Worked in a bodyshop as a combination tech. We used to do a lot of theft recovery and airbag thefts that required dash replacement. I averaged 4 a week, mostly Maximas(Bose sound systems, and airbags) and Lexus. Never had a helper. You bought back memories.

Brings back memories of me doing a heater core on my 1981 Ford LTD back in the mid 1990's. Lots of work. Dealer had quoted 11 hours I think. It was just think it through, and just do it! That was back in the days before UA-cam. Happily a buddy was service advisor at the Ford dealer, he lent me the factory Ford repair manual for a couple days so I could find all the hidden mounting bolts! Took some of the initial stress out of the job.

I used to service ambulances and I hated replacing evap and heater cores on them. It took an hour to remove all the switches and junk before you could even begin , not to mention all of the extra hoses and crap under the hood. A Dodge was child's play after working on a Ford E van. Vanessa was a great help to you again. Give her a BIG thumbs up for us.

It's so super simple to get that steering column out at that point.

I know this video is a couple years old but I really enjoy when your family comes on screen. It's like taking a break for comedy and a big helping of feel-good Americana. The audio levels and your camera work or camera placement and centering the frame w/o loads of adjusting is awesome and enjoy the running commentary.

I did the evaporator on my 2005 Dodge Dakota. Similar to this Ram here, except: I had NO helper, the seats had to come out so I could drop the colum,n (and for me to fit under the dash, since I weigh twice your weight, Eric) and those DAMN red interlocks on the various connectors. So it took me a WEEK to do! But I got it done.

I did a heater core on my uncle's 2004 Jeep Liberty in the winter (15F (-9C)) and in an unheated garage; it was a fairly easy job but the cold made it more difficult. my fingertips had no feeling so I was all butter fingers dropping fasteners a lot.

+James Schrumm I remember way back in my younger days... que in woodstock music... I replaced a radio in my Firebird and after everything was put all back together the radio didn't work. Worked fine putting it in but after the last screw was tightened it all went south including me. i was pumped with frustration and tossed my favorite screwdriver into the street. And of course it ended up rolling into the sewer drain on the side of the street. c'ya screwdriver.
After an hour or so of fiddling with this and farting with that and my anger level reached a 20 on a 10 spot gauge scale, i found the issue was my radio fuse was bad. It looked good and tested good using my dollar two ninety eight DIMM. The problem was that the fuse was all good when doing quick no load tests but when it had constant power it warmed up and the ends expanded enough that the connection inside the fuse separated at the base. C'mon really who would know it would break where you can't see it? I use to think they only melted in the middle. Replaced the fuse and cranked up Led Zep.

What a nightmare of a job, even though your customer will be charged, no one I know would even attempt this repair. They would refer the customer to the dealer. I wonder when the heater/cooler box is installed at the factory? I think they install it never to be touched again. You have a lot of patience not to mention a great memory of the disassembly and assembly of this job. Great video, part 1 and part 2.

Cooling season is over. Better to bring it in next spring and get it ready for the summer. FYI on a BMW if the condenser fan is bad, the dme will not allow the compressor clutch to engage. The Dme send a pulse to turn on the fan and if the fan spins, it generate a voltage which the DME sees as being good.

Cool camera details. Owner should have requested the condenser fan be replaced since you did all the work to get it on the ready and figure out the problem. I would have wanted it done so that the Air and Heat system was 100% done when I picked up the car and paid the, likely big, repair bill. Next the customer should head over to the detail shop and have the pig cleaned up some.

You are correct. The add on accessories wiring is like the remote start wiring you see. It is crappy. Scotch lock connectors and wire nuts. Either from a contractor or the city radio people. I will have to send you some pictures. I had an ambulance last week that would not go into high idle when the parking brake was set. These units have two alternators and when all the lights and such are on and they are setting at the scene they need the higher idle to keep the batteries charged. It appeared that the switch was defective turned the the green wire with the black trace was broken in two due to the way the installer taped the wire areound the wiring harness.

+South Main Auto Repair You may not want to ask for swag though because with 10,000 channel views each day you will probably get more than you want.

Sandbag1300 Well I don't wanna seem like I am asking for it, it is just some people message and email me looking for my info so I thought it may make it easier if some one wanted to drop something in the mail. What is your thoughts on it?

Since you do business out of a real shop, people may want to get in touch with you. That is a good thing. Definitely add the P.O. box to Facebook and the BBB, if possible because it is missing. Also, add your address and PO box to the About page on UA-cam. You will get correspondence, items, and new walk in business naturally which is great because people that watch your videos can easily find you. If you ask for stuff you will get 100x more than you ever wanted and the post office will ask you to purchase a much, much larger P.O. Box.

+Sandbag1300 All done, as far as the BBB I am not a member or at least not any more. What are your thoughts on that? The ladies at the post office love it really, we are a small town so when I get in a package from Hawaii and it is full of candy and stuff we all get to try it :) Plus it keeps them in business too .

Always remember that they assembly on of these every 45 seconds! I mean a completed light-vehicle exits the Final Assembly Line every 45 seconds. That means the installation of each sub-component has to be done in 45 seconds. I worked on a Final Assembly Line for a year. It took six stations, two people on each side, to complete the installation of the dashboard. They had an overhead powered hoist to insert the dash. 12 people * 0.75 minutes = 1 person 9 minutes. Indeed this is a gravy job.

PITA procedure. Been there done this. I don't care for the specra heather core. Heat output is lower than OEM. Might not be a big deal for some. But if you bomb around in -20 with a diesel that takes its sweet time warming up or drops 10-15 degrees at idle for extended periods you can tell. Flip side the OEM core price is full on ridiculous.

Chevy truck (my 2003 Silverado 1500) you have to pull the steering wheel. There is a bar on the underside of the dash that runs under the steering column. Pain in butt. I just put an ac evaporator in mine earlier this summer with a friends help.

Question.....How do you know if your air bag would work in a wreck, I drive a 1995 Tacoma, great truck no problems, But I always wonder if my air bag on the steering wheel would work. My code reader dosent have any air bag stuff on it.
Also be careful while your under a dash on your back make sure your whole back is supported, If the lower part is hanging out, you can pinch a nerve. I did it on the floor of a Vista Cruiser Station wagon. I was trying to find the fuse box. 6 months of the worse pain. And the way you have to move around while working, that would not be good.
    Green Gobbly Goo.....Priceless

+Charles Miller Wish I could watch my back all the time sir but hey I just keep going till I can't then it will be on to something else I guess. As far as the air bag... have you tried wrecking it yet?

Your to darn good to go do something else, But I'm sure you would be good at many different things. You remind me of a good friend of mine back in the day that was a natural at computer coding, He would get into a zone, and it was like a computer programming a computer, really amazing to
watch , I'm sure you go alot slower while filming and explaining your steps.
I'm in the process of wet sanding my Z with 1200 and doing a mechanical compound and wax.
