My polish grandmother survived the german occupation, was very strong woman that was never giving up. Her brother was a pilot fighting in "Battle of Britain". She has never found him, there was no information about him to find. She passed 13 years ago away. Writing this comment makes me wanna cry.

They more or less built it from scratch..with neither man power or money to do anything,it must have been a massive undertaking, The country still hasn't got back to strength, even today it is noticed that Polish people go to other country's to live and work for next to nothing..so sad..
@@carlwilliams9306 Yes in a way Poland is still recovering... the cities have been rebuilt... but young Polish people are still emigrating abroad and the economy is also weaker than it should be because of the Nazi era/and Soviet Union. Poland has suffered a lot.
When the Red Army entered Warsaw in mid-January 1945, there were approximately 2,000 (!) inhabitants in the city. It was a very cold winter, and they had been hiding in the basements since the 2-month uprising and then the period when the Germans destroyed Warsaw. In 1939, Warsaw had 1,400,000 inhabitants. The Soviet army stood on the other side of the Vistula River from early August 1944 until January 17. They endured the nightmare of the uprising in the city, the murder of its inhabitants and the period of destruction of the city. They also did not consent to Allied planes helping the insurgents make stopovers. They entered these ruins when the Germans, tired of destruction, left them. The same fate befell other large cities - Poznań, Wrocław, Gdansk, Elbląg, Szczecin, Olsztyn, etc. Smaller cities too. The entire amount of reparations from Germany was taken by the USSR. According to the arrangements at Yalta, Stalin was obliged to divide the money among the countries that were included in the Eastern Bloc, but he did not do it.
To put it into perspective 90% of all buildings were destroyed the entire historical center was erased It's a testament to Poland's people that they rebuilt their city to an almost 1:1 replica of the original city.
Heartbreaking to see how such a big beautiful city got destroyed by the Germans.
Stop only complaining about the Germans, the Soviet degenerates also took a part in the destruction of Warsaw.
