- 17-year-old Ethan survived an unprovoked knife attack after which he was ignored by passers-by, and presumed responsible by hospital staff.
He reveals the pain and frustration of a teenager whose character is rendered invisible - hidden behind the racist stereotypes that people see instead; a reality for so many young men within the black community.
Thank you for having the courage to tell your story. We see you young man. Stay strong.
Thank you, Ethan. Thank you for sharing your experience instead of burying it deep inside you.
This is such a brave but heart wrenching story. As a mother who lost her own son to knife crime in an unprovoked attack I salute that you have taken such an horrific incident and used to it to create awareness. Through your words the adults within the community must reflect and evaluate their own biases formed against young people. Irreguardless of the colour this was a child seeking assistance from members of the public and being ignored. What a disgusting and sad state of affairs.
Victim shaming is dispicable. Had it been their child they would have wished for a member of the public to intervene. Keep up the good work young man. The walls of stereotypes, miss conception, biased both concious and unconscious must tear down if we are to win at this fight in tackling serious youth violence in the community.
I stand in solidarity with you and to campaign against serious violence. Keep sharing as we raise our voices in harmony to meet the needs of our children and young people effectively.
Powerful message. We need the wider media to listen and push this type of content which will eventually begin to change to perception of young black men and the black home/family in general.
Gonna show this to my friends.. It's so unfair. I admire you for telling your story, you are not invisible, I see you and I feel pain in my heart and wish I could make everybody look beyond the surface. We are after all the same. One love, one life, peace ♥️🙏
It's a great story, and one that needs to be told and heard. It's not easy to have to do it but people need to have it thrust forwards to them.
Ethan your story touched me in so many ways. I'm sorry that society has let you down and made you feel that your not good enough. You are everything and more ✊🏽🤴🏾
heartbreaking. you are a brave young man. make me cry that people ignore i would not do that Ethan, not everyone is like that i promise you.
How I wish I could say thank you to this boy for taking the courage to come forward and share his story. How brave of him. This young man can be so proud of himself, for this not only helps people in a similar situation but also those who judge because they don’t know. They will think differently now all thanks to him. I will think differently. This attack wasn't his fault. There was nothing he could do. But his response is everything and it makes his beautiful mind shine through.
This is so sad, I really don't know why they would do that to you. He's related to me.
A powerful video, detailing an issue which plagues our community, hopefully a change will soon come. Thank you for sharing
Well done Ethan, you have exposed a common abuse of our young black people. We love and have faith in you to make a difference throughout your life. Keep on doing what you're doing and supporting others to 'idolise' real black achievers, instead of celebrities
Keep your head up as you cannot be invisible to your own.
Salute to you Ethan for being brave enough to tell your story!!!
Ethan your courage is inspiring. Stay courageous and inspire your generation to great things!
We are close to you, brother. Blue skies are coming
This was really good
Powerful stuff. The media obviously play a huge role in stoking the fire, but grime hasn't helped.
Powers to this young man!
