Love Gideon's reaction. Can only imagine how Luke looks to a normal imperial. He blew up a Death Star with a one in a million shot, spent the next two years being priority #1 to Lord Vader himself, managed to escape Vader and then went by himself into a confrontation with Vader and the Emperor both and walked away the only one alive. Gideon knew he was screwed.

The reminisce of the Empire are even more afraid of Luke than they are of Vader. For all they know Luke killed Vader, killed the emperor, and blew up the second Death Star and waked away like a boss! I think that's Why Gideon craps his pants, he knows exactly who it is.

    It's not A Jedi. It's THE Jedi.
The most satisfying part of this episode was watching Gideon's smug, slimy confidence utterly collapse when Luke appeared. Even after he was captured, he always gave a sense of being exactly where he wanted to be and was in complete control of his situation. But then Luke arrived, and Gideon KNEW just what he was dealing with and was TERRIFIED.

I love how Artoo - who represents Luke’s innocence and kindness - is the one who convinces Grogu to go. If the Jedi of old approached their younglings like cold and distant masters, Luke approaches his like a friend. He is treating Grogu the way Qui-Gon Jinn once treated Anakin, the way the Jedi Order as a whole should’ve treated him. In a way, he’s saving his father once more.

The Dark troopers first appeared in Star Wars: Dark Forces from 1995. Phase Zero dark troopers were the result of the Galactic Empire's Dark Trooper Phase Zero Project and the predecessors of Imperial Dark troopers. Unlike the latter they were not fully droids, but actually aged clone troopers, transformed into cyborgs covered in Grey heavy armour. These troopers could be seen in Star Wars Battlefront 2 the design is iconic to the game. The Phase I dark trooper was the first model in the dark trooper design program a much more light armoured droid often depicted with a shield and a long blade. The Phase II Dark Trooper was a type of experimental stormtrooper created by the Galactic Empire as part of the dark trooper program. The program's failure had helped to turn the Joint Chiefs away from using battle droids in the Imperial Military. The Phase III dark trooper was the last and most powerful dark trooper exoskeleton/droid. It dwarfed even the Phase II dark trooper, and was intended to be the armor of the next generation of stormtroopers. It was sometimes even classified as a bipedal tank. in the the Mandalorian we see The third-generation design Dark Trooper unlike the EU versions this one was a type of experimental third-generation battle droid manufactured rather than a combat suit piloted by humanoids. The design in the Mandalorian is a mix of the Phase ll and the Phase lll to create a really cool design.

It gets scarier and much sadder when you realize that the original prototypes for Death Troopers were utilizing the brains/minds of veteran Clone Troopers and soldiers that served the Empire.
In Legends, the last we know of Commander Cody is that he had some part possibly in helping contribute to the Death Trooper project.
Canon, we still don't know of Cody's fate after the rise of the Empire. Hopefully we finally will find out soon.

    • @Ambaryerno

Death Troopers and Dark Troopers are two entirely different things.
Dark Troopers are basically Battle Droids on steroids. They originated in the 1995 first-person shooter, Dark Forces. This was their first appearance in any media in 25 years.

Grogu is 50 years old and was trained in the Jedi temple while Anakin and Obi Wan were there. Since R2 was with Anakin in that time Grogu and R2 know each other and R2 is maybe recognising Grogu from the past. :)

They say timing is everything, and that proves it with this episode. After a year of bad news; Covid, lockdowns, and all kinds of depressing news, this episode came just when people needed it.
When I first saw that cloaked figure, I knew right away it was Luke. And this was the Luke Skywalker we always wanted to see, not the one from the newer movies.
I’ve seen a lot of reaction videos to this episode and it’s always one of suspense, surprise and tears of joy (seeing Luke) but also of sadness (Grogu and Din are separated.) Don’t be ashamed of crying, I cried and did it again seeing your reactions. It was a wonderful episode that made everyone forget about 2020 even if just for a few minutes. I love Luke’s scene here and his scene on Crait in The Last Jedi in equal measure. Here he’s channeling his father, saving the day by dispatching “clankers” with style and flourish. In the Last Jedi he’s channeling both Obi-Wan and Yoda, specifically their first lessons to him (“Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them” and “Wars not make one great”) and use The Force to humiliate an army that’s halfway across the Galaxy from him. Us real old-timer Star Wars fans cried over this episode... not just because of the Mando-Grogu story. We waited for our hero. We waited 44 years... we wait 44 years to see this. Not "naive famboy Luke". Not "barely trained headstrong apprentice Luke"... And, fast forwarding to the bitter disappointment more recently; NOT "grumpy old blue-milk drinking Luke".... We waited 44 years to see JEDI MASTER LUKE SKYWALKER. The badass that calmly and serenely walk through a company of Dark Troopers.... never breaking a sweat. Who calmly came for Grogu, the last Jedi Apprentice from the Old Temple.
THAT is why we cried... we waited most of our LIVES to see "nobody farmboy Luke" become what we saw here. Am I being a little over-dramatic? Yeah, maybe a little.. but, that's why we cried. Grogu is going to be OK with Master Luke.

It took me a few days to normalize my emotions after this episode. I was a giant mess of "wow they brought Luke back and he was amazing" and "Grogu and Din aren't together and I'm super upset and kind of hate Luke right now". I really hope that Mando and Grogu reunite in Season 3 at some point. I need the end of the last season to be them flying off to some adventure or settling down in a quiet village together after they've stopped Thrawn and Grogu is all trained up as a Jedi.

He believes that the empire knows best so much that he is willing to not only IGNORE the tragic loss of a widely known planet, but actually encourage that it was a good thing, even though anyone logically would look at the sitaution the way the viewers do (i.e. the Empire only care aboit growing their power and maintaining it in order to follow through on Palpatines orders, since he kills high officers without a second thought almost weekly, and usually end up doing/justifying something horrible. First, I love your opening explanation of muting and filtering. Nice text crawl too.
6:28 "No! how do they know how to open doors?"
Um, you do realize that most droids understand the concept of doors, and a combat droid that doesn't understand how to open a door is going to be pretty useless on a spacecraft, in a city, in any kind of structure, right? (I mean, a MOUS droid might not know how to force a door open, but it still knows it needs a path to get from point a to point b that doesn't involve a solid wall.)
You missed the post credit scene... Since it made such an impact with the MCU, Disney has been doing that elsewhere too.

I don’t know if I’m in the minority, but even though I love Grogu, I feel like his story ended at the appropriate time. Any longer and it would have felt like they were dragging it out. Now a new plot can be explored that focuses more on Mandalorian stuff.

It's nearly impossible to hope, but it would be so cool if this Luke did not end up to be the Last Jedi Luke. That this is an alternate timeline where Kylo doesn't kill Grogu and the others. I'd love an animated Young Jedi Academy in Clone Wars style where Luke is figuring things out, rebuilding the Jedi and stepping away from the mistakes they had made in the prequel era. One where Ahsoka and Rex can come in and help and support him. One where we learn what it truly means to be a Jedi. Jedi like Qui Gon Jinn.
