perhaps the best top 10 video i've seen. i love the way you actually show the components while talking about each game and not just hold up the box. I even saw at least one game I had never heard of.
Thank you Steve!! Yeah I always found holding the box for a top 10 to be less then ideal as it does not show the game being played. Glad you liked it! Can I ask what game did you not know?
@@OneStopCoopShop that's why you know what you're talking about...you really go deep on these games!! Dungeon Alliance is on my top 3 along with mage knight and Lord of the Rings LCG
Thanks for the video! I immediately picked up a copy of Dungeon Alliance in retail when I saw this video. It's the perfect Mage Knight replacement game for me.
Gotta say I really enjoy your style and attitude. The "you might not like this if" segment is a very cool balance to your contagious enthusiasm. Well done :)
I got Gears of War on eBay recently (yes, it was expensive). Someone on BGG created the expansions cards as well, and I got those printed out. This game is BRUTAL yet fun. It feels like the videogame. I wish they made more for this game. It's amazing.
Great list, lots of games to play not much time to do it! My top 5 dungeon crawlers are: Descent 2ed Warhammer Quest ACG Imperial Assault Sword & Sorcery Gloomhaven
Great list Colin. So many wonderful dungeon crawlers. I knew you liked Dungeon Alliance but I didn’t realize just how much! Here’s my top 5 5: Unknown. This game is tragically underrated. Every time I play it I have a blast. 4: Descent 2nd Edition (with app). This is my most played crawler. So much variety. I also love the custom dice. 3: Shadows of Brimstone. The ultimate dice chucker and my favorite leveling system in a board game. Plus a unique theme for a crawler. 2: Sword and Sorcery. Best ai in my opinion. Also love the cool down system for the hero’s abilities. 1: Imperial Assault (with app). a. It’s Star Wars. b. It’s a dungeon crawler. c. It’s Star Wars d. The app integration is great. e. It’s Star Wars. f. Cool unique dice and tons of content (physical content. Not much app content yet, though I’m sure that will change) g. Did I mention it’s Star Wars? Thanks again for another great list. Looking forward to the adventure games one!
Whoa what an awesome list! Good to see someone else know Unknown! Sounds like I need to get descent and Imperial Assault to the table soon. Thanks so much for watching!!
Hello Colin ! Can't get tired enough of watching your videos. They are so informative, thanks for doing this ! Knowing that you like Dungeon Alliance a lot, I wonder if you enter their 2nd Kickstaster that is up now ! They added Playmats and Adventure Packs that look awesome. Maybe we will see a short playthrough here at One Stop Co-op Shop with one of the Adventure Packs ! :-) Take Care !
Wow thank you for such a nice compliment, I appreciate it! For DA I have backed it with full confidence of how amazing it will be. I mean c'mon it is Andrew Parks! Second I did not get anything pre-released to me so I won't be showing off anything additional until it comes to the backers. BUT I fully intend to do another playthrough once the adventure packs are out!
Great list! A few on there that I haven't tried, going to have to check them out. As always, appreciate the guidance on concepts that work/don't work for you, I find it very useful when making gaming choices! Thought I would throw out my top 5: 5 - Descent (2nd edition) - the old stalwart 4 - Shadows of Brimstone - heavy but enjoy the weird west theme 3 - Pathfinder Adventure Card Game - Mummy's Mask in particular 2 - Sword & Sorcery - don't own a copy yet, but so good 1 - Gloomhaven - can't keep it off the table
AWESOME list thanks for sharing!! I hope you get a copy of S&S you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Just got to get over the weird rules ha! :) Thanks for watching!
My top 5 1 Gloomhaven -i totally consider it to be a DC 2 Stuffed Fables - limited? sure, but My wife loves it and its a heartwarming fun game like Mice & Mystics 3 Imperial Assault with App (so much SW goodness!) 4 One DeckDungeon- so much game in so small a box! 5 DungeonQuest- old school, brutal, and ruthless. but thematic and much beloved in my household. Great List Collin, my wallet does not thank you,but my brain and gaming heart does!
Thanks for this list. I guess I have to continue my journey through Sword&Sorcery soon and dust off my Legends of Drizzt^^ My Top 5 Dungeon Crawlers are 1. Gloomhaven 2. Decent 2 3. Zombicide Black Plaque 4. Mansions of Madness 2. Edition 5. Mice&Mystics
Ha! First! For the sake of the Dungeon Alliance giveaway, here is my top 5 dungeon crawlers: 5. One Deck Dungeon 4. Mistfall (maybe it’s more of an adventure card game? Although it’s really mainly combat oriented) 3. Space Hulk: Death Angel 2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game (RIP) 1. Gloomhaven
Helllo Coopshop I totally agree with your top two. Just bought sword and sorcery myself. Loved playing it with my two sons but it was a lot to remember correctly. Started a new campaign with my gaming group. Dungeon alliance looks like a very very fun game. Watched your playthrough and decided to try to get my hands on a copy. It does come out in retail soon but winning a game with a painted set would be awesome. Other games I like (for very diffenrent reasons): Arcadia quest (that's a dungeon isn't it?) Tomb (simple with outrageous combos if you can pull them off) Hero Quest (nostalgic reasons)
Sword & Sorcery is amazing. The theme may be a bit generic, but the mechanics elevate it to greatness. S&S, Mage Knight, and Eldritch Horror are my favorite solo games.
Good list. My top 5: 1.Gloomhaven 2: Myth (now if they straighten out all the Myth drama, it might move back to my #1), 3: Sword & Sorcery, 4: Fireteam Zero, 5: Shadows of Brimstone
Thank you for the top 10 video :) I have only played Gloomhaven and Descent...so thy kinda win my top two by default. Now to get taxes done so I can add to my repertoire ;)
I had only "watched" this video by listening to the audio play while I was driving, I'd never seen the video part. Now that I have, I have to say, I love your shirt :-)
Great list! I didn’t even know about some of these games. Thanks for introducing me to some new games to look into. I will continue to cheer on the support for MYTH. The journeyman Kickstarter update for myth says the creators promised at least the printed materials by this summer. I’m looking forward too then. Great job as always!
Thanks for sharing the pros and cons. That helps a lot! 5 - Galaxy Defenders (nice minis, nice AI, I like the theme/story line a lot) 4 - Mice & Mystics (great minis and story) 3 - One Deck Dungeon (great dice mitigation and games don't take a lot of time) 2 - Level 7 Omega Protocol (nice minis, nice board, great AI) 1 - Thunderstone Quest (Thunderstone is one of my fav games, but mo' betta')
I am enjoying TQ solo, but I must admit I am bias. I like Thunderstone a lot and it may be my favorite solo game. There aren't official solo rules out yet for TQ, but when they do come out I think they will be similar to those of the basic game (i.e. the rules I'm playing by, which is high score.) But, who knows, maybe it won't be like that and you will either win or lose, which would be even better. We'll see. I like the game mechanic of TQ and find it enjoyable to add specific cards you want to add of those available (which change from game to game), go into the dungeon, come out and buff up, head back in again. Also, I really like the card art. Always have. I think I have every Thunderstone expansion. Also, I like the game play time. Not too long, not too short. Which means it's (you got it) just right! :-)
Totally makes sense!! I have Thunderstone Advance and really enjoy it. I just couldn't get myself to back a game that doesn't have official solo when there are so many others that do. But so glad you enjoy it!!! :)
My top 5: 1) Mage knight 2) Descent 2nd ed. 3) Gears of war 4) Gloomhaven 5) Memento Mori and Middara(waiting for kickstarter delivery on the above 2) All amazing games
Nice list mine: 5. Descent w/app 4. Gears of War 3. One Deck Dungeon (first video I watched on your channel!) 2. Mice and Mystics 1. Mice and Mystics: Downwood Tales (technically an expansion, but it adds so much content that I consider it its own game). I really want to get Imperial Assault since I found out there's an app for it too.
I really like playing it solo, the combat mechanics are simple enough that I can run all the characters without constantly feeling like I'm forgetting an ability or a bonus (a problem I often have when running co-op dungeon crawlers solo) but there's still enough variety in the characters/abilities that I don't feel like I'm just doing the same thing over and over.
Super cool list! Thanks a lot, Colin! :) Here's my top 5 solo dungeon crawlers: 5. Space Hulk: Death Angel (RIP) 4. Legend of Drizzt (it's the one I own) 3. Massive Darkness 2. A4 Quest 1. Mistfall: Heart of the Mists I suspect One Deck Dungeon and Apocalypse Chaos will make the list, but I only got them yesterday ;)
One Stop Co-op Shop it’s a print and play solo dungeon crawl. Simple, fast and with some lightweight decision making. It was just kickstarted as a printed version but it will remain free to download and print the current version. It’s a couple of pages you print and you dont even need scissors ;)
Current Top 5: 5. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 4. Temple of Elemental Evil (D&D Adventure system) 3. Gloom of Kilforth / Sword & Sorcery (need to play more) 2. Descent 2nd EDition 1. Gloomhaven It might change when I get my hands on Middara, One Deck Dungeon and a ton of kickstarters that I backed :P
Have you heard about Space Cadets Away Missions? Although the theme is silly sci fi movies from the 60s, it has all the dungeon crawler characteristics. The overkill mechanics is quite unique and the 7 or so alien types with a different behavior each makes a good puzzle. Many items to loot and use, huge number of enemies to get rid of, 20 scenario in the box. Works well solo.
I have played this, just not solo as it was not my copy! It was fun and I think I would really enjoy it solo just hadn't tried it that way. Good thinking though, it is one that flies under the radar a bit I think!
My Top 5 Dungeon Crawlers (at the moment), in no particular order 1 Gloomhaven 2 Space Cadets: Away Missions 3 One Deck Dungeon 4 Pathfinder ACG: Mummy's Mask 5 Zombicide: Black Plague/Green Horde This year will hopefully have new entries to displace my current favorites ;)
No Games Workshop games? They make some of the best solo Dungeon Dives! Warhammer Quest, Advanced HeroQuest, DungeonQuest, WHQ: Silver Tower! All are fantastic!
Awesome list, Colin! We don't play many dungeon crawlers (even though I love them) but we have been playing a lot of Gloomhaven. Gears of War is one of my most wanted games. So hard to get hold of though but I loved the video game series. One day I'll get my chance!
Top solo for me is Descent 2nd ed with Road to Legend App. Gloomhaven is great but I prefer it co-op, and Drizzt DnD is a fun 3rd place for less complexity.
Nice list! Mine would look something like this: 1. Gloomhaven 2. One Deck Dungeon 3. Shadows of Brimstone 4. Sword & Sorcery 5. Assault on Doomrock (maybe not a real dungeon crawler, but the combat is so unique and interesting I have to include it)
Top 5 dungeon crawler 1.- mage knight core game (my fav game and the one that make me enter board game hobby) 2.- mage knight lost legion (yes it took 2 numbers in my heart) 3.- masmorra dungeons of arcadia (that's why I want to try dungeon alliance looks like the hardcore version) 4.- gears of war board game (super fan of videogames but the board game captures the essence perfectly, dunno was out of print now I feel better bought it from start) 5.- legendary alien and predator ( the expansion and the harder modes + alien soldiers make it so fun to bad they don't think a lot the coordinate mechanics for solo
There is a copy of gears of war the board game brand new for 50dollars where I stay. How much replayability does the game have. It looks awesome and I enjoyed the video game
It's great to see some love for Secrets of the Lost Tomb. It's not perfect, but it's a ton of fun. I'll go with Gloomhaven, Fireteam Zero, Mistfall, Lost Tomb and Descent, with an honorable mention to Arcane Quest 3 on the tablet.
If I was making my list, I think that I'd have to include Gloomhaven because I play it solo: 1) Gloomhaven 2) Sword & Sorcery 3) Imperial Assault w/app 4) Descent w/app (I was going to fold this into IA, but they are different enough that they should be two separate entries) 5) Space Cadets: Away Missions I might also include Gloom of Kilforth, Too Many Bones, and Mansions of Madness, but I suspect you would consider those Adventure games and not Dungeon Crawlers.
Great list. Can't wait to try some of these out. I do think Sword and Sorcery is sort of in the same league as Gloomhaven when it comes to cooperative games that can also be played solo, but I do appreciate a list without Gloomhaven on it. By this point everyone has an opinion on Gloomhaven already and you've probably either played it and loved it. Played it and found it's not for you. Or just decided you're not going to try it.
I get you on gloomhaven! I hebe a group of 4 and we have played 30 plus times now and I love it. Just much prefer coop vs solo on that one. Thanks for watching!
Hey Collin, that's a tough list since many games I love, like Arcadia Quest, havent been played solo or not played at all (like Sword and Sorcery T.T ). So here's my list : 1 - Gloomhaven (been playing the campaign solo since my group mostly like to play different games); 2 - Gears of war (this game is so much fun and really underrated in my opinion); 3 - Descent 2nd ed. (with the app. and the earlier solo/coop variant which were really cool too); 4 - D&D Wrath of Ashar. (got many of them but not tomb of annihilation, and now you convinced me to get it!); 5 - Massive Darkness (mostly played coop but loved playing it solo too) Bonus list lol : 6 - Mech Vs Minions 7 - Warhammer Adventure Card Game 8 - Zombicide Black Plague 9 - Masmorra 10 - One Deck Dungeon Other games like Runebound or Mage knight are mostly adventure games I believe which I'll put them your next top 10 hehe
Nice list thanks for sharing!! I debated putting Mechs on here, but decided I liked it way more co-op so I never play it solo. WaCG is another great one!! And yes your two for Adventure, you may see those in the next list. . . . :) :) :)
Stil have to play my copy of S&S and Max Apocalypse. Would also like to call out Aeon’s End but that more of a deckbuilder I guess. For now top 5: 5 - Decent 4 - Mistfall 3 - One Deck Dungeon 2 - Aventuria 1 - Dragonfire Yes, I like cards over dice at the moment :-)
Would love to see you do a solo or co-op playthrough of Descent 2nd edition with either Redjak's variant or the app. Whilst I am currently playing and loving Gloomhaven, I personally find Descent 2e isn't that far behind it in greatness for different reasons-mainly as a better choice for anyone who hopes to get other people-especially family, kids or other non-gamers/newbies to get into Dungeon crawling :)
Did not expect dungeon alliance to be number 1. Defo thought it would be sword and sorcery. Need to check this dungeon alliance out. My top 5 would be: 5. Descent 4. Zombiecide: Black Plague 3. Imperial Assault 2. Mage Knight 1. Sword and Sorcery
Thanks for the great video. I especially appreciate that you also pointed out some possible downsides, even though these are some of your favorite games. These kind of retrospectives are so much more valuable than the noncritical hyping of new releases and Kickstarter campaigns that are coming to dominate boardgame videos. I was wondering if you have played Assault on Doomrock? This game has a very fun and challenging tactical combat system. Fights are interspersed with quick playing overland segues where you make some important strategic choices. I love the heck out of this game, and it is my favorite solo experience.
Thanks for watching!! Yes I have played that one and it narrowly missed my list. A great game with a nice varation on your normal dungeon crawler. I am excited for their new one as well, the steampunk theme is fun!
My top 5 are these: 1. Gloomhaven 2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 3. Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game 4. Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft 5. Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia
My top 5:1. Gloomhaven 2. Mage Knight Board Game 3. 7th Continent 4. The Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport 5. Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (Mummy's Mask best but all are great)
Top 5 Mage Knight (By your definiiton of "one of the main factors is combat") Shadows of Brimstones Mice and Mystics D&D Dungeon (1st Edition was the best, Electronic version was also good) One Deck Dungeon
Hmm. Not sure that I have played enough dungeon crawlers to make a list. 1: V Commandos 2: Massive Darkness 3: Dungeon Twister (not sure it counts :) ) I've only just recently come to appreciate the dungeon crawling genre so it'll be awhile before I can add more to a list (still a lot of game to explore in the three)
HAHAHA Dungeon Twister nice!! I see you have V-Commandos, what a great game! I didn't include it because I felt it wasn't dungeon crawl-ey enough but still a great game. Thanks for sharing!
My top 5 solo dungeon crawlers: 1) Gloomhaven (I play it solo, though strictly it is not a solo game) 2) Mansions of Madness 3) Mage Knight 4) Gears of War 5) One Deck Dungeon
Here is my list: 1. Folklore the Affliction 2. Fireteam Zero 3. Sword and Sorcery/Galaxy Defenders 4. Perdition's Mouth 5. Shadows of Brimstone Notable Others: Gloomhaven, Imperial Assault, Myth, Endure the Stars
It's the story and the streamlined battles when it comes to the misc fights. I like how for the road encounters, it's quick and easy to resolve. Then when you reach the main objective, the game becomes tactical. So it's like 2 games in one.
Great video! I think my top 5 would be: 5. The Dungeon of D 4. One Deck Dungeon 3. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 2. HeroQuest (mostly for nostalgia) 1. Gloomhaven (even though I've hardly scratched the surface of what it has to offer)
Brent Schleicher warhammer quest is a genius game. Gotnit a few months ago. Totally gutted they never supported the game with expansions and looks like games workshop aren't interested in making any either after taking the licence from FFG. Pure gutted man!
Check these fan-made options out. There's quite a bit there to keep you going. boardgamegeek.com/thread/1558032/fan-unoffical-content-summary-quests-campaigns-her
Hmm you can check also warhammer quest: silver tower. It has many of s&s advantages but better miniatures and more replayability due to random dungeon 😄
@@OneStopCoopShop unfortunately yes , they are practically the same as for warhammer age of sigmar. It took me about 3 evenings to do it.. but game is fun so IMHO it's worth it.
Great list. But Galaxy Defenders is missing and Lost tomb is by far the best crawling experience I had so far. So many great situations are created every Single game. It is Arkham Horror - the dungeon crawler. I cannot wait to get Lost Station to the table. :)
One Stop Co-op Shop If you love the AI in Sword & Sorcery you will be blown away how much deeper is Galaxy Defenders according to its tactical choices and how the (same) AI plays out thanks to the hex system.
I am Happy to see Dead Men Tell no Tales on ur list. Love this game. Shadow of Brimstone is really Good too. Secrets of the lost Tomb is a Great game but I prefer play it as a 2 Player game. With more Player u have less actions and it get boring to wait so long only for 2 actions.
Totally agree on SotLT it is a great game, but if you are playing with a ton of people it can take a bit until it is your turn! Brimestone I just could not get into. Thanks for watching!
1. Descent 2nd Edition, 2. ... Oh my goodness, I just realized I've hardly played any actual dungeon crawlers. I've just researched a bunch and haven't played them. How crazy is this? I guess my only other one I've even played was a game that I've been designing, called "Mechan Invasion" (working title) If I can put them on it, I'll put Pathfinder RPG / DND3.5 on the list. Other than that, I can just put guesses on the list. So, I guess, I'll just put the top 5 Dungeon Crawlers that I'd like to play, but haven't. In no particular order ?) Mice and Mystics ?) Gloomhaven ?) Arcadia Quest ?) Imperial Assault ?) Unknown ?) The DND boardgames, which I've haven't gotten around to playing yet.
Update: After watching the video and getting the definition, I would also add PAthfinder Adventure Card Game Skulls and Shackles and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Rise of the Runelords, in spots 1 and 2 respectively.
I unfortunately don't have many game but I love solo and dungeon exploration. For that I will make a listof my current Gamez and my wanted games. Current:Dungeon roll(it was my first game so it has a special place in my heart)One deck dungeon WantedShadow of malice(more of an adventure)Dungeon allianceGears of war I keep my list of wants low and try to play all games about 100 times and keep ones I want to keep and get rid of ones idont
WHOA 100 times nice!! You and I are for sure doing things differently! :) I think my most played game sits at about 45 plays!!! Shadows of Malice I really want to try as well!! Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed your top 10 list. Many of the games I hadn't heard of. Would you mind telling us what sort of Dungeon Crawlers you have played that didn't make your list for comparison sake? I think it would say a lot about these games if you have played games like Descent, Massive Darkness, Zombicide, Imperial Assault, etc and they didn't make your top 10 list. Level 7: Escape I heard wasn't very good but you mentioned that the rule book is poor. Perhaps that's why. Your description of it though makes it sound very good. I think I have seen it on sale and now I would have to seriously consider it.
Now that is a GREAT point! Which ones did not make the list! Well I have played Zombicide, and Black Plague, Massive Darkness, no Imperial Assault though or Descent. Folklore I have played, Shadows of Brimestone I have played, Arkham Horror. . . These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head! Hope that helps!
My top 5: 5: Secrets of the Lost Tomb 4: Dead Men Tell No Tales 3: Descent 2nd edition 2: Gloomhaven 1: Star Wars: Imperial Assault Those are the ones I find most appealing!
I really want Dungeon Alliance now. But I received Thunderstone Quest today. And Maximum Apocalypse last week. And I have late pledged HexploreIt ant it may arrive soon..... Ahhhhhhhhhh too many good games !!!!! I'll play vicariously through your series :)
Hmm top 5: 5 myth 4 d&d adventure games (castle ravenloft, legend drizzt and wrath of arshadalon are the only ones I’ve played) 3 shadows of brimstone 2 descent 1 sword and sorcery
Perhaps, for those looking for something like Gears Of War, Fireteam Zero has some mechanical similarity? Although I've not yet played Fireteam Zero (it's on my wishlist) I've gotten the distinct impression, from playthrough vids, that it's card play & hand management is very similar to that in Gears Of War. Although the theme and some other mechanics are different between the two, that core card play looked extremely familiar to my experience with GoW's. The card mechanics in GoW are what really make it shine due to the varied & hard strategic decisions you must make every turn with them.
Yes 100% agree Gears of War and Fireteam are very similar with one huge difference. Gears of War you only get to draw 1 card each round, not your entire hand so it makes it more challenging. but the cardplay is still there in both games!
Hey Colin, checked both of your top 10 lists..no mention of folklore so was wondering whether you feel its a different category or just didn't make the top 10?
First, thanks so much for watching!! Second, for me personally I couldn't get into that one as much. I think it had to do with the percentile dice, and rolling for both attack and defense. It just took me out of the immersion. BUT the game is good, just not in my top 10! Thanks for asking!
One Stop Co-op Shop thanks for the reply..interestingly enough it was the first playthrough i watched on your channel! Keep them coming. Btw do you plan to do gloomhaven?
Gloomhaven I don't play solo, I LOVE the game (number 2 on my most recent Top 14 Co-op's) but the fact I have to control multiple hands of cards and I can play co-op vs. solo. . . Yeah it was not on my solo list. STILL it is a GREAT game and I love it a lot, just not a solo for me! :)
I love the detail given to each game. I really think the "this game is not for you if..." segment for each game is useful. Thanks!
Awesome glad you find it useful, and appreciate you watching!
Definitely, that was one of the most helpful top ten lists on youtube for me.
perhaps the best top 10 video i've seen. i love the way you actually show the components while talking about each game and not just hold up the box. I even saw at least one game I had never heard of.
Thank you Steve!! Yeah I always found holding the box for a top 10 to be less then ideal as it does not show the game being played. Glad you liked it! Can I ask what game did you not know?
Thanks for including Dungeon Alliance as your #1 Dungeon Crawler, Colin! I hope you continue to enjoy the game!
The game deserves it!! Can't tell you how much fun it is, so thank you for designing a real fun gem!!
Dungeon Alliance 4ever!!
@@sauronguitar :D
Just an fyi in starting an adventure pack playthrough next week!! Doing the pack number 4!!
AWESOME!! Have fun and good luck out there!!
Gotta say I really enjoy your style and attitude. The "you might not like this if" segment is a very cool balance to your contagious enthusiasm. Well done :)
Sweet, I don't think there is a perfect game, so I try to give as balanced an opinion as I can! Thanks for watching!
So refreshing to watch an honest review. Many of those games are off the radar and deserve some love.
Thanks so much for watching and the nice comment!
Thank you for putting together this list! So many good looking games that I hadn't heard of yet.
Thank you for watching!!
I got Gears of War on eBay recently (yes, it was expensive). Someone on BGG created the expansions cards as well, and I got those printed out. This game is BRUTAL yet fun. It feels like the videogame. I wish they made more for this game. It's amazing.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching and commenting!
What an amazing review of games! You’re truly gifted! Keep them coming!
Oh thanks so much! More to come but we have plenty of Top lists you can explore as well!
Great list, lots of games to play not much time to do it!
My top 5 dungeon crawlers are:
Descent 2ed
Warhammer Quest ACG
Imperial Assault
Sword & Sorcery
Gloomhaven
Nice list!!! I need to get Descent to the table soon! And imperial assault!
Very enjoyable video as always!
My current top 5:
5. Castle Ravenloft
4. Wrath of Ashardalon
3. The Legend of Drizzt
2. Imperial Assault
1. Descent
Thank you for sharing!! Now I must get Imperial Assault and Descent to the table on of these days. . .
Great presentation. Co-op dungeon crawls are my favorite right now. You showed me some that I want to get.
So glad it was helpful!! Thanks for watching!
Great list Colin. So many wonderful dungeon crawlers. I knew you liked Dungeon Alliance but I didn’t realize just how much!
Here’s my top 5
5: Unknown.
Great to see Secrets of the Lost Tomb on the list. The Dungeon Dive approves!
HECK YES!! I love that game! Wish I pulled it out more. . .
Awesome thanks for sharing!!!
The Dungeon Dive Indeed. The best and maybe most underrated dungeon crawler out there.
I agree. Seems to be a real love it or hate it kind of game. I'm glad I love it!
Great list! A few on there that I haven't tried, going to have to check them out. As always, appreciate the guidance on concepts that work/don't work for you, I find it very useful when making gaming choices!
Thought I would throw out my top 5:
5 - Descent (2nd edition) - the old stalwart
4 - Shadows of Brimstone - heavy but enjoy the weird west theme
3 - Pathfinder Adventure Card Game - Mummy's Mask in particular
2 - Sword & Sorcery - don't own a copy yet, but so good
1 - Gloomhaven - can't keep it off the table
AWESOME list thanks for sharing!! I hope you get a copy of S&S you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Just got to get over the weird rules ha! :) Thanks for watching!
My top 5
1 Gloomhaven -i totally consider it to be a DC
2 Stuffed Fables - limited? sure, but My wife loves it and its a heartwarming fun game like Mice & Mystics
3 Imperial Assault with App (so much SW goodness!)
4 One DeckDungeon- so much game in so small a box!

1. Gloomhaven
2. Decent 2
3. Zombicide Black Plaque
4. Mansions of Madness 2. Edition
5. Mice&Mystics
Nice list, thanks for sharing!! I just could not get into Mansions of Madness. . . . Glad you enjoyed it!
Love Sword & Sorcery. It’s a wonderful evolution from the also excellent Galaxy Defenders.
Totally agree, still haven't played Galaxy Defenders, but it is on my short list!
I always love your video's Colin. Another great one here!
Thank you, Franz!!
Very informative and enjoyable; went out and purchased one deck dungeon as a result.
Ha! First! For the sake of the Dungeon Alliance giveaway, here is my top 5 dungeon crawlers:
5. One Deck Dungeon
4. Mistfall (maybe it’s more of an adventure card game? Although it’s really mainly combat oriented)
3. Space Hulk: Death Angel
2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game (RIP)
1. Gloomhaven
NICE!! Thanks for sharing, and I may or may not have Mistfall on my adventure list, but it might fit better here . . . :) Regardless great list!
Helllo Coopshop
I totally agree with your top two.
Other games I like (for very diffenrent reasons):
Arcadia quest (that's a dungeon isn't it?)
Tomb (simple with outrageous combos if you can pull them off)
Hero Quest (nostalgic reasons)
Yeas S&S is AWESOME but so much to remember!! I like your list, I have never played Tomb!!
Sword & Sorcery is amazing. The theme may be a bit generic, but the mechanics elevate it to greatness. S&S, Mage Knight, and Eldritch Horror are my favorite solo games.
Great choices and I totally agree!!
Good list. My top 5: 1.Gloomhaven 2: Myth (now if they straighten out all the Myth drama, it might move back to my #1), 3: Sword & Sorcery, 4: Fireteam Zero, 5: Shadows of Brimstone
NICE!! I was amazed to see Gloomhaven #1, the lack of dice I thought would push it back a bit. Regardless I like what I see. Ever play Gears of War?
Thank you for the top 10 video :)
I have only played Gloomhaven and Descent...so thy kinda win my top two by default. Now to get taxes done so I can add to my repertoire ;)
Whoot whoot! I love getting taxes done considering that is my day job, so good luck and I hope your refund is huge and can be used for Board Games! :)
I had only "watched" this video by listening to the audio play while I was driving, I'd never seen the video part. Now that I have, I have to say, I love your shirt :-)
haha thanks!!
My top 5
1. Gloomhaven
2. One Deck Dungeon
3. Mice & Mystics
4. Sword & Sorcery
5. Mage Knight
GREAT list I played all of them, good choices!!
Thanks for your videos. I've found them really helpful on want games to purchase.
Sorry to the wallet, but your all welcome for the ideas!
I'm so happy you put Level 7 Escape in here. It needs more love. It's a great game.
I know! Not enough love for that one!
Great list! I didn’t even know about some of these games. Thanks for introducing me to some new games to look into. I will continue to cheer on the support for MYTH. The journeyman Kickstarter update for myth says the creators promised at least the printed materials by this summer. I’m looking forward too then.
Great job as always!
Yay Myth!! I can't wait to actually learn t hat one!! :)
Thanks for sharing the pros and cons. That helps a lot!
5 - Galaxy Defenders (nice minis, nice AI, I like the theme/story line a lot)
4 - Mice & Mystics (great minis and story)
3 - One Deck Dungeon (great dice mitigation and games don't take a lot of time)
2 - Level 7 Omega Protocol (nice minis, nice board, great AI)
1 - Thunderstone Quest (Thunderstone is one of my fav games, but mo' betta')
Thanks for sharing!! Yeah Galaxy Defenders I need to get to the table as well. Mice and Mystics too! Do you find Thunderstone Quest to be good solo?
My top 5:
1) Mage knight
2) Descent 2nd ed.
3) Gears of war
4) Gloomhaven
5) Memento Mori and Middara(waiting for kickstarter delivery on the above 2)
All amazing games
Nice! I have backed Middara, but never heard of Memento, I will have to check it out!
Only on the second game of your top 10 and already love these choices.
Whoot!!
Nice list mine:
5. Descent w/app
4. Gears of War
3. One Deck Dungeon (first video I watched on your channel!)
2. Mice and Mystics
1. Mice and Mystics: Downwood Tales (technically an expansion, but it adds so much content that I consider it its own game).
I really want to get Imperial Assault since I found out there's an app for it too.
Eric - GREAT list looks like I need to pull out Mice and Mystics. Do you find it engaging enough for solo?
I really like playing it solo, the combat mechanics are simple enough that I can run all the characters without constantly feeling like I'm forgetting an ability or a bonus (a problem I often have when running co-op dungeon crawlers solo) but there's still enough variety in the characters/abilities that I don't feel like I'm just doing the same thing over and over.
Sweet!! I have a painted set, so I really should get this to the table thanks for the input!
Super cool list! Thanks a lot, Colin! :)
Here's my top 5 solo dungeon crawlers:
5. Space Hulk: Death Angel (RIP)
4. Legend of Drizzt (it's the one I own)
3. Massive Darkness
2. A4 Quest
1. Mistfall: Heart of the Mists
I suspect One Deck Dungeon and Apocalypse Chaos will make the list, but I only got them yesterday ;)
Awesome thanks!! a4 Quest never heard of it?! What is that?
One Stop Co-op Shop it’s a print and play solo dungeon crawl. Simple, fast and with some lightweight decision making. It was just kickstarted as a printed version but it will remain free to download and print the current version. It’s a couple of pages you print and you dont even need scissors ;)
So cool thank you for that!! Will be looking this up I think!
Thank You for your list. There are some new ones in there for me that I'll have to check out.
Heck yes! No problem at all thanks for watching!
Current Top 5:
5. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game
4. Temple of Elemental Evil (D&D Adventure system)
3. Gloom of Kilforth / Sword & Sorcery (need to play more)
2. Descent 2nd EDition
1. Gloomhaven
It might change when I get my hands on Middara, One Deck Dungeon and a ton of kickstarters that I backed :P
Nice list!! Middara really excited for that one!! Thanks for sharing!
I love the list. I have two games on the list, Sword and Sorcery and Dead Men Tell No Tales. Now I want Dungeon Alliance. Thanks 😀
Thanks so much for watching Tracy! I hope you can find a copy of DA, it is worth it!
My Top 5 Dungeon Crawlers (at the moment), in no particular order
1 Gloomhaven
2 Space Cadets: Away Missions
3 One Deck Dungeon
4 Pathfinder ACG: Mummy's Mask
5 Zombicide: Black Plague/Green Horde
This year will hopefully have new entries to displace my current favorites ;)
Nice list, thanks for sharing!! Is Green Horde different enough to the other Zombicides?
Thanks for the comparison!!!
Great list! And also great endorsement for the giveaway, since it's #1.
HAHAHA didn't even think of that TBH but yes!
Hey man. Stumbled across your channel a few days ago. Awesome stuff. Please continue the great work !!!!!
Thank you for stumbling! :) Appreciate the kind words man!!!
you' deserve it man. thanks for introducing me to dungeon alliance. i cant wait to snag it next week. andrew revealed release is march 7 :)
No Games Workshop games? They make some of the best solo Dungeon Dives! Warhammer Quest, Advanced HeroQuest, DungeonQuest, WHQ: Silver Tower! All are fantastic!
Apparently I will be looking into these now. . . :) Thanks!
+1 for Sword & Sorcery. I love that game. Leveling up all the unique characters makes the replay factor high.
Totally agree Debbie, thanks for watching!
Nice list, I saw a some new ones and am on the hunt again lol. Thanks
Thanks for watching and good luck with the hunt!!
Awesome list, Colin! We don't play many dungeon crawlers (even though I love them) but we have been playing a lot of Gloomhaven. Gears of War is one of my most wanted games. So hard to get hold of though but I loved the video game series. One day I'll get my chance!
Gloomhave = AWESOME co-op! :) And yes Gears of War, so thematic, tense and fun! I hope you can get a copy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!
Haha me too! $38 sounds like a steal!
I was luuuucckkkyy!!
Dungeon Crawler is always my favorite ! I have tons of them.
Heck yes!! Good choice :)
Top solo for me is Descent 2nd ed with Road to Legend App. Gloomhaven is great but I prefer it co-op, and Drizzt DnD is a fun 3rd place for less complexity.
Totally agree on Gloomhaven!! Thanks for watching!
Nice list! Mine would look something like this:
1. Gloomhaven
2. One Deck Dungeon
3. Shadows of Brimstone
4. Sword & Sorcery
5. Assault on Doomrock (maybe not a real dungeon crawler, but the combat is so unique and interesting I have to include it)
NICE!! Hey your number 5 may be on my next list, but I think it be included as either one! :)
no "Dungeon Roll"? "(
Gears of War ... I agree, so good and so underrated.
It makes me want to play it right now!!
Top 5 dungeon crawler
1.- mage knight core game (my fav game and the one that make me enter board game hobby)
2.- mage knight lost legion (yes it took 2 numbers in my heart)
3.- masmorra dungeons of arcadia (that's why I want to try dungeon alliance looks like the hardcore version)
4.- gears of war board game (super fan of videogames but the board game captures the essence perfectly, dunno was out of print now I feel better bought it from start)
5.- legendary alien and predator ( the expansion and the harder modes + alien soldiers make it so fun to bad they don't think a lot the coordinate mechanics for solo
Thank you for sharing your list, I love it!! Yeah DA is Massmora but better :)
There is a copy of gears of war the board game brand new for 50dollars where I stay. How much replayability does the game have. It looks awesome and I enjoyed the video game
Ohhh this one is awesome! I think it has enough replay to make it worth it! I am not sad I have it :)
My top 5:
5 descent
4 one deck dungeon
3 dnd adventure system (i have 3)
2 sword and sorcery
1 gloomhaven
Awesome list thanks for sharing!!!
Agreed on SotLT!! Mistfall, a great one as well, love the hand management in that game!
Top 5.
1. Warhammer Quest.
2. Secrets of the Lost Tomb
3. Shadows of Brimstone
4. DungeonQuest
5. Dungeoneer
Nice list!! Looks like I need to check out DungeonQuest! :)
We must have similar taste as I own 5 of your top ten already. Although Myth, Descent and Perdition's Mouth are also on my list and in my collection.
Sounds like I need to get those to the table then! I own all of them just haven't gotten them there yet!! :) Thanks for watching!
I have 1, 2 and 10 and they are definitely my favorites. We have similar tastes!
NICE!! Love me some dungeon Crawlers!
Interesting to see Level 7 Escape here. You don’t usually see much love for that one.
If I was making my list, I think that I'd have to include Gloomhaven because I play it solo:
1) Gloomhaven
2) Sword & Sorcery
3) Imperial Assault w/app
4) Descent w/app (I was going to fold this into IA, but they are different enough that they should be two separate entries)
5) Space Cadets: Away Missions
I might also include Gloom of Kilforth, Too Many Bones, and Mansions of Madness, but I suspect you would consider those Adventure games and not Dungeon Crawlers.
NICE list!! Thanks for sharing and yes some of the ones you mentioned would go into my "adventure" category! :)
Thanks for watching!
top 5: Gloomhaven, One Deck Dungeon, D&D Legend of Drizzt, D&D Castle Ravenloft, and Space Hulk Death Angel
Nice list!! Thanks for sharing!!
Hey Collin, that's a tough list since many games I love, like Arcadia Quest, havent been played solo or not played at all (like Sword and Sorcery T.T ). So here's my list :
1 - Gloomhaven (been playing the campaign solo since my group mostly like to play different games);
2 - Gears of war (this game is so much fun and really underrated in my opinion);
3 - Descent 2nd ed. (with the app. and the earlier solo/coop variant which were really cool too);
4 - D&D Wrath of Ashar. (got many of them but not tomb of annihilation, and now you convinced me to get it!);
5 - Massive Darkness (mostly played coop but loved playing it solo too)
Bonus list lol :
6 - Mech Vs Minions
7 - Warhammer Adventure Card Game
8 - Zombicide Black Plague
9 - Masmorra
10 - One Deck Dungeon
Other games like Runebound or Mage knight are mostly adventure games I believe which I'll put them your next top 10 hehe
Nice list thanks for sharing!! I debated putting Mechs on here, but decided I liked it way more co-op so I never play it solo. WaCG is another great one!! And yes your two for Adventure, you may see those in the next list. . . . :) :) :)
Spoilers!!! ;)
Stil have to play my copy of S&S and Max Apocalypse. Would also like to call out Aeon’s End but that more of a deckbuilder I guess.
For now top 5:
5 - Decent
4 - Mistfall
3 - One Deck Dungeon
2 - Aventuria
1 - Dragonfire
Yes, I like cards over dice at the moment :-)
NIIICCEEEE!!! Mistfall, Aventuria and Dragonfire, all good ones!! Still haven't gotten Descent to the table yet! Thanks for sharing!
My top 5 dungeon crawlers
5. Heroscape It might be a stretch.
4. Massive Darkness
3. Zombicide Black Plague
2. Sword and Sorcery
1. Gloomhaven
Nice list!! Thanks for sharing and good to see S&S is your number 2 :) Gloomhaven is also fantastic, just not for me solo only.
1) Myth 2) Zombicide Modern/Fantasy (not really a campaign but has leveling up) 3) Descent 4) Mice and Mystics 5) Warhammer Quest: Adventure Card Game
Nice list thanks for sharing!!!!
Oh I am planning on a 2nd edition Descent playthrough, just too many games and not enough time! So glad you are enjoying it Shane!
gloomhaven, sub terra, sword and sorcery, imperial assault (space dungeon!) and drizzt are my top 5.
NICE list!! Sub Terra I have but still haven't tried. Is it good? What do you like about it?
Very nice guide, tnx!
My pleasure!!
Did not expect dungeon alliance to be number 1. Defo thought it would be sword and sorcery. Need to check this dungeon alliance out. My top 5 would be:
5. Descent
4. Zombiecide: Black Plague
3. Imperial Assault
2. Mage Knight
1. Sword and Sorcery
GREAT list! Yes I am totally smitten by DA, I can't stop playing it!! S&S is wonderful as well!!
Hi Colin, great list. More Aventuria, please!
Simon, thanks! It is coming! Hoping to record the next session tonight!
Yeahhhh
Well done!
thanks for watching!
My top 5 are these:
1. Gloomhaven
2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game
3. Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game
4. Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft
5. Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia
WACG I had that on the list at 11!! I love that game. Space Hulk another good one, sheesh!! Nice!
My Top 5 solo dungeon crawlers:
1. Kingdom Death Monster
2. Shadows of Brimstone
3. Folklore the Affliction
4. Perdition's Mouth
5. Sword & Sorcery
Nice list!!! I need to get perdition to the table so bad!
It's a really tough game to beat. At least for me.
You really need to try massive darkness. My personal favorite. Will hopefully dip my toes into your list, thank you
I actually have a playthrough on the channel of this one, it was not my jam which is fine!
My top 5:1. Gloomhaven
2. Mage Knight Board Game
3. 7th Continent
4. The Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport
5. Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (Mummy's Mask best but all are great)
NICE list!! I gotta try Battle for Greyport. I did the most recent kickstarter so waiting for that!
For all but Mage Knight I play more than one hero when I solo.
Top5. Descent, Gloomhaven, Massive Darkness, Sword & Sorcery, Mage Knight.
NICE! Thanks for sharing Michael!
Great intro defining your criteria. This is very useful.
But I have to call out that awesome shirt! Where did you get That? :-)
HAHAHA I know, I LOVE this shirt! My sister got it for me for Christmas, I think she said it was from Amazon!! :)
Top 5
Mage Knight (By your definiiton of "one of the main factors is combat")
Shadows of Brimstones
Mice and Mystics
D&D Dungeon (1st Edition was the best, Electronic version was also good)
One Deck Dungeon
Nice list!!! Thanks for sharing! :)
Hmm. Not sure that I have played enough dungeon crawlers to make a list.
1: V Commandos
2: Massive Darkness
3: Dungeon Twister (not sure it counts :) )
I've only just recently come to appreciate the dungeon crawling genre so it'll be awhile before I can add more to a list (still a lot of game to explore in the three)
HAHAHA Dungeon Twister nice!! I see you have V-Commandos, what a great game! I didn't include it because I felt it wasn't dungeon crawl-ey enough but still a great game. Thanks for sharing!
My top 5 ... #1 Gloomhaven #2 Zombicide #3 Gloom of Kilforth (not sure if this counts as a dungeon crawl) #4 Mansions of Madness #5 One Deck Dungeon
Nice list! I would say Kilforth would count for a dungeon crawler! Thanks for sharing!
I backed his expansion on kickstarter for Kilforth.... sooo can hardly wait for that to come in....
Me too, so pumped!
For me, have to go with Gloomhaven. But Dungeon Alliance seems very interesting since i dont like dice chucking games.
I think you would enjoy Dungeon Alliance, especially if you like Gloomhaven!
My top 5 solo dungeon crawlers:
1) Gloomhaven (I play it solo, though strictly it is not a solo game)
2) Mansions of Madness
3) Mage Knight
4) Gears of War
5) One Deck Dungeon
Awesome list!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Mage Knight! You might see that in my "adventure" category. . . :)
Here is my list:
1. Folklore the Affliction
2. Fireteam Zero
3. Sword and Sorcery/Galaxy Defenders
4. Perdition's Mouth
5. Shadows of Brimstone
Notable Others: Gloomhaven, Imperial Assault, Myth, Endure the Stars
Folklore at number 1 NICE!!! I am impressed! Why do you like that so much, is it the story?
It's the story and the streamlined battles when it comes to the misc fights. I like how for the road encounters, it's quick and easy to resolve. Then when you reach the main objective, the game becomes tactical. So it's like 2 games in one.
Totally get that!! Thanks for letting me know. I just could not get into that one as well!
Great video!
I think my top 5 would be:
5. The Dungeon of D
4. One Deck Dungeon
3. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game
2. HeroQuest (mostly for nostalgia)
1. Gloomhaven (even though I've hardly scratched the surface of what it has to offer)
Nice List! I will need to check out the Dungeon of D!!
Brent Schleicher warhammer quest is a genius game. Gotnit a few months ago. Totally gutted they never supported the game with expansions and looks like games workshop aren't interested in making any either after taking the licence from FFG. Pure gutted man!
Check these fan-made options out. There's quite a bit there to keep you going. boardgamegeek.com/thread/1558032/fan-unoffical-content-summary-quests-campaigns-her
Colin, I'll bring my copy when we get together and you can take it home and try it out.
Brent Schleicher thanks for that. Will defo give these a bash! 👍😃
Hmm you can check also warhammer quest: silver tower. It has many of s&s advantages but better miniatures and more replayability due to random dungeon 😄
Thanks for the tip! Do I need to assemble minis though?
@@OneStopCoopShop unfortunately yes , they are practically the same as for warhammer age of sigmar. It took me about 3 evenings to do it.. but game is fun so IMHO it's worth it.
Ok cool gotta look it up!!
I MAY have just gotten the game from BGG with the minis already assembled. . SCORE! Can't wait to play it thanks for the suggestion!
My top 5 are Mage Knight, Gloomhaven, 7th continent, Sword & Sorcery, and Zombicide
Awesome list!! You consider 7th Continent a dungeon crawler?
Great list. But Galaxy Defenders is missing and Lost tomb is by far the best crawling experience I had so far. So many great situations are created every Single game. It is Arkham Horror - the dungeon crawler. I cannot wait to get Lost Station to the table. :)
Thank you!! Yeah I have Galaxy Defenders but it has not hit the table yet, alas! I can't wait for Lost Station as well!! Thanks for watching!
One Stop Co-op Shop If you love the AI in Sword & Sorcery you will be blown away how much deeper is Galaxy Defenders according to its tactical choices and how the (same) AI plays out thanks to the hex system.
Oh boy oh boy!! I can't wait!!
Lucas great list man!! And the name of your game sounds COOL!! Thanks for sharing excited to learn more about it!
I unfortunately don't have many game but I love solo and dungeon exploration. For that I will make a listof my current Gamez and my wanted games.
Current:Dungeon roll(it was my first game so it has a special place in my heart)One deck dungeon
WantedShadow of malice(more of an adventure)Dungeon allianceGears of war
I keep my list of wants low and try to play all games about 100 times and keep ones I want to keep and get rid of ones idont
WHOA 100 times nice!! You and I are for sure doing things differently! :) I think my most played game sits at about 45 plays!!! Shadows of Malice I really want to try as well!! Thanks for sharing!
You sound like a totally sane gamer!.. 💕
16:13 Scott Almes will always come to the rescue... Also Galcrest series...
My top 5:
5: Secrets of the Lost Tomb
4: Dead Men Tell No Tales
3: Descent 2nd edition
2: Gloomhaven
1: Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Those are the ones I find most appealing!
Nice list!! I need to get Imperial Assault to the table!
I watched that whole intro getting hyped and you came out with some board games...??I still watched the whole video couldnt stop lol......
HAHAHAHA Sorry if you are not into board games, but thanks for watching!
Great list buddy!
FRANCK!! Thanks man you rock!
Hmm top 5:
5 myth
4 d&d adventure games (castle ravenloft, legend drizzt and wrath of arshadalon are the only ones I’ve played)
3 shadows of brimstone
2 descent
1 sword and sorcery
Nice list, thanks for sharing!! I can't wait to get Myth and Descent to the table!
Cool!! Already did Gloomhaven! Check it out! 😁
One Stop Co-op Shop where would you rate gloomhaven??
Gloomhaven I don't play solo, I LOVE the game (number 2 on my most recent Top 14 Co-op's) but the fact I have to control multiple hands of cards and I can play co-op vs. solo. . . Yeah it was not on my solo list. STILL it is a GREAT game and I love it a lot, just not a solo for me! :)
