      Outer circle, superfluous friends yes. True friends no. Too many emotional hurdles to ever truly accept them the way I would the friends I've never had that level of conflict with in the past.

      This episode deserves an award. So brutally honest about so much s-- that goes on between women and in their heads in the most constructive way. Brought up a lot of high school flashbacks from the late 90s for me. You are very lucky to have each other to have this conversation. My two sisters are close enough in age that as the middle sister I was in high school with both of them at different times. They definitely kept me in touch with reality in a way that was (lovingly) brutal at times, but in retrospect, incredibly beneficial to my mental health. They are such invaluable relationships.

      I was going to comment that I was glad to see Whitney try to hold her ground. I found them both to be pretty underhanded on some of their exchanges with each other. Kate came across as fake, and Whitney didn't need to bring up Kate's veneers😅

    Kate made a good point that kinda counters Whitney's old joke about actors being untrustworthy because they're professional "fakers." Good acting isn't about lying/faking, it's the opposite, it's about being fearlessly real, it's allowing yourself to actually have real feelings in front of people. It's the opposite of deception, every actor I know has zero poker face, what makes them good actors is their extreme sensitivity and wearing their feelings on their face kinda goes along with that.

    • @777k_t
      @777k_t 2 роки тому +3

      I agree! Hearing someone else articulate how badly they wanted permission to be evil, and the way she leans into her own fear and becomes a method actor in a way... was REALLY interesting and such a refreshing take.

    This was an AMAZING episode!! Not only was it clearly healing for you both -- but hearing Kate say she wanted people to be jealous... somehow made me realize how my own trauma affected my capacity for intimacy, interpersonal relationships with women & cycles of abuse from men. Light bulb moment for sure.

      I had no idea that Whitney went to a performing arts high school, nor did I realize she want to UPENN (I work there) -- thinking back to episodes from one/two years ago, it seems like Whitney has taken heart over listeners asking for real vulnerability and not the intellectual perspective of her trauma. This episode was incredible

    There is a great deal of learning and healing potential from listening to Whitney's and Kate's conversation. As adults, I think we tend to misremember how vulnerable and confused *we* were as adolescents - partly because we were so eager/desperate to be "all grown up" at the time. I am a high school educator, and this conversation really resonated with my training and my experiences. It is frighteningly easy for adult authority figures to do tremendous harm to the teens in our care. It can come from a clueless mistake, like the administrator who accused Kate of lying about the cyberbullying she experienced. It can come from predatory behavior like the drama teacher's. Or it can be a wide variety of things in between. Those of us who are responsible for kids cannot make ourselves perfect people, but we can keep reminding ourselves of the painful consequences our actions can have on them, even unintentionally.

    Love the podcast and how self aware Whitney is. A couple things I thought during this podcast. Whitney threw out the rhetoric that her abuser must have been abused. That’s dangerous rhetoric to be perpetuating. By that train of thought then Whitney would eventually abuse someone as well. That’s one of the reasons Is was hard for me to reveal my abuse because I was scared people would think, I’d turn into an abuser. Additionally, many times guests will come on and speak their truth but Whitney is quick to shut them down and explain what she believes something actually is. It’s important to be aware that you can be more versed in a particular subject but it doesn’t mean you’re right on everything. Discuss your perspective on a subject without telling someone they are wrong. Food for thought.
