- The Spring Flower Kinetic Wood Sculpture is driven by Springs, magnets and belts. A beautiful piece with a 5 to 6 hour run time. Visit us at www.carvedlake... for more information
Wow these are so cool.
What a wonderful video format. Concise and explanation, then just letting us enjoy. Thank you!
This the type of person I want as a neighbor and friend.
To
AntiViGames who asked," How do you prevent the spring from delivering all the stored energy in one go?"
I am going to describe the principle of the motion.
When energy is inputted into the spring by hand, there are circumferential teeth around the spring that are used so that a springy ratchet arrangement will cause the ratchet to dig into one tooth on the release of the input winding and so the spring will not reverse back but is loaded and it stores the energy exerted by the operator. You can hear the clicking sound in this video as he wound it and the ratchet spring goes over the tooth and falls in some space between the teeth and that is the reason why he was adamant about not releasing the spring too fast when winding it.
On the output side of the spring through the gearing and belts, there are similar ratchets called dogs whereby the inertia of the shaped pendulum is the load and the dogs acting on the other set of protrusions on the pendulum will load the spring and this inertia will stop the spring from running away but it will use the controlled force to accelerate the pendulum. At some moment the pendulum dogs/ ratchet is locked and the one-way action of the ratchet will permit the pendulum to proceed in its rotation by freeing it from the dogs/ratchet. The pendulum is not perfectly balanced so that when its inertia loses its energy the pendulum will oscillate and reverses when it will unlock the dog/ ratchet and this will again feed energy into the pendulum to accelerate it when at some angle the dog will unlock the pendulum and lock on to a grounded point. The pendulum will again be free to rotate.
There is a method of how to use two systems operating together to operate two pendulums, but in this case, the second pendulum may be activated through magnets on the spokes of the two pendulums and these react with each other as they pass close to each other and this gives the idea of random motion. Well, theoretically it is not a random motion but the variables are so many that it may be considered as such.
I love kinetic sculptures I love wood can teach me, do you have plans available?
So I have mine. I used only two of the screws because I could not get to the one at the top. Then I used a lot of double-sided tape...don't ask but the end result is it looks and works great. What they don't tell you is do not put this piece of art on a white wall since it's light in color. You should put it on a contrasting color wall as per the instructions. All of my walls are off-white so here I go having to think outside the box again. So I went to an arts and crafts store and got bought a large picture frame that had the black backing to it and I plucked that out of the picture frame and hung that on the wall for my contrasting color. I wish you could see it. It looks amazing and works great.
Actually, they do tell you somewhere to mount it on a dark background. I wrote them and asked them about taking it apart to paint one of the rotating flower wheels a different color to add contrast. They said it could be done, sent me a video link on how to do it.
Best of I had seen before
Genius. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hi, does the shipment only provided United States and Canada? I'm from Asia and I interested with this Spring Flower Kinetic Sculpture
So cool
We bought a sculpture years ago and the kids released the winding and the spring recoiled and broke. Do you sell replacement parts?
Yes. Contact us at info@carvedlakeart.com
Do you have plan or mechanism drwng???
The main screw hole for attaching to a stud is blocked by the mechanism. How do you recommend people access it?
From Carved Lake Art can I purchase the plans or the finished sculpture only??
How to make this?
