O God of burning, cleansing flame
Send the fire!
Your blood-bought gift today we claim
Send the fire today!
Look down and see this waiting host
And send the promised Holy Ghost
We need another Pentecost
Send the fire today!
Send the fire today!
God of Elijah, hear our cry
Send the fire!
And make us fit to live or die
Send the fire today!
To burn up every trace of sin
To bring the light and glory in
The revolution now begin!
Send the fire today!
Send the fire today!
It's fire we want, for fire we plead
Send the fire!
The fire will meet our every need
Send the fire today!
For strength to always do what's right
For grace to conquer in the fight
For power to walk the world in white
Send the fire today!
Send the fire today!
To make our weak heart strong and brave
Send the fire!
To live, a dying world to save
Send the fire today!
Oh, see us on Your altar lay
We give our lives to you today
So crown the offering now we pray
Send the fire today!
Send the fire today!
Lord send the fire today Amen 🙏

Don't tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead." Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. Joel 2:13

@goldsmithexile - I couldn't agree more. The UK so needs revival but when you read accounts of past revivals they are all characterised by people coming under great conviction of sin, particulary when the true presence of God is revealed. I think Christians in the UK don't want to address the compromised lifestyles we all live. Sin is attractive, if it wasn't it wouldn't have the same hold on our lives but praise GOD it's power is broken through the precious shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is one of my favorite songs next to Ave Maria!!!
Send the Fire/O God of Burning Cleansing Flame

Send thee fire 2day
LOVE THIS SONG!
It's nice to have a good tempo to such a lovely song, and the accompanying pictures are great.
That's right.
❤️❤️❤️
@WaddonRam agree with you fully......sin is attractive and isn't grace wonderful? We know the devil is a liar and God gave us the most precious gift of all.......I would like to see God's people renounce all that the world want us to claim as "an acceptable and chosen lifestyle", for our men to be men of God. To show leadership, I want my children to see what men of God are..........there are no grey areas with God. He is absolute, He is black and white.....He is our Lord, and we are His people
I agree Jill!
i like this songs
This is the first version I ever heard of the song. It wasn't until I joined The Army that I found out there was another version. The original version was very hard to play, as I had the newer version in my head and couldn't get my head around the timing and tempo of the original version.
I think you will find more than one or two words changed. Clearly inspired by William Booth but definitely a new arrangement and song
Amen..
A great hymn - we need that holy fire of God.
But I would change one line - there cannot be another Pentecost -
Sing "As on the day of Pentecost, send the fire today!"
Hey Ian! Stop hair-splitting! You know the song refers to having a similar EXPERIENCE with God, and that we can truly have!

Funny expression. „Stop hair-splitting!“
But you're right.
@Ian Day
Pentecost has been the first outpouring of the Holy Ghost in Church history. And that's what the songwriter is referring to, what he means, that we need another outpouring, another awakening. The following is just my own interpretation, but I believe they were not satisfied with the way it was at that time. They wanted more. They wanted to burn for Him, give their lives, their all to Him to win souls for Him.
They wanted to preach the gospel, but they knew that they wouldn't make it alone.
So they asked for divine help, the genuine of God.
@goldsmithexile
We're afraid of that commitment that would disrupt our too-easy life-styles.
Is there any way to play this Wed night?
Sorry Noel. Having just been invited to speak at a joint Salvation Army Musical event, and warmly received, it is clear to me (and the SA) that this is a re-writing, a modernising of William Booth's tremendous hymn. No-one for a moment has suggested I wrote the original 1894 lyrics. Would this version help clarify things:

I remember singing this for the first time in Byker when you played it on the guitar. Fantastic. Great lyrics and a stirring melody to pray for God's fire.
Sorry Lex, you did not write this song you changed two words from William Booths original version to fit a new tune i.e from "Thou Christ" to "O God". I'll credit you for a new tune, but to claim to have written the song is frankly misleading.
Sorry Robert Farnes, 'O Christ' changed to 'O God' is about the extent of the new words, and a couple of repeated lines to fit the new tune. If you don't believe me check the Salvation Army Song Book!
2nd on the original tune.
Nope. I really love this song, but I like the original tune. Guess I'm too old to be changing tunes. I'm from the old school.
