Hi Garden Friends! A great point was brought to my attention. While these bulbs/tubers/corms/bare roots are starting to appear in store now in late Winter, it is too soon to plant these out in cooler garden zones. You can purchase now, but wait until the ground is workable in Spring to plant things like lily bulbs, bare root fruit starts, and perrenial starts. As for the dahlias, canna's, etc, these are not cold tolerant, as such you would wait until after your last frost date has passed to plant these outside. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching. Take care! -Steph
can get a head start by starting them (for instance, dahlias) in pots, but obviously takes space
What zone are you? I’m 9b, can I use your suggestions?
Thank you for your video! I'm about to do an interview for the garden center at home depot and wanted to do some research on their products and the kinds of things I'll need to learn and this was really helpful!!
Home Depot should sponsor you, just saying...
@@jenborn5358 hi, I'm in zone 6b. Let me know what your question is and maybe we can help? Thanks
I’m starting my first shift in the garden centre today and this video is so helpful thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Haven’t even seen the video yet just the” cover pic “ of the video and already excited!!
Love hearing the birds that fly around in there. Great background music for Spring or a springlike day.
Hi Dora! I love it too. They are always in that indoor greenhouse area. Snacking on ripped bags of bird seed lol
Thank you! I don't have a car so it's great to see what's happening out there!
I am in zone 9 and found that my Black Knight Calla's leaves will turn green if it has too much sun, so I keep it in my patio with indirect lighting. It is a beautiful plant, with that crimson flower against the black leaf.
Great tip, thanks for sharing your experience. It is a beautiful plant!
Wow! Your Home Depot vlog is so impressive. Your knowledge is amazing. I am 78, still excited about gardening and cannot wait to get to Home Depot to shop. I loved window shopping with you on my iPad❣️ I grow a garden every year, flowers, vegetables, herbs for cooking and want to try growing a red seedless grape this year too.
Thank you so much Joanna! Thanks for window shopping with me. I've been tempted to try grapes also. My parents have an amazing grapevine.
OMG, I never thought of looking at Home Depot for spring bulbs!! I am headed there this weekend!! I am tired of spending a LOT on shipping and handling and the HD plants look healthy, as well as reasonably priced. Thank you!! 🌷🌷
I totally get it, I don't love spending money on shipping either. Thanks for watching, and I hope you find some fun things!
Good Morning Steph!! Thank you for all this information and your time showing us all this!! I appreciate you!! Blessings!!👍🌹
You are so welcome, thank you so much for you kind words. Its my pleasure!
I am in zone 5b so these are not in just yet BUT thanks to your video, I now know which canna I want…this tells me I need to rush to get it! Lol
Glad I could help, hope you find some things your looking for!
I so enjoy your Home Depot and Lowes videos! I learn so much watching your videos! You have a lot of plant knowledge and I'm happily gleaning!
Hi BeckyLynn, Thank you so much for you kind words. Glad you enjoy them 🥰
I find your info good about looking at bulbs and being aware of weight of package ! Sarah Bernhardt just amazing plant my favorite!!
Hi Teresa, Sarah Bernhardt is absolutely beautiful! Glad the tips are helpful.
@@HookedandRooted thank you I’ve got early Dpring fever we had one 70 degree day now 40😎🌞🫣
I'm in zone 6b here in Western NY and our Home Depots and Lowes don't have ANYTHING out like you do in Mass. So jealous!!
Hi Vanessa, maybe soon 🤞
Santa Rosa Plums are my Fave! I planted one eons ago when I had a house in So Cal. I hope it survived and fed many.
Hi there! Oh so good to hear about the Santa Rosa Plums, I just love plums! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure many have enjoyed the plums of the one you planted.
I think I will try planting a couple of dwarf fruit trees, but don't tell the deer I'm going to do that.
lol yes Jennifer, lets not tell those pesky browsers that were putting out treats for them. Urghh the struggle is real!! I am toying with the idea of adding a couple more established trees this year as my husband has expressed some interest in fruit trees. I added some bare root ones as an experiment last year. Planted 3 apples and a peach. Only the peach and 1 of the apples still had signs of life by the end of the season. It was fun to try, but now I think we'll try more established trees.
Hey Steph use Bayer 3 in 1 for roses on your hollyhocks then no rust and no leaf minor :-) Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the tip. I get rust as well on my hollyhocks.
Great tip! I have some for my roses, good to know its also helpful for hollyhocks! I appreciate it. Thanks for sharing.
@@HookedandRooted Works great on crab apple trees too basically anything that flowers and gets bugs or crud lol
Heading to Home Depot today! This got me excited to check out what they have right now. Im zone 6a
Enjoy Janet, I hope you find some fun things!
I'm in N.Y zone 6a and was their today and was very surprised of all the bulbs that they already had in. I bought some liatris .
I have glads, dahlias and lilies on order but I think I will have to make a trip to Home Depot after watching your video. Bonny zone 5b Canada
Hi Bonny! This is a fun time of year. I always enjoy picking up a couple of packs each year to try out.
Thank you taking us on your shopping trip. At my home depot we only have the bulbs and croms. A few shrubs and perennials. No trees and it seems funny you are in zone 6a and I am zone 7a in the west coast of BC and yet we are concerned that it is still too early for vegetable and fruit starts. Anyways enjoy the rest of your day.
Hi there, Oh thats surprising. We have no perrenials yet, other than the bare roots/bulbs. But we are a zone behind, so probably not until late March/April in our area. But the fruit trees and cold tolerant ornaments started to roll in which is so exciting. When I see those, I know Spring is almost here!
You have the best Home Depot Steph! Mine has half of what yours has! Hopefully they'll get more shipments in the coming week. Thanks for taking us shopping with you. 😊
Hi Mary! I am pretty lucky in that we have a large HD close by. Meaning it usually has a good amount of variety and stock. We live between 2 large cities, and a couple of heavily populated towns, so this one is a good one to have centrally located. I can't wait to visit more often as the season progresses. Its literally one of my favorite things to do when I have a little bit of me time.
Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thanks for watching Wendy!
Thanks for this, Steph! Love watching your big box garden center tours. Can't wait for the next one...
Hi Jolie! And I love showing you what i find. Its like shopping with friends
I think you may have convinced me to plant some spring bulbs and maybe a fruit tree :) Thanks for sharing!
Hi there! These Spring Planted summer blooming bulbs are such a great way to get lots of plants for little money. They take a little bit of time to really get going (a couple seasons) but worth it for how many you get. Fruit trees are great, I hope to get a handle on growing them in the next couple seasons.
I'm so happy I found your channel on UA-cam! I've learned so much from you and love the fact that we're "neighbors" and experience the same southern NE climate! Thank you for this video! I've been wanting a patio peach tree for my landscape and was able to nab one at my local HD this past weekend! I'm so happy!
Awesome Maureen, glad you were able to find one! Thank you for your kind words, neighbor!
Thanks Steph - now I have Hotel California in my head and it will be there for days 🙃 thanks for the tour - you have the best Home Depot and Lowes!!
lol, nothing like an ear worm song, huh Robyn?! Thanks for watching!
My home depot and lowes make me happy when I hear culture club karma Chameleon, Time, or Do you really want to hurt me. 😊
Yay, signs of love, sunshine, and plenty of beautiful things soon. I am in real need of green 🫠.
I want to go buy all kinds of beautiful dirty things now. Thank you for the tour.
I will be going to see what my HomeDepo and Lowes have going on.
God bless and always be safe 🙏 ❤️
Your so welcome Penny! I think were all itching to get out in the sunshine in dirt. Hope you find some fun things up your way!
Because of you, I rushed to my local Home Depot and was able to purchase 9 packs of the canna bulbs & 1 pack of stargazer lillies. I usually don't get there in time for these purchases.
Hi Bertha, Oh thats wonderful. So glad to help! I love doing these videos because I get to bring friends along while I browse or shop.
FYI- I’m in zone 7a, it’s winter now, but some of my bulbs like hyacinths, tulips are coming out, and I actually just transplanted some because the ground is workable now… I learned this from Jeri’s channel actually… I’m going to show this on my upcoming vlog if you’re interested :)
Btw, thank you for showing this! I needed some onion seeds now I know Home Depot has their stuff out
Hi There! Oh how exciting to see those bulbs start peeking through the soil. I just love Spring and the anticipation of all the new growth. Its great that your soil is workable. I grew onions for the first time last year. Mine were small, but I started them from seed and it was a fun experiment. Thanks for watching.
I love your tours!! I was actually surprised to see these beautiful plants are in the stores already🥳 spring/summer is on its way. I am in CT same zone as your are and I'm so excited.
Oh my God! I wish I could get all those beauties in my country. I bought dahlias, hyacints, amaryllis and some narcissus at a very high price. Dahlias never disappointed me, amaryllis just during non rainy season flowered like crazy but got dormant the first year...the other ones hardly sprouted.
Them birds are really chirping!!! I always open a seed cake and push it to the back of the top shelf!!
Always great information.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching Maureen!
Excellent collection of flowers and seeds ❤️
Lovely selection of plants already 😃 makes me so excited for Spring 🥰
Me too Jasmine, me too. I was SO happy to see all of these things in. Just over 30 days til Spring!!
Like the changes, you got a lot done in a short time. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful tour! I just picked up some really cool summer bulbs, corms at Costco from Longwood gardens. Worth having the membership just for these finds. (I hope) I have decided to not do dahlias anymore here in hot humid Midsouth. I would say 1/3 were beautiful but rest didn’t do much. So trying some other things.
Hi Jo! Oh costco always has such beautiful bags of bulbs. I have found Longwood gardens to have great quality bulbs. I have some Astilbe that I got bare root from Longwood in those costco bags that has done so well. As gorgeous as Dahlias are, I'm always torn about my decision to grow them. Its the lifting and storing of the tubers for me. Its very labor intensive which each year passes, I prefer things that are a bit easier. Hope you find some other things to grow that are beautiful in your garden. Zinnas are a great alternative for dahlias, and the Benary's varieties have large blooms.
Have you tried multi grafted fruit trees yet? 4 types of 🍒 on 1 tree! Also plum and peach grafted on 1 tree. Pluot is a cross between plum and apricot. Planted last year and they are full of flowers already so fruits this year😎
I've seen multi grafted apple espalier trees. Very cool! How fun, hope you get a great harvest!
Happy summer, wish you fun, health and success in work.
same to you! Thank you!
I am a forever fan of the Landini lilies. Like a purple-black color.
I am so excited to see what my Home Depot has. Thank you for the video.
You are so welcome!
There are 2 types of garlic - hard neck and soft neck. The hard neck you plant in the fall and softneck you plant in the spring. I'm guessing that was a soft neck type. Beautiful selection you showed. I can't wait til spring!
Hi Kim, This is great information!! I'm new to growing garlic, only having tried it for the first time this fall. Thanks for sharing.
We are having a crazy and cold winter in zone 7a Utah. I visited my HD and they have few dahlias and elephant ears, I am sure they will bring more when it gets warmer; Spring is coming late for us this year. Thanks for making this video, it is so good seeing color and getting ideas for this season.
Hi Johanna, Sorry your having a rough winter. The weather is changing so much. We're in a colder zone than you here in Massachusetts (6b), and we've been having a mild winter. Not even much snow at all, just a couple of flurries that are gone in a few hours. Rather unuasual and strange. Glad you enjoyed seeing the summer bulbs. Hope you find some near you soon. Happy Gardening!
@@HookedandRooted I got few houseplants from my local nursery and Home Depot; I know a lot about roses and outdoor plants but not so much about indoor plants.
Get the Tigridia!!
You will love the flowers. They are so pretty!
I got mine from a local school fundraiser. ( I’m from central Pennsylvania, zone 6)
Thank you so much for the recommendation Roxanne! Good to know someone has growin them and enjoyed them.
Freesia smells amazing. Please try it.
Thank so much! I'll have to give it a try!
Steph, thanks for the Home Depot review I've only looked at the elephant ears for bulbs need to take a closer look great variety.
Hi Kim! Your very welcome. Its a fun time of year to browse the bulbs/tubers, and bare roots to see whats' available. I've grown elephant ears before, they are so fun to grow! Love the tropical vibe.
Hi Steph! Greetings to you my friend and thank you for yet another wonderful video.....I started watching this video and half way through, I could not resist going to HomeDepot to grab some dahlias, so I paused it, grabbed my wallet, phone and out the door I went. Unfortunately, my Home Depot hasn't received their shipment yet, so no damage done yet!!! Lol. I want to get the Thomas Edison, Kelvin Floodlight and some of the single petal dahlias to grow this year. Thanks again for the heads up!!!!!
Hi Juan! So happy to hear from you. Hope all is well. Thank you so much for your kind words. I just Lol'd because I can picture you dropping everything, grabbing that wallet, and running to the store! I hope your store gets a shipment soon! The Thomas Edison, and Kelvin floodlight are gorgeous staple dahlias, classics. And think how beautiful they will look growing side by side?! Lovely!
Love this I’m definitely running out to the HomeDepot this week.
Have fun, hope you find some good options.
I don't know about that exact green gladiolus, but I have grown the green one from Eden Brothers and the green is exactly like that color, it's gorgeous 😍 especially with a pink or purple next to it
Hi there! Cool! Its such a beautiful and interesting color for a flower.
Good to know!
The first inklings of spring!
They already got me and now I have a few potted bulbs to take care of for a few months. :)
(Have you encountered Starfish lilies yet? They seem to be a 'new' thing here in Germany, available among all the usual bulbs.)
Hi Lara, welcome from Germany! I have not yet come across starfish lilies. They sound very interesting!
Wow. What I think is that you must be in a much warmer area than Chicago (Zone 6A). We are not receiving these trees at Home Depot. I was at the Home Depot near me and we did get bulbs but certainly not the variety at your store. I wish Home Depot gave more info about the size of the dahlia flowers on the packaging. Thank you for this. Wonderful video.
Hi Mary! I'm in Massachusetts zone 6b. Hopefully your store gets their stock in soon! I'm sure it depends on the weather your getting in your area. We've had a very mild winter this year. Which is probably why they've begun getting stock at my store. If you look at the back of the cards on the dahlia packaging, there should be a little picutre showing height and width, with some specs. Hope this helps.
احسنتي فعلا هذه الزهور جميلة شكرا لك
Your very welcome, thank you so much for watching!
Just bought five packages of dahlias at Lowe’s. Some the same as these. I wanted relatively low ones that I would not have to stake. Had great success over the past three years with one dahlia, Explosion, which was gifted to me. Bought at Costco by a friend who had one left over. It has prospered to the point where it is about five feet tall, covered in huge flowers. Strikingly gorgeous. So, going to try them in another area of my garden, instead of annuals. I also had my pick of many packages, and you could hold them and weigh the difference in your hand. Most very similar, but a few were heavier. Go sooner rather than later if you want a choice.
Hi Maureen! I'm totally with you on the not having to stake thing. It can become quite a chore. As much as I love the beauty of dahlias, I'm not planning to add many more. The only exceptions are something that I absoltely can't resist, if I get any in a swap or gift from a friend, or like you buy a shorter one I can grow in containers. In my zone I have to lift them after the last frost, and store for winter, and this last season I realized how much effort it was. It was a good realization. Scaling back on dahlias in favor of zinnias! Oh Dahlia "Explosion" is gorgeous, I just looked it up. Looks like a bursting sun! Glad you found the weight of package tip helpful. It has never steered me wrong! Thanks for watching.
I just bought some Cannas, some Lillies, and some Freesias. Any tips on how to store them until they are ready to go into the ground? And, when do they typically get planted? After the last frost date? Thank you for the Home Depot tip. I'm hoping they are good quality bulbs that keep on blooming this year!!
Hi there! I would keep them in a dry, cool (not freezing), dark place. Once your about 4 weeks out from your last frost date, you can pot them up and place in a sunny window if you want to "pre sprout" them and start the growing process. Otherwise you can just plant them out directly in pots or the landcape once your last frost date has passed. Hope this helps.
Another wonderful video! I just ran to HD and grabbed the SB Peonies, Salmon Star & Stargazer Lilies, and Anne Raspberries! Thank you so much for keeping us in the loop! Did you grab anything?
Hi Michelle! Oh yay. Those peonies are GORGEOUS and smell SO good! It may take about 2 seasons to get blooms, but so worth it. I can't wait to taste the Anne Rasberries! I didn't get anything on this trip. I'm feeling out whats going to be available and choose a couple of things after that. I still have Lowes to check out and Walmart. I have many of the varieities I saw at HD already, and I'm trying to not add anymore Dahlias unless I find 1 or 2 really special ones, or swap with a gardener friend. I'm running out of space! Well unless I open up more beds, which my husband is not a fan of helping me remove more grass. Your so welcome, and thanks for watching!
@@HookedandRooted thank you so much for sharing!!! I can't wait to get this stuff in the ground :)
I grew the spiky dahlias and they were beautiful
wow beautyfull 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks 🤗
I have Liatris in my garden and I have to shield them from the rabbits they love them.
Hi Maria, oh thats too bad, I'm so sorry. Those pesky bunnies! Knock on wood they haven't found mine. They keep busy with clover, but I will keep an eye out now that I know they like liatris!
I am headed Home Depot tomorrow!
Wish me luck, I just planted my strawberries 🍓 ❤
Good luck Gloria! 🍓🍓🍓
How would you store the bulbs/tubes until planting? I’ve found it I wait until spring to buy them I’m always disappointed in the
performance. Maybe I need to be purchasing now?
Hi there, I just keep them in a cool dark place until I'm ready to plant them out. Some of the lily bulbs I plant out as soon as ground is soft enough to work the soil, at some point in Spring. Then perrenials, I just wait til after the frost to plant outside directly, or you can start them in some of those nursery pots with potting soil outside in a few weeks once its Spring. They will wake up when its time since they are dormant. Dahlias you wait until your last frost date has passed and you can plant them outside.
With the fruit trees, can I leave it on the pots I live in an apartment with a bit space, but I would love some dwarf so I don’t have to buy it from the store.
Hi there, I do think it would be difficult to keep them happy in a pot long term. However, if you have a big enough container with enough soil, I believe it can be done. They will have to be pruned to size control as well. Hope this helps.
Great tour! Your Home Depot looks nice. Not so fortunate here. I appreciate, very much, how yo pronounce Peony. That is the way I say it as well. Many folks make fun of me because I am a Southern girl.
Hi Ruth! Glad we pronounce Peony the same. I've heard it pronounced different ways. Hope your stores get some stock soon!
Green Star Gladiolus are one of the most resistant to thrips based on official studies. I’m searching them out specifically this year due to that reason. Green Star, Robinetta, Alba, Live Oak, Nova Lux. Brent and Becky’s bulbs carries a few. Wish my Home Depot carrier Green Star gladiolus corms at such great prices!
Thank you so much for sharing, that is very helpful information. I hope you are able to find some in a HD local to you at some point.
Do you need to plant 2 pear trees to cross pollinate like apples? I seen to remember they need 2, but not sure. Glad to find a zone 6b MA gardener to follow, as I am also zone 6b MA!🥰
Hi there, according to google this is what it says regarding pear trees "You have to plant at least two varieties of pear trees, to ensure cross-pollination and fruit production. The trees should be spaced 15-20 feet apart when planted. Lastly, make sure the varieties you choose are compatible with each other."... Hope that helps!
@@HookedandRooted TYVM!
Bonfire Peach is only $40 Online from Willis Orchards. I get all of my fruit trees from there.
Thanks for sharing!
Green bags are good so your TUBERS don’t dry out. You can gently feel the tubers🤷🏽♀️ generally you’re going to get three/four different sizes. You can SMELL if you have a bad bulb or tubers. Remember HD will refund you (up to a year) if you have your receipt. Reach. Enjoy planting 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽
Great tips Angie, thank you for sharing! Happy Gardening!
I know what I’m doing tomorrow ❤️
With fruit trees, you want a DIFFERENT variety that blooms at the same time for polination, not the same variety. Self-polinating trees will produce more fruit with a second different variety tree. Most "dwarf" fruit trees grow 8' - 12' tall. It depends on the rootstock used. If it says it grows 12'-18' tall, then it most likely is really a semi-dwarf tree. All can be pruned to stay 8' tall to make harvest easier, but you'll also get a bit less harvest. In a typical suburban yard you do NOT want to plant a standard-sized tree. The roots grow too wide and could damage your sewer pipes and house foundation. Stick to dwarf or semi-dwarf. However wide the crown gets at full maturity if it isn't pruned, add 10', divide that number in half and you need that much space between your foundation and the trunk of the tree. If you buy dwarf trees, you must permanently stake them. A vertical stake for support and a 45 degree stake for wind. The wind stake can be taken out after about a year.
Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I am interested in getting a couple of fruit trees this year to replace my bare root trees from last year that didn't make it. This will help when deciding. Im only beginning to learn about fruit trees. I do plan on looking for dwarf varities. Thanks again.
@@HookedandRooted Most likely you need to start calling your local nurseries now to find out if they've even ordered any dwarf fruit trees. If not, then you'll have to order online. Do it soon or you'll be out of luck for this year. You can request they not be delivered until a certain date (make it for a week after your last frost date). Dig your holes ahead of time. Make sure there is drainage.
One more thing I forgot is that you really don't need the same fruit tree to pollinate but a different cherry tree. So you can have a rainier cherry tree and then a stella cherry tree near by. That goes for any fruit tree that needs pollination and is not a self pollinating tree. Most DIY growers will opt for the self pollinating fruit tree but in different varieties.
That is correct, they don't have to be the same variety, just the same type of fruit. Thanks for sharing. My peach variety is self polinating, which is great. Self polinating is a good option for growers who are limited on space, but want to have a variety of fruits. Its great to see more self polinating and dwarf varieties becoming more available. Thanks for watching, and for your comment.
We call that white flowers SPIDER LILIES.
actually none of the stores seem to have caladiums yet
I haven't seen any so far.
Enjoy seeing what’s available in your location!! Now to check out HD in my area :)
Thanks Steph, I just picked up some extra Casablancas at my depot last weekend but again the choices were no where near as good as your place. Do you know if Walmart got there bulbs in yet
Hi Pam! Check them again in a week or 2, I bet they get more. My store still doesn't have things like Caladiums and Astilbe, things I know they usually carry in bare roots. So its likely they only just began getting this stock. I'm not sure about Walmart, but I'll be checking in soon!
Hi Steph, Thank you for sharing. I am so looking forward to spring! I'm planning on putting fruit trees in this year do you happen to know what Home Depot sprays their fruit trees with? So many beautiful things. Your Home Depot and Lowes seem to have more than mine. Ours has some I was there the other day. I will have to try New Jersey see what they have. Jersey seems to keep their plants nicer.
Hi Jeanine! Fruit trees are great. I am thinkign about replacing the 2 bare root apples that didn't make it with 2 varieties of dwarf apples this year. I wish I knew what they use, I don't. Hope you get some fun things over in NJ soon! Take care.
@@HookedandRooted.
Steph, do you have trouble with the little red beetle on you oriental/asiatic lilies?
Hi Pam! I have in the past, but not in the last couple of years. We'll see what happens this year. Neem oil sprayed when they start leafing out/growing can help mitigate it.
nothing smells of summer like freesias...
Oh great to know! Thanks for sharing Paulo!
Hey Steph do you over winter your dahlia tubers?
Hi Gwen! I do, I have to lift them in my zone and store them for winter. I have them in a tote in my unheated garage where temps stay 45-55 degrees F. I show a short clip of this in my recent "hellebore" video. ua-cam.com/video/x9680ppGQBQ/v-deo.html at 1:21
Hi Steph !!!
A very informative video as always !
Quick question regarding Asparagus are they resistant to Rabbits ,raccoons , Chipmunks , Skunks , Squirrels and Opossums ?
My home is near a green belt and these critters are always finding ways to destroy my garden :(
Love from Anu @ Toronto
We have a ton of squirrels, they do not bother mine.
Hi Anu! I am not sure which critters stay away from Asparagus. I have an enclosed veggie garden so Its hard for me to say. I believe deer may snack on them, as they seem to like most everything. But other critters I'm not sure. Groundhogs also eat alot. But if you have a small fence or chicken wire you could place around the garden, that could help deter, and keep some criters away. Hope this helps.
I'm just curious and watch your video.
It's fun to see what's available
Sad to see that HD also doesn’t have Caladiums. I saw on the long field website a pop up window saying that there is an issue with caladium supply due to Hurricane Ian. Noticed that people had said in recent videos taken at Costco that the carts had no caladium.
Anyways … I hope to find some
Just saw caladiums at Walmart.
Salem, OR. I believe they have them online as well!
They only just got this first shipment. I'm sure they will get more. I have always seen caladiums and astilbe sold there. My guess is that this was just the first shipment and they will likely get more. But you also may be right regarding the availability of caladium in general due to weather.
ohhhhh already??? Yes that means walmart too!
Best time of year, the Spring anticipation!
I just got the nectarine today, but it’s too tall, can I just cut short to the height i want ?
Just because the stores have them in stock be careful not to plant too soon!!
Would we wait until after last frost date to plant most of these?
Great point! Absolutely. I will pin this comment. Thank you!! These bulbs should only be planted in Spring, when ground is workable. And ones like Dahlias, should only be planted once all chance of frost has passed.
I want to buy the edibnle flowers (viola) from lowes or home depot, do you think i should sincce i plan on eating them?
Hi there! I would say that if you plan on eating an edible plant, it might be safest to know how it was grown. Perhaps try growing some edible varieties yourself. Nastursiums are easy to grow from seed.
I thin rannunculous corms look like baby kthulus.
I am used to menards for my bulbs and i ventured out with walmart bulbs and they did not come out. Who got experience with home depot bulbs.
We don't have a menards near by. But I have had luck with home depot lily bulbs. And I"ve also bought dahlia tubers from the box store. A couple did well, and a coule did not. Its important to inspect the packages as best we can. Not always possible with the darker colored packaging.
My Home Depot doesn’t keep this much stock
Is it too early to plant these? I’m in zone 6a.
Hi, In most cases yes. Please see the pinned comment (first comment). Thank you!
👍💯💚💚💚💚
I object to HD putting out lily, gladiolus and peonies (of all things) and saying you can plant them now: I can’t even dig a half inch into my soil because its solid because it’s February in 6b and our frost date isn’t until April. It’s way too early. PLUS (this is my pet peeve with HD) light requirements are false. All of those plants require full sun (8+ hrs) and it’s misleading to say lilies will do well in part shade when you get scrawny plants with minimal blooms. I bought Yarrow there one year. Label said “full sun to part shade” which is wrong but I didn’t know it until it was too late. Also, I got one of those rock garden trays with 30 little plants years ago but there were no planting instructions so I did what I thought was correct and they all died.
I have my yarrow planted on the North side of my house and it’s more than doubled in size in three seasons.
@@carlinaschipper7790 You also must have it in an area that does not get much water either as I planted mine where my irrigation was on 7-days per week due to one of our droughts. It would have done well on my North side among the part of the yard that gets zero irrigation unless I go out there with a hose or hook up the old fashioned sprinkler. All the HD planting guides are misleading or devoid of specific information. This hurts new gardeners (like myself 5-years ago). Live and learn.
You can pot them up and keep them watered until your proper planting time. It's usually mid May or later for me in my zone 5b. Home Depot supplies for many planting zones. If you were in a zone 8 or 9 you could plant now. I agree with you they should have a warning about if planted too early. If you wait too long you might not get what you want. I have lilies planted under my crabapple tree that do great. Yarrow should do well if planted in full sun unless you live in a higher zone. Just remember every garden is different.
@@SharkSandwich451 I get most of my plant info from Sunset Western Garden book. Then I check online for my Zone. Even tho I don't live in the West nor even the States anymore. I think it's best not to rely on one source of info, for any subject. I'm in Zone 6 as far as I can figure and our planting for Summer bulbs isn't until later March.
I don’t have an irrigation system so all hand watering. The north side doesn’t get watered as often as it doesn’t get as much sun. My bulbs etc. I usually pot up and start in the house since our growing zone is so short (zone 4).
How hard is to grow blueberries and raspberry I live in zone 7b south jersey
Blueberries take a few years to get established from a small plant. Raspberries are pretty easy and quick.
Hi Bill, Not hard at all!! The hardest part is keeping the birds away from eating the fruit before you do. Netting the shrubs helps with this. From bare root, it can take a bit longer than buying a more established plants. Rasberries you can possibly get fruit year 2 from bare root, blueberries, might take longer. Also, prob best to plant 2 or 3 blueberries if you can so that you get more volume.
