to start making a portfolio but there is something I wonder about are we designing other clothes by the same mood board as mix and match or can we make different collections with different moodboards
For the mix and match it should match the mood board but for the other drawings it does not need to match the mood board. I just made all of mine match because I wanted it to be more cohesive.
Can you tell are there topics for particular projects for undergraduate program international student ? Or we can choose our own topics ? And any more tips for 2025 admission?
im so confused about what exactly to apply for as a beginner between the MFA and BFA AAS. Also is there a specific area you apply for? Im super into haute couture and not sure where this would apply to.
So you start by applying for your AAS and then when you are done for that then you apply for you Bachelors. The first two years are just general fashion design classes then you choose a specialization for your later years. That is where you could focus on more haute couture type stuff.
I would say look up pictures of fashion croquis and practice replicating ones you like to help you understand the proportions. That is what I did and it was very helpful. Best of Luck!!
Pay online classes. There’s a good one from Udemy. I have zero drawing skills but if you take online courses they’ll teach you technique to draw a croquis and add your clothes on them.
@PoojithaKambalapally can we please discuss about the portfolio requirement for MFA Fashion Design for Fall 2023. I am confused about the requirements mentioned in the site.
I did not know how to draw croquis at the time. I just watched videos and traced croquis until I got the basics. For your portfolio you cannot trace croquis, they have to be your own.
Yes, So for part of the portfolio they want to see you make a small collection that has pieces that are made to go together. Then they just want to see some other random fashion artwork that you have done. I just decided to make mine all go together. Let me know if this answers your question
Are the fashion schools looking for more simple desings in the flats?? because i havent seen many complicated or elaborated designs, its a rule?? Or why is it like that?
Yes, I just used watercolor. It was the kind that comes in tubes so you can mix colors. You can use what ever some people used markers and others did it digitally. I would play around and see which one you enjoy and feel like communicates your ideas most clearly.
hi! it says for Fashion Design AAS that we're required to do a sewing project for the portfolio? im absolutely afraid as I haven't sewn anything. What do I do?
Yes the requirement was to do sportswear for the year that I applied. Sportswear in fashion means pieces that you can kind of wear through out the day like going to work and out to dinner. It is different than athletic wear if that was what you were thinking. I hope I understood your question correctly.
I was wondering can you also do a mood board for interior design? Im planning on apply to FIT for interior design and will like to do a mood board for it but I don't know if I should.
if you don’t mind me asking, could I ask how old you are? are you applying immediately after high school graduation or do you currently go to another college or work somewhere? I’m just wondering how I could handle paying for it
Yeah, I am 19. I graduated this spring. I lucky to have some help from my parents so i am able to go right out of high school. I know there are campus jobs you can apply for amd it is also completely normal to have a gap year or two for work. I know a bunch of other kids who did that. You can also just do a two year program which is what most people do. There are a lot of options. I hope that answered your question. And i wish you luck!!
I don't know for sure because I am not an international student. Just go to their website and look up how to apply. The school is called the fashion institute of technology.
I was not good at sewing when I applied. Your garment should look nice, but you do not need to know a ton to be able to apply. Just show that you have some ability. They also don't expect you to know a ton about fabric so I would not worry.

I want to do a new bachelor in fashion, cause I never liked the other one. But I'm already 25, and master degrees required for all the knowledge we learn from bachelor degrees :/
I know this might be an extremely dumb question but i just need to know what do people mean when they say they got accepted into like a certain season program like fall 2022 or spring 2023 does that mean you only get to go to that semester? Cause i thought FIT and most colleges was way longer than a semester lol i know this question is dumb but i just dont know (also my english isnt that good so sorry if there are any mess ups)

@@annahudson4692 Omg tysm for letting me know, and I'll do my best!! Congrats on getting selected btw, hope your first semester goes well!! :3
hi i am also going to FIT majoring in Fashion Design this Fall. Hope to see you on campus
Omg so excited
Hi thank you so much for making this video - it was really helpful
I am so glad this was helpful to you! To be honest I don't remember having to change the image size. It just has to be able to upload to the slide room (which is where you submit your portfolio). So other than that I don't think that it really matters.
Love that pillow also 😍
We are timmy stans up in here
thank you so so much for this video! im from lima peru and here theres lit no one that could help me:( im applying and hope to get it! thanks again!
I am so glad that you found this helpful. Thank you for letting me know!! Best of luck

I am so glad!!
Than you so much for explaining everything, I this is so helpful for me, I am through the making of the portfolio.
I am so glad that you found this helpful, and I appreciate the feedback. I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks for the tips... I'm trying to apply to a fashion school please wish me well.i enjoyed your video
Yay, I am glad this was helpful, and best of luck, I believe in you. :)
Thank u so much for ur video, truly
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much literally
I am glad that it was helpful you are welcome
i am a senior in high school and i’m going to be apply to FIT for the fall semester in 2024. i’m trying to major in photography. the only thing i’m worried about is i don’t have too much experience with a professional camera. do you know if FIT is strict with knowing background knowledge? like for example if you’ve only taken photos from a digital I-Phone.
You may be able to rent a camera at your local library if you're interested!
Hi! This video was so helpful thank you so much! also, how long did it take you to finish portfolio?
I am so happy this was helpful. It took me about 2 weeks, but I had done my sewing projects before hand. I would recommend giving yourself more time than I did. lol. Best of luck and if you have any other questions feel free.
hi what website did you use to find the scanned fabrics? and what type of pencil did you use for the sketches? Loved your video
Your drawings are just gorgeous 🥰😍🥰😍
Thank you so much 😀
Hey, this is so cool!
Have a wonderful day and thanks again❤️
thank ou so much btw you are so prettyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Thank you you are so welcome!
Heyy this was wonderful video XD
but I was just wondering that can you get into fashion schools like parsons, fit just after high school or do you have to do some programs or courses??
I will be overwhelmed if you answered my query. ♡♡
Thank you for makin my confidence go high by just watching this video. ♡
I am so glad that you found this helpful. You can go to FIT right after high school. I did not do any programs or anything before hand so you should be fine. I wish you the best of luck!!
hi, your work is amazing! did you prepare this for the bachelors or masters there?
This was just for undergraduate.
Did you sew all the outfits you drew?💕❤️btw love youre content!
Thank you. I did not sew all those garments but I would love to one day.
@@annahudson4692 thank you so much for replying ! what do you mean by 11”x14” though? can you please specify if it’s A4 or A3
Such a helpful video
I am so glad!!
Hi, Great video! Can you please tell me what kind of paint you used for your drawings?
Thank you! I used water color
GIRL LOL I LOVE UR PILLOW
Heyy ..l Loved your work. Just a question which Medium did you use for your designs?
I draw and illustrate my designs, but I don't know how to sew. Is it compulsory for me to put any of my sewn works on my portfolio
Yes, the sewing portion is required for the portfolio. If you have access to a sewing machine I would still try. My sewing projects were really bad because I had no experience but I still got in. I would make sure that if your sewing is not strong make sure your illustrations are really strong. I hope this helps.
what paint do you use on your sketchbook? so far i’ve been using markers but they shading on yours with paint looks a lot better
Do the sewing projects have to be original designs or can they be anything we’ve sewed despite not being an original design?
They do not have to be original designs. You can use pre-made patterns and stuff. They just want to see that you have construction skill.
I LITERALLY LOVE YOU FOR THIS VID I NEEDED THIS🫶 also I love your Timmy pillow
I am so happy that this was helpful! And yes we are big timmy stans around here lol
hi! did you do flats for the sketches, or did you just do the front and back of sketches?
I did both. For flats I would just look up pictures of how they are normally displayed and replicate it with your designs.
Hi which brand of water color paint did you use?
Good Luck!!
@@annahudson4692 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Thank youuu
hi did u just take a picture of your sketches and uploaded it?
Yes
Hi Anna, your video is really helpful I will use yours as a guide as I’m applying for fashion school. I also want to ask a question about the video part. Do I have to film each style on my portfolio. I will really love to get a feedback from you🙏🏻 thank you
Hey, I am not sure if I understand your question. You don't have to film your portfolio. Just take pictures or scan everything that you make. Let me know if that answers your question.
Great video, I’ve referenced this sooo many times 😅 How long were you waiting to hear news of acceptance after the time of your portfolio submission ?
Hey, I am so glad you found the video helpful!! It was along time. I feel like it was on like April 8th or something.
Which app did you do the mood board on and how did you do the colours
It was on canva. I just added rectangle shapes and filled them with color.
where do you include the text that's required? For the mix/match....the inspiration/who/where are they going and then for the designs...the two sentences that inspired you?
There should be a spot in slide room when you are ready to submit your portfolio.
If you don’t mind me asking did they make you write two essays?
Hi Im a highschool student and I want to start making a portfolio but there is something I wonder about are we designing other clothes by the same mood board as mix and match or can we make different collections with different moodboards
For the mix and match it should match the mood board but for the other drawings it does not need to match the mood board. I just made all of mine match because I wanted it to be more cohesive.
Can you tell are there topics for particular projects for undergraduate program international student ? Or we can choose our own topics ? And any more tips for 2025 admission?
“I mean I got in so yeah” is gonna be on my cap when I do this for myself 🥹
Yes, I love it!
What apps do you use to make your portfolio
im so confused about what exactly to apply for as a beginner between the MFA and BFA AAS.
The timothee pillow lol
we love him
Do you have any advice on how to start if you do not know how to do fashion illustration?
I would say look up pictures of fashion croquis and practice replicating ones you like to help you understand the proportions. That is what I did and it was very helpful. Best of Luck!!
Pay online classes. There’s a good one from Udemy. I have zero drawing skills but if you take online courses they’ll teach you technique to draw a croquis and add your clothes on them.
LOVEEEE UUUUUU
😍
Can you also explain portfolio requirements for MFA in fashion design in FIT which would help me a lot
It might be a few years because I have to finish my associates degree first and then we will see if I get my bachelors.
@PoojithaKambalapally can we please discuss about the portfolio requirement for MFA Fashion Design for Fall 2023. I am confused about the requirements mentioned in the site.
I see Timothee Chalamet in the background! ❤❤❤
we love him
Hi @Anna Hudson did you trace croquis or do you know how to draw croquis
I did not know how to draw croquis at the time. I just watched videos and traced croquis until I got the basics. For your portfolio you cannot trace croquis, they have to be your own.
@@annahudson4692 Thank you for getting back to me. How would they know if you trace croquis
can u explain what's a mix and match? why is it different than the fashion designs?
Yes, So for part of the portfolio they want to see you make a small collection that has pieces that are made to go together. Then they just want to see some other random fashion artwork that you have done. I just decided to make mine all go together. Let me know if this answers your question
@@annahudson4692it does, tysm!!
I wish this had captions 😭
I am sorry, I am going to try to get them for future videos.
Are the fashion schools looking for more simple desings in the flats?? because i havent seen many complicated or elaborated designs, its a rule?? Or why is it like that?
I think it just depends on what you feel like you are capable of.
@@annahudson4692 oh thank you! Never thought you'd anwser, that is sweet of you:)♡
Do you have any tips how to color clothes ?
And what did you use to paint
Yes, I just used watercolor. It was the kind that comes in tubes so you can mix colors. You can use what ever some people used markers and others did it digitally. I would play around and see which one you enjoy and feel like communicates your ideas most clearly.
What platform did you use to create the mood board ?
she said it was canva which is also free
hi! it says for Fashion Design AAS that we're required to do a sewing project for the portfolio? im absolutely afraid as I haven't sewn anything. What do I do?
The design requirements for you were to designs sportswear clothes?? Of it was different?
Yes the requirement was to do sportswear for the year that I applied. Sportswear in fashion means pieces that you can kind of wear through out the day like going to work and out to dinner. It is different than athletic wear if that was what you were thinking. I hope I understood your question correctly.
Girl ur so funny😭😭😂🫶
I'm 23 i can sew but I'm not good with Sketching can i still apply for fashion school? And i didn't do art courses in highschool 😢
can you do your designs digitally?
Yes, you can do them digitally. I know a lot of my friends did them digitally.
Starting with less than 10 days to do it 😓
Did you do finish??
Hey! You did an amazing job! Did you get in?
Yes, I did. We start school on monday!!
😀😃😄
:0
I was wondering can you also do a mood board for interior design? Im planning on apply to FIT for interior design and will like to do a mood board for it but I don't know if I should.
To be honest I am not sure. I have some friends who are in interior design who might know. They are the MESSNER TWINS on youtube.
if you don’t mind me asking, could I ask how old you are? are you applying immediately after high school graduation or do you currently go to another college or work somewhere? I’m just wondering how I could handle paying for it
Yeah, I am 19. I graduated this spring. I lucky to have some help from my parents so i am able to go right out of high school. I know there are campus jobs you can apply for amd it is also completely normal to have a gap year or two for work. I know a bunch of other kids who did that. You can also just do a two year program which is what most people do. There are a lot of options. I hope that answered your question. And i wish you luck!!
How can i join your school please ?i have same little skills .
Apply on FIT's website
How can I apply for the school as an international students and I what’s the name of the school
I don't know for sure because I am not an international student. Just go to their website and look up how to apply. The school is called the fashion institute of technology.
also how did you get your fabrics?
Some of them were scaned images from online and the others I went to a store.
Do you have to know how to sew clothes and types of fabrics to apply for FIT?
I was not good at sewing when I applied. Your garment should look nice, but you do not need to know a ton to be able to apply. Just show that you have some ability. They also don't expect you to know a ton about fabric so I would not worry.
@@annahudson4692 awww thank you so much!!! It's so reassuring to hear this! Truly, thank you so much for making all my nightmares disappear 🤗 I was literally panicking to death, on the possible outcomes of my ignorance
Hi Anna thanks for sharing, it's impressive. I have a question, do you know if it's possible to apply with already a bachelor degree completed and without a limit age?
I want to do a new bachelor in fashion, cause I never liked the other one. But I'm already 25, and master degrees required for all the knowledge we learn from bachelor degrees :/
There is no age limit so you should be good to apply
hey Anna ! i wanna apply to FIT but i live in central asia
what kind of requirements do they have for out of state students?😅
Hello, I think it is the same requirements you just have to pay more :(
I know this might be an extremely dumb question but i just need to know what do people mean when they say they got accepted into like a certain season program like fall 2022 or spring 2023 does that mean you only get to go to that semester? Cause i thought FIT and most colleges was way longer than a semester lol i know this question is dumb but i just dont know (also my english isnt that good so sorry if there are any mess ups)
Fall 2022 means your semester will start in fall 2022 :) and spring 2023 means your semester will start in spring 2023.
Btw did you apply to Fit?
is it okay if we don't have real fabric swatches?
I think so I don't know what were on the requirements this year but I used some digital swatches in my portfolio to apply.
Hey so I’m currently in high school and wish to apply for F.I.T I’m not sure about the grading requirements but I average around a Low B, but my current report card Averages a strong B I was wondering on gpa requirement as well as deadlines I’ve done my researched but couldn’t piece it all together. If you could provide me with anything it would be extremely helpful and I know I’m really late but please
I think the application is due in January so you have time. If you have Bs you should be fine you just need to make sure that you have a strong portfolio. I hope this was helpful.
