    Thank you. I have pernicious anemia which is an autoimmune disease. I have struggled my whole life with gut issues. Took 50 years to be diagnosed with PA. Finally my colon perforated and I had 17 inches removed. Thank God I did not end up with a bag. I went on Keto and got dramatically better. Lost 27lbs and had way less issues. Still I was eating some lettuce and other low carb veggies. Eventually these began causing issues again. I was watching a movie. Killers of the Flower Moon which is a great movie but in it the Native peoples were struggling so bad with diabetes. An old wise woman said “you can’t eat like a “white”. Then it dawned on me. I was not made to eat plants. My ancestors are Iroquois, Creek. I stopped eating salad and almost immediately my bloating and trots went away.

    Absolutely! I truly thought my former vegan lifestyle was best for my health but I just kept getting sicker with more and more “unexplained” debilitating symptoms until my doctor suggested I try going carnivore and although I thought he was crazy, it’s totally healed all my symptoms and got me off the biologic medication I was on for autoimmune rheumatoid disease.
    Recently due to financial constraints I had to eat rice and beans again for a week and OMG the pain in my guts left me in no doubt that fibre is the root of all my problems! That’s how I discovered the term “low residue diet” and I much prefer this term to “carnivore” and thank you so much for your great explanation 🙏

    Wow, I have chrons ulcerative colitis and I've only just recently heard of the low residue diet. Not 1 dr or gastro dr has EVER told me this. Quite the opposite, they say you need to eat more fibre to add bulk to your diet so you dont get blockages! I've ended up in hospital multiple times every year for the past 20 plus years and dietitians telling me to eat this and that. Plus I do suffer from anxiety and depression.
    Thank you so much for this information. Big love xxx

    I'm doing an elemental diet for 3 weeks instead. Essential macro and micronutrients absorbed in the first 2 feet of the gut leaving the last 20 feet able to heal while getting the benefits of fasting for gut rest.

    Megwich Joe. I love the idea of more meat but still like my carrots and potatoes. Would juice extraction of fruits and vegetables be good for getting the nutrients without the fiber a possibility? Is the high fiber veg diet of a vegan be the reason they are not too happy?

      David! There was a couple baby carrots in my daughters lunch today! haha.. she cant givem up either! As useless as they are, they are 'fun' to eat lol!
      Juicing concentrates plant toxins and carbohydrate availability and is not advisable or culturally consistent anywhere on the planet.

    This line of thought is interesting, and challenging. I was wondering about the traditional Aanishnabe diet. Wouldn't it be fairly high in wild rice, acorns,and leafy greens in the spring, and berries, nuts and roots later?

    • @JoePitawanakwat

      One of the detriments of the Indigenous food sovereignty movement is constantly and consistently teaching this very idea! The hard fact is, that for hundreds of thousands of years we ate nearly exclusively the meat and fat of animals, N14, N15 stable isotope studies show this very clearly, so does our biology: gut morphology, stomach acidity, morphology of the fat cell.. ect..
      Wild rice, acorns, berries, sunchokes.. whatever this plant food is.. is an inappropriate harken to the very recent past, 7000-8000 years ago. This is also the time when archeological signs of disease begins.
      Simply, if we look beyond 8000 years ago we were eating almost exclusively animals. Do we want to be living the life of the disease burdened Anishinaabe of 8000 years ago? Plant foods are famine foods, there if we need them.. when they become staples they will carry with them the burden of disease.

    boozhoo. I have been enjoying listening to all of the things you have to say about diet. However it seems to me that there is no single diet that is good for everyone. There are many people for instance in India who have been vegetarians for generations and thrive. These ideas may be great for people like us who live in the climates we do. And perhaps being indigenous where you haven't stepped away from your traditional diet too much for too long. I don't know. All these things i would think play a role somehow.

    • @JoePitawanakwat
      @JoePitawanakwat  3 роки тому +2

      Chris!
      I love this comment! Hundreds of thousands of years of N-14, N-15 data show explicitly that we did have one diet and that was good for everyone, it was 80%+animal product. There is no 'one mixed diet' that is good for all because this is new to our species and we haven't had the time to adapt, maybe in a few million years this would change, but not in 30, not in 10,000.
      I appreciate the India comments as well! You are correct in probably one of the most plant based countries.. Interestingly diabetes was first recorded in India, and the Indian rates of diabetes and chronic disease are among the highest in the world, even more than the US! Did you know the chances for Indian immigrants to the PEEL region of toronto to develop diabetes is 100%.. 100%!!!!!!! Being environmentally forced to exercise in India is really whats saving them. In Toronto they lose that and diabetes is right around that corner! I do a lot of work with this data set, it is suuuuper interesting.
      Location does play a role! One of the things we can see is that for our species, those who live in equatorial regions (closest to the equator) eat the most amounts of plant matter, ~80% animal and ~20% plants.. the more you go, north or south, away from the equator the more animal and less plants get.. in the Great Lakes Region and the development of Anishinaabe culture our diet is was pretty much 100% animal and 0% plants.

      @@JoePitawanakwat miigwech for the reply. This is such a fascinating topic. I am Ojibwe on my mothers side from Turtle mountain. I was introduced to plant medicine from my grandmother when i was a small child. I have continued to study it ever since. It's been incredibly difficult to find people Ojibwe people that know much of anything about plant medicine and the traditional diet. I always hear a lot about wild rice and maple sugar but beyond that not much. I have very much enjoyed watching your videos here on youtube, facebook,instagram, and Patreon. It has helped me to piece many things together that was previously fragmented. I especially like how passionate you are about the language and learning the names of the plants chi miigwech.
      That is fascinating what you're saying about the diabetic rate amongst that nationality in that region of Toronto to be 100%! It's almost hard to rationalize that number.
      I recently reached out to an "organic" buffalo farm nearish me to talk about getting the organ meats from them when they butcher. Nobody has ever asked them before to obtain the organ meats they said. Pretty sad.

      I am sorry to hear this, I should be more careful to make sure I say that a properly constructed carnivore diet is appropriate. Initially things can be complex.. in the case of constipation, we are generally this is an issue of jumping right in, when working with folks 1on1 (not making awareness videos on youtube) we are looking at a 6-8week transition period.

      Turn the US food pyramid upside down and that’s what you should eat. Eat mainly meat, eggs, fish, and raw dairy… eat some but not too much fruits and veggies… eat little to no grains, seeds, or legumes.

  • @Jewlz4ever

    What are your thoughts on processed low residue foods like white bread and white rice?

    • @JoePitawanakwat
      @JoePitawanakwat  2 роки тому +2

      As far as residue and the mechanical insult of fiber.. good.
      As far as the pathophysiology of IBD's, carbohydrates are key generators and drivers of these diseases. Via randle cycle and lowering redox potential of mitochondria.
      Looks like a lil bit of a catch 22, but its not because we can get all the nutrients we require from animal products which are free of carbohydrate and fiber.
      Does that make sense?

    • @Jewlz4ever
      @Jewlz4ever 2 роки тому +1

      @@JoePitawanakwat I am not sure what the randle cycle is or redox. But I can look them up if you don’t have the time to explain.
      So would you say all carbs are bad? I tried to eat only meat and eggs for a month and a half but noticed it was raising my stress hormones and giving me insomnia and major heart palpitations (flip flopping and tachycardia). I already have Dysautonomia and POTS (I believe caused by weak adrenals and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). I really want to eat mainly carnivore but find that without carbs, I can’t get past those issues. Any advice? Would a bit of fruit everyday be okay? My glycemic control is pretty bad so honey gives me issues.
