Hi everybody, we in Hungary love to eat this invasive fish in various forms of dishes. One more tip: make sousage from this fishmeat adding some bacon to it. Smoke it, dry it for some weeks. Delicious.

What some of you guys don't understand is that this fish competes directly with the primary food source of every single predator in the Mississippi River; the shad. In healthy streams the shad usually makes up close to 50 percent of the fish biomass in the river system. The shad and the carp compete for the plankton for food. Fewer shad means fewer largemouth bass, white bass, striped bass, blue catfish, flathead catfish, crappie, etc. These carp grow too quickly for these predators to naturally control the carp population.

McDonald’s Burger King and other fast food places can use this to make cheap food for the masses! We if there’s companies commercially fishing for this fish we could control it in no time flat!
This fish could actually be the answer for world hunger, if you introduce it to Africa many people could eat. You could use it for aquaponics farms and don’t worry about the algae because that’s what they eat.
If you catch them you can send them to Venezuela, they would love to eat fish right now, they are going through the worst famine in the history of America, they could also send it to North Korea as a good will gesture to help with their famine problem too!, you could freeze dry it and it would make cheap food for the propers. It can make cheap pet food, or you can can it and just call it river tuna! And sell it to the public!

Eradication is possible, create a market and then open a non restricted commercial season. Commercial fishermen are the very best at eradicating a species

the problem isn't food production we all ready produce enough food to feed the world, the problem is proper distribution.

Has anyone tried using a SOUND BARRIER to keep these fish from migrating. If it works, putting sound underwater is a lot less expensive than electrical barriers in the canals.

lol that lady at 13 minutes saying that they want to make sure we get people out there to create a demand for the fish, and then saying that we need to have an exit strategy when we meet that goal. So basically you're telling me that you want to get people into the market and take the risk investing in your idea, and then once they're making money you're going to tell them "okay, games over..thanks for playing we're done now"......Do you really think anybody making money is going to just abandon the money and time they've invested into their processing plants and distribution channels once they finally established a steady income? Thats one of the most naive things i've heard and that lady doesnt seem to have a grasp on reality. That was a plan that would only work in her perfect world. Theres no way that it will work out that way unless you get a philanthropist to be the main investor in this project. If the person running the processing plant and distribution warehouses wasnt doing it for money and was just trying to save the rivers, then *maybe* will they shut down their business once they've reached their goal and eradicated the fish. But honestly once you start making money and create a unique market from the ground up, you're not just going to walk away from it because that was the vision when you started out......

Both bighead and silver carp are EDIBLE, so why not create a commercial fishery based on them, it's not that hard. Instead of killing them and discarding them, maybe they should start putting them in their frying pans

I know a great recipe for baked asian carp!
    1. Gut and behead the carp in cool water.
    2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    3. Put carp on a oak board and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
    4. Take fish out of the oven, throw it away, and enjoy your board!

Eating Asian carp doesn't sound bad to me. Some people don't like the prospect of eating Bigmouth or Black Buffalo fish either and consider them rough fish, but those fish are downright delicious eating with their white meat, but are also bony like the carp. Sure, I'd eat one of those carp.

Well, if "irradication is no longer viable", as the dude claims, then maybe the Schafer Fisheries man doesn't have to sweat the continuity of supply issue. In fact, progress in reduction efforts would mean a bottleneck in supply to where he could adjust his pricing accordingly. In times when they make a temporary comeback, he can drop his prices and offer special deals. Supply and demand economics.

I thought this video was incredible. I've never seen so many fish before! And I also understand this particular specie is competing for food among other native ones. And it's also causing environmental problems. But what I find more disturbing is calling the fish, "trash fish." Trash has no use - or at least, didn't. Nowadays we can recycle, process trash. I suppose the video has suggested inventive ways of coping with the problem. This I think is positive. So, let's reflect on our words.

This guy is onto something. Although they should only use it for fertilizer or animal food. I would eat it if it were raised in clean non-toxic water. Or they could prepare it and sell it to other countries and send it to the starving in other countries.
    Problem solved.
They could capture some babies and then raise them in clean water for american consumption.

They should harvest them and use them to feed captive whales, sharks, etc. They could even use them for animal food. Other than the poluted water they live in they would be a good source of food. They could transplant babies into clean water and instantly have a new source of food.

I have no problem with the fish being sold, but I do have a problem with them in our waterways. Over fish and wipe them out, then raise them in tanks if you want to sell them. We don't need people assuring their existence in the rivers. I kill these things every chance I get in an oxbow lake nearby. I am working on ways to be more deadly, especially with the low water in the midwest this year.

Hey everyone shut up, I have an idea. We catch boat fulls of these fish through commercial fishing, gill nets, electrofishing and people bowfishing and bringing their fish into processing plants. Then either send them off to chefs like the guy shown here or ship them overseas. If we decide to eat them here it can help the cod fisheries by reducing the need for cod. If we ship them overseas, we can use that profit made there to start to pay off the national debt. If anything the state debt.

they were put their in the 70's to stop another pest: algae
this is done in many countries, as thinking it is an 'eco-friendly' way to stop a pest, by putting an animal to solve it.
this however is a show why you should never use exotic animals, and if you do decide to do it, only use native animals.

Though the name of both the silver carp and the Bighead carp are obviously related to the common carp, they aren't exactly true carp, due to their differences of their physical compositions.
