- Randomland is back at DCA, Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, to shed a little light on how we FINALLY got a Dark Ride attraction based on the 1989 Disney animated classic, the Little Mermaid!
Replacing Whoopi Goldberg's "Golden Dreams" this undersea adventure takes guests into the Heart of Ariel & Prince Eric's adventures. And of course, we spotted another animated "Hidden mickey" character in the ride as well!

Thanks for watching!
I'm stoked you mentioned Mr. Limpet. He's actually been there since the ride opened. If you're wondering why he's there, well he was in the movie too at the end of the song Under the Sea. Look for him mixed in with all the fish. Placing him in the movie and the ride was Disney's way to pay tribute to Mr. Knotts for all the past work that he did with Disney.
When I first rode this ride I was amazed at how well Ariel moved. I'm still used to the Pirate animatronics so her fluid motions really threw me for a loop.
i just loove Ursulas animation. so smooth so fluid so realistic that is scares me with amazement
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels.
Actually, Mr Limpit has been hiding in the ride since day one. Ariel's hair during the Under The Sea celebration is one thing that's changed since opening day. Her original hair was swirled up ontop of her head, looked better and wasn't as bulky. I have video of it which was recorded during the attraction's opening month back in 2011.
I was *SO HAPPY* when this attraction opened!
It's amazing in DCA & WDW
Please do a video about the original DCA (The Sunshine Plaza, Hollywood Pictures Backlot, etc
my family and i had annual passes for a few years before during and after the opening of DCA one of our favorite things to do to escape the heat was to see the golden dreams show. after not having a pass for year then getting one again in 2013 little mermaid ended up being my new favorite escape. my favorite thing is to dance like an idiot during the under the sea part then just stare at ursulas chin jiggle (the animation is incredible!)
Wow I went to DCA in 2003 when I was in 2nd grade and saw golden dreams and went back to DCA in 2010 and saw them building the little mermaid ride and never thought anything of it, but this video just brought back a childhood memory I completely forgot.
Gotta give Omnimover props to Adventure Thru Inner Space, which opened 2 years before The Haunted Mansion; plus, that ride, which doesn't exist anymore, only gets a 5 second tribute during the "Remember...Dreams Come True," fireworks show.
I love all the little graphics and animations that are in the videos now Justin! They look super cool!
Dayum, those Animatronics were really impressive. I think this is the first ride of its kind that genuinely impressed me.
Justin..i like the new Intro :)
-Stone
I do to.
There's also a little Hans Christian Anderson cameo at the end of the ride. A picture of his profile is on a little cabinet on the wall plus what looks like the original artwork of the little mermaid. Pretty cool!
Golden Dreams was my favorite show in DCA! Told more on California than what can Little Mermaid can do, wish it was realed on DVD. GD, RIP....:/
According to the "ride through" on the DVD, the original concept for the ride would have used overhead monorails like Peter Pan and would have been multilevel so you really did go down to go under the sea. I remember seeing that it would have gone past Ariel and Eric in the boat and then come back around underneath them.
jtkirkfan2002 Hey what up? don't see you on N.B any more just got sick of lisa.
Obama Failed America Yeah, the doctor said I should avoid stress. Is Lisa still trolling there?
O yes Lisa sure is, but there a new crew on N.B right now taking to her, and she block me, so i can,t see her C&P, How ever after removing many of her C&P she post less of them now. before she block me lol! also marto880 got sick of her to and off N.B to, lol! so i drop in and have so fun there, lol O bye the way, you may like to add this channel if you like, Liberals Suck, soupertech new channel, ua-cam.com/channels/chXZdsk9VfCsrkPSG1OO5g.html
FINALLY someone who acknowledges the existence of Mr. Limpet!
My family and i love your videos dont stop doing this! We find you so funny so keep it up, lots of love from the UK
Hendrickx Family x
I rode this ride when I went to Disney World in January and it's literally the exact same ride without Mr. Limpet and a better queue. But it was still as fun!
Mr Limpet has been there for some time. Love that ride
I love this ride! One of the better rides at DCA.
when ever i ever go to dca i always go to this ride
Like the new intro
Wow, you did a fantastic job with the new intro Justin :D
Thanks to you and the LFDP gang for all your vlogs and the great fun and thoughts that come with it :)
Greetings from Germany! René
Do a comparison of the old sleeping beauty castle and the new 'updated' one??!!
awww :) the little mermaid was always my fav disney film too!! ^_^ oh i remember the virtual ride though on the dvd too :D
oh yeah and king triton on top of the building used to be in disneyland in the area that is near pixie hollow nice to see then reuse things
Keep up the great work Justin!
wow I remember the golden dreams thing. only because when I was in high school I got to record the theme song for that. I think they were going to use it for the program. It's been over 10 years so I don't exactly remember.
I really enjoy this ride. I also really enjoyed this video. good job!
Thank you for making me smile
Yay, another vid to watch!
Swimingly good episode Justin!!
Im so happy you still make videos! subbed!
Your videos are always great
Mr. Limpit was there when we were at the park in 2012.
Holy crap! This is identical to the ride in Walt Disney World. The only thing that's different is the name
"My wcw" funny because it's actually Wednesday haha.
Anyways nice video as always Justin! :)
The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite Disney films.
I have that edition of The Little Mermaid on DVD and I remember watching the virtual ride through before the actual ride became a reality. I never did see Golden Dreams, but I do remember walking by it. When this ride was put it, it started to feel like Disneyland was seeping into DCA, which is a good thing in my opinion. It felt like Pixar was showcased in DCA away from Disneyland, kind of like a separate venue, which isn't a bad thing I guess, but I do like how this ride helped to blur that line. Granted there was the Aladdin stage show and the animation studio showcase building (where I LOVE doing the voice over in Ursula's Grotto!!!) and perhaps a few others, but this ride and World of Color I feel helped round it out a bit more.
They've changed this several times,I remember the big brouhaha over her "ice cream hair",which apparently caused great dismay. They've actually changed it since you filmed this vid! They just posted a side by side comparison vid of the ride before March, and as it is now, on the MiceChat channel. They added some figures and totally improved the lighting, the underwater scenes look more,uh,underwater. That whole scene has more of the classic dark right black lighting too
Thank you for sharing i have never been on this ride
Great intro as it is very authentic and lively. Keep up the good work.
I've been on this rode last year and it had a technical fault when we were in the under the sea section and the music got a bit repetitive after a while luckily the staff did turn it off and we got evacuated but that was fun as I'm disabled and we had to a little longer for everyone else to get off
I was hoping you were going to talk more about the theming, especially in the queue area. But as always - great job!
Really love the videos Justin, Keep it up :)
GREAT VIDEO
Finally new video !!
You should do a video on the Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland, which is now Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
I see you got a new opening to your videos. That is awesome. A video at DCA, I have been waiting for that. YES... This was a great video. :)
Hey :) I subscribed today ! And have been binge watching your videos for about 2 hours lol .
Luv your videos!!!! Your awesome!!!! :) Even my 5yr. old loves them!!!! Keep them coming!!!!!! 😁
Awesome! I love the Little Mermaid, I hope to go soon & see it for myself :)
I do enjoy that ride!
loving everything like always, but the ending....where are the bloopers?
The new intro is sick!!!
ahhh i miss this place, i havent been here in like a month :,(
New intro? I love it :)
awesome video! i always love watching them! i was wondering if you know what happened to the Maliboomer.... it was one of my favorite rides!
i recently went with my school to disneyland and they were all impressed with the cool things i learned from you! like the echo spots outside of innoventions!
Mr . lipid was there since opening !!!
You should do more DCA stuff 😊
Lol that guy in the background tho xD
Btw luv ur vids!
Oh he's your buddy haha
***** LiveFastDiePoor Enjoyed the ST Generations reference with Whoppi and the space-time continuum! :)
HAHAHA Tyler... It's like my old Ska Band, "Under The Ska!"
Great video :)
1:47 Some other Vlogger just filmed you and then turned his camera on selfie stick back and kept filming himself. Vlogception!
Great new intro :)
Yay! A new video! :D
Aw man, I miss the bonus footage at the end.
Hey randomland have you thought about going to Santa's Village in Skyforest just above Lake Arrowhead. I hear that it is going to reopen in August. I do know that it originally opened in 1955 months before Disneyland. I would love to learn more.
I've always thought the animatronics on this ride looked a bit...off?? The animatronics on Disneyland Hong Kong's Mystic Manor look a lot more natural, but I may be prejudiced, as I'm obsessed with Albert the monkey. It seems DisneySea and Disneyland Hong Kong have much more tech-savvy rides than we do here in the states.
Aw, you missed my favorite Easter Egg on this ride. Just before you get to unload, there's a little cabinet mounted on the wall with two pictures on the doors. They depict a silhouette of Hans Christian Andersen, and the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen Harbor.
LOVE!!!!
The incredible Mr. Limpet!?! How have I never seen him? Where is he? TLM is one of my fave rides & she's my WCW too!
When you're in the under the sea area, as you're almost leaving the room look behind your shell and he's there c:
I will definitely look for him next time I'm there! Thank you
you're welcome! Took me awhile to find it :c
0:45 February 8 is my birthday! Im going to Disneyland on my birthday which is in a few days hehe
Out of curiosity, I noticed the King Triton statue on top of the theater's arch is that the old statue from the Triton's Garden?
How come, whenever I introduce myself, people say, "Oh, Erik... like in 'The Little Mermaid'"...and not, "Oh, Erik...like that one cop from 'CHiP's'"?
I rode this ride for the first time, last June, and I was amazed...up until the end. I kinda wanted to see "Mega-Ursula"...
P.S. I have been falling sleep each of the last 2 nights watching old videos of Bob Ross paint mountains. He has a relaxing voice.
What painters do you like nowadays? I like Kevin Hill, but i'm a rookie painter, I don't really know what's "good". Just watching Bob Ross got me interested in maybe I could do that for a hobby.
+Erik James bob ross is the guy with the afro right. if yes, he is what got my into art
Yep! The guy with the fro, who never made a mistake- just happy accidents.
My favorite part is when they are in the boat.
Love it💖😽
Love your vids, man. You have a cool, sort of sarcastic/dark sense of humor, which I can dig.
Anyway... I noticed that even the ride added the controversial female "toy" in the golden castle thing... check out 3:50 =P
I go on this everytime I go to DCA but I can't help but the think the Ariel animatronic is a little freaky. It's so realistic lol
Bay Area in the house!
Can u be in Disneyland in May?!?? I wanna see u there!!!!!!😊😊😊
soo what happened to the golden gate bridge? i noticed it was gone when i was there last month.
But the dole whip hair, you can't forget about the dole whip hair.
Mr Lippet has been there since the ride opened
It would be awesome if Justin went to disney world.
Mr. Limpet has been there since opening or maybe a little after
Wait there is a little mermaid ride in Florida! Exactly like this
Love the ride but always seemed like it was missing a room.
The only animatronic that doesn't look creepy is Ursula when it really should be the other way around.
Are u going to be at dapper day today?
Wait, what? I had no idea that was there.
ok
***** I went there 2 years ago with my sister. We were trying to do all the grownup rides, since she is usually stuck doing kid stuff with my nephews and their kids.
very pretty
Huggs,silky
I do not like how they made it dark during the under the sea portion. I enjoyed it when it was lit up.:(
I've seen that film about twice. It was very enlightening and beautiful, but I didn't think it belonged in a Disney park. I saw it at around 9 years old, so I was bored watching it. I prefer Ariel's ride ^^
Mr limpet was there from the beginning
Wait where was the hidden Mickey??
I'm just wondering, what's your favorite land at Disneyland? 😄
well I guess opening day was on my birthday ahaha
0:00 Oswald?
