Mold or Kahm Yeast on this Ferment? Identifying mold and yeast on fermented food

  • The most common concern I get from new fermenters is "is this mold?" and "should I throw my ferment away?". Surprisingly, mold is not too common and most of the time what people have is actually a harmless yeast called kahm.

    I'm a fermentor and though I have accepted kahm yeast, I'm about to experiment with adding an anti-fungal at the top of the fermentation container.

      That’s intriguing. Would love to hear how your experiments turn out. I find using more breathable lids help avoid kahm yeast. I like cloth or paper over silicone.

      Kham yeast its good,,ok to eat
